I was getting ready to wash the grapes I purchased and noticed quite a few grapes that had fallen off the stem and were at the bottom of the bag. When there aren't many, I usually just toss them. This time, I tossed out the ones that were shriveled or soft and just washed the rest of them to eat. Do you toss loose grapes or eat them?

As long as they are firm I eat them. Then again, I only eat firm grapes on the stem and toss the soft ones even though they are still attached.

Yes. Usually I wash all of the grapes, then put the ones on the stems in a bag in the fridge. I eat the loose ones right away.

Why wouldn't you eat them? Because they usually aren’t as firm, have split and or have soft spots. I hate soft grapes.

The ones that are loose are usually the ones I like the best-- I don't have to work so hard to pull them off the stem. (I haven't noticed that the loose ones are any more likely to be soft, and sometimes the ones still on the stem are SO attached that they tear when I pull them off.) So, yup, I will eat the loose ones.

I admit it, I don’t. I do toss them in the freezer and use them in smoothies, but I can’t eat them fresh. They’re never as crispy as I like if they’ve fallen off the stem.

I’m pretty anal about washing my grapes, so I actually usually pull all of them off the stems as I wash them and then put them in a clean container. I will keep any firm grapes, whether or not they were on the stem.

My method of eating everything, is to eat the *good* ones first - and then eat the rest.

It wouldn’t occur to me not to unless they were obviously withered or bad in some way. A grape’s a grape isn’t it?

I tend to toss the loose ones in a prepackaged bag. If there are a lot of them, I will sort through and keep the really firm ones.

I find there are just as many "bad" ones on the stem as there in the bottom of the bag. There are also just as many "good" ones on the stem as there are in the bottom of the bag. I eat the firm/good ones whether they are on the stem or not. Anything soft and icky, gets tossed no matter where it comes from in the bag.

Whether grapes have fallen off or not, I sort through them. Good fruit gets eaten, bad fruit gets composted. As someone else said, the loose ones tend not to make it as far as the bowl - they go straight into my mouth.
Wasting food because I can't be bothered to sort it is just plain laziness.

As long as they are firm, same for the ones on the stem.

Yes, unless there is a reason not to. Usually they are still good, so why waste them?

I truly don't get it. It seems really just...DUMB to me to not eat a grape just because it fell off the stem. Falling off the stem doesn't make them rotten or unedible. Grapes still ON the stem can be shriveled up and gross looking. Do you eat those, just because they are still on the stem?
Sorry, I just don't get why someone wouldn't eat a grape just because it fell off the stem if it otherwise looks okay.

The shriveled ones are just in the process of becoming raisins. I avoid the overly soft one off the stem since they are more bruised than raisin-y

When I wash grapes I take them off the stem anyway so unless they are obviously gross I eat everything.

I live in a house of picky eaters ... I'm just happy that they even eat grapes at all
