Of course this has devolved into a stupid ass thread about Hillary. Of course.
Y’all.
Don’t engage her. Just don’t even respond. She will NEVER answer a question directly. She’s probably some kind of messy Q-Anon weirdo who gets her jollies from online shitposting. Just not worth it.
Block, delete, ignore. All of that.

You can’t discuss politics with someone who gets all her talking points from right-wing media. This conversation feels very, very familiar to me, too, and I assure you all, it will just go in circles forever and ever. So don’t waste your breath. The comeback will be, “But Hillary ... ” for the rest of frickin’ time. Hillary and Saul Alinsky. Good lord. ETA hmm, I wonder if this post is going to earn me more years of being accused of trying to silence peas who disagree with me.

She added: "Hopefully we can have a good argument sometime in the future." That says it all really. What would she argue with him about if she agreed with him? When people normally have an argument with someone it's because they have a difference of opinion to the other person. There's not much point in arguing with anyone who has the same opinion or the same view point view point/belief on the topic under discussion.

"Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.
That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.
They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?"

How very unsurprising that our resident Trump troll is unable to differentiate academic study of an individual (Saul Alinsky) from actually making that person one of your chief advisors (Stephen Miller). Her thesis shows what is clearly a reverence for Alinsky and his views. And as First Lady she lent her name, raised funds for, and attended events for Alinksy's foundation, so she did not reject him and his ideas. From her letters to him: "When is that new book [Rules for Radicals] coming out — or has it come and I somehow missed the fulfillment of Revelation? I have just had my one-thousandth conversation about Reveille [for Radicals] and need some new material to throw at people." "She also asked if they could meet the next time he was in California. “I am living in Berkeley and working in Oakland for the summer and would love to see you,” Clinton wrote. “Let me know if there is any chance of our getting together.” She added: "Hopefully we can have a good argument sometime in the future." Response from his secretary: Alinsky's longtime secretary, Georgia Harper, sent Clinton a letter in reply informing her that he was away on a six-week trip to Southeast Asia, but that she had opened the letter anyway. “Since I know his feelings about you I took the liberty of opening your letter because I didn’t want something urgent to wait for two weeks,” Harper wrote in the July 13, 1971, letter. “And I’m glad I did.” “Mr. Alinsky will be in San Francisco, staying at the Hilton Inn at the airport on Monday and Tuesday, July 26 and 27,” Harper added. “I know he would like to have you call him so that if there is a chance in his schedule maybe you can get together.” linkThat shows he was much more than just an "academic study" to her. Also, if you can't refrain from dismissing opposing views as trolls, then you're not discussing honestly. The irony of this post on this thread...of all threads. Lordy.

My god Gia, you just can't help yourself can ya. The point was made that who you associate with determines your values. I pointed out that most didn't have a problem with who Hillary associated with. That was dismissed as merely a thesis written about the man. When I showed that it was more than that, they moved on to dismissing me with personal attacks, since there were no facts to dispute my facts. Do you have anything to add to the actual discussion, other than attempts to dismiss me?

I wanted to find this old thread for a few reasons... 1. One, I want to re-read it and see other peoples' experiences and thoughts. 2. I have been struggling (REALLLLLLY struggling!) with how to deal with my ONE family member who loves Trump...ugh! 3. Annnnd, ending a 20-year friendship over it. I have talked to several people, I have prayed about it, it has just been HARD!!! BUT... OMG....BUT.... my friend, who NEVER used to post political crap on facebook has all of a sudden started posting pure CRAP! First one was a derogatory meme against the Muslim Congresswoman. That was horrible enough....but something today that has made me realize, friendship OVER!!! I do not take ending a very close, fun friendship of 20 years lightly!!! She posted a HORRIFIC meme that compared Bernie to Hitler..... I saw this many hours ago, and I am STILL upset about it. I was so horribly offended, shocked, and SAD that she could post something so unacceptable and HORRIBLE !!!!!! I showed my Dad, and he said it reminds him of something a HATE GROUPwould post, and then he said "has she lost her MIND?" I did a little googling and found out that this disgusting meme was originally posted by some Right-Wing group last year, and that they were told it was in terrible taste (ya think?) and extremely anti-Semetic, and offensive. The group apologized and deleted it. The thing that REALLY broke my heart even more was to read that in addition to all of that, Bernie had FAMILY MEMBERs that were killed in the Holocaust. I never--- EVER----post comments to political crap I see on facebook, but I just HAD to comment on this one. I was so upset while posting, I felt physically sick.

I do not take ending a very close, fun friendship of 20 years lightly!!! Sorry this has happened to your friendship. Fortunately my friend lives out of state so I only see her once or twice a year, so we only talk about other stuff. I sometimes wonder if I should back out of the friendship, it I even should try to be friends. I question some values. Distance does make it easier for now. Another 4 years, probably not. It is so very hard to be so careful what I say, treding on eggshells ! (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))) for you!

My BFF of over 35 years and I agreed to NEVER discuss politics because we had such differing opinions. She liked that psycho in the white house and I... well I despise him. Our very long friendship almost ended after one night of arguing.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. After 2.5 years of NEVER discussing politics between us (since that night of our big argument), she mentioned out of the blue "I just wanted to tell you. I don't like Trump at all anymore. Not at all."
Not that this all matters, because we're Canadians and don't vote in the U.S., but ... well I thought I'd mention it.

I didn't want to dwell on how she'd "finally come to her senses" or anything like that, so I just told her how happy I was to hear that. We made a couple of comments on how awful he is, then changed the subject.

I was so horribly offended, shocked, and SAD that she could post something so unacceptable and HORRIBLE !!!!!! I'm sorry that you have lost what you thought was a good friendship over the years until no that is. Your friend is rather naive or totally brainwashed if she thinks Hitler and Bernie are on the same path. Anyone that has some knowledge of the Nazi party named The National German Socialist Workers' Party thinking that their belief was socialism have very little or no knowledge of what they stood for. Their use of the word Socialist was about the image the party wanted to project and the constituency it aimed to build than it did about the Nazis’ true political goals, which were building a state based on racial superiority and brute-force governance. Hitler thought he could get everyone on his side by using the name but socialism wasn't his aim at all .Nazism naturally falls, purely by its belief of ultra-nationalist, socially conservative, anti-egalitarian and fascist ideology, at the extreme right wing of any politics. Trump is far more akin to Hitler than Bernie will ever be.
