Don’t cross it completely off just yet! The items made with bamboo are so soft and they drape well. Once you get used to it, it is worth it. tyra ‘s blanket will be softer than ours. I’m still waiting for my yarn to arrive and getting a bit anxious about it. Good review. The Scheepjes Stonewashed is not a very soft yarn at all. I love the way it looks and it was fine to crochet with. I'm just not sure this would be the first blanket I'd grab to snuggle with. I can't believe you haven't received your yarn yet! That surprises me. I thought you put in your order before me. Here's hoping it shows up and surprises you today. The colors are stunning. I am so grateful I received the original yarn pack. My yarn came this afternoon. I whipped up the gauge square and it is still 16.5 mm with a 4.0mm hook, so I’ll go down a size, even though I think that the stitches look tight enough with this hook. I also decided to give her 1-chain stitch corner #1, and, as you can see, for me that results in a too-small corner #1. So, I’ll rip this one out and try the smaller hook and go back to my regular even corners.

I'm working away. I've got two irons in the fire right now. My painted daisies wrap. And a new granny afghan. My niece saw my new granny yesterday and the child begged me to finish it and give it to her. She is the only person I know who loves a granny as much as me. Have you guys seen those snowman packages for Christmas? I am thinking of wrapping my kids gifts like that for Christmas and outfitting the snowman with a new hat and scarf combo. So I might get to work on that soon. I saw some color changing yarn on Jimmy Beans website that looks fun. I think my DD would love that. What a cute idea. I may steal that too.

I was able to whip up my tension square in about an hour so at this point, I'm optimistic I may be able to keep up with the Cal. I used a 3.5mm hook and it's about 17.5 cm. A little larger but I'm going to keep with that size. Your square looks great! Just a word of caution - I think that there will be enough yarn in the pack for the colored squares if you go a little larger, because each color only makes a few squares. You may run into trouble with the border yarn (the beige), however. You’ll need extra yarn for each join between squares and then extra yarn for the whole outside border. Before they completely run out of the Scheepjes, I’d see if you could get another skein in the border color if you are going to go larger on your squares. It would really stink to get to the end of the blanket and run out of border yarn.

I kind of like the drape of this. I'm afraid if I do too dense, I won't be happy with the feel of the blanket. I did the 5 chain corner too.

I went ahead and dropped down a hook size and got a square that is 15.5 mm, which is what she wants. I agree that it is more dense than I would prefer. I’m hoping with blocking, it will open up a little and drape a bit more. Like you, I preferred the drape of the slightly larger squares. I will admit that I’m not thrilled with blocking out a blanket. I have no problem blocking garments and shawls, because those get much more gentle use. I have dogs and boys and blankets and throws get a lot of use and I wash them a lot (when compared to washing shawls). This will end up in the washer, and I won’t be blocking it each time I wash it.

I realized last night that the 3.5 mm hook was the smallest I own. So I ordered a 3.25 through prime. Should be here on Monday. I'll see if I can get it a bit smaller. But I'm not sure. I'm not thrilled with the idea of blocking a blanket either. We'll see. It will be an experiment. I actually assume if I give it to MIL that it will be more of a display than an everyday use kind of blanket.

tyra and jeremysgirl, did you guys notice that the first two squares of the CAL start exactly the same as the test square? Tyra, you’ll be an expert at this type of square by the end of the week!

I'm currently swearing over the first square sitting in the doctors office LOL I have to go pick up my son after, then when he goes to bed it's back to it! I somehow added 1 extra stitch to 2 sides of my first go round, so it was 3 dc, 4 dc, 3 dc, and 4 dc. 🤦♀️ I kept going, knowing I would have to rip it out, but just trying to make sense of things. Will start fresh tonight!

I just downloaded the pattern so I can go home and have a go at it. It's Hell Week at work so I am looking forward to unwinding with crochet when I get home. What colors are you using?

I'm working on the Augusta shawl -- a crochet pattern from Manos del Uruguay. Instead of the yarn named in the pattern, I'm using a Scheepjes Whirl in the Dandelion Munchies colorway. The pattern is free: Augusta shawl.

Will start fresh tonight! One of the things I struggled with when I started to crochet was where to stitch into the row before. When crocheting in the round, and you are stitching directly into a stitch, you want to place your hook into the loop to-the-right/just-before the stitch below and not in the loop to the left (if there is one). I think it is easy to get off in the center cluster if you stitch in both sides (it gives you 1 too many stitches in the cluster above). Here is a photo that explains what I am trying to say - I hope! Let me know if this makes sense.
