I have decided today that this is my last crochet along. I like the projects but, and I know it's quite irrational, I don't like the pressure. I don't like feeling like I'm behind. I don't like feeling like there is a race going on. I just like doing my own thing on my own terms. And I know that probably sounds ludicrous. But I am a very sensitive person who sucks up all kinds of not welcome energy. And while it may be easy for others to shrug it off, I just can't. I thought I'd be excited to see projects getting done and being done differently than mine. But really the border was released yesterday and there are already finished posts and I find it negative. And yes, I'll admit I'm a bit crazy. Oh no! I’m so sorry! Would you like me to delete my previous picture? I posted it because you asked for it, and I’m more than happy to take it down. I certainly don’t want to add any pressure whatsoever, sincerely. I’ve only kept up because crocheting is my lifeline right now, and crocheting at night and making something is one of the few things keeping me sane right now. I certainly don’t want my progress to be a negative for you in any way, shape or form. Please let me know how I can help. No honestly I love this thread. It has been so fun working alongside you and tyra. Chatting about it. I have really enjoyed that aspect of it. I feel like I *know* you so I'm cheering you on. But the facebook group has just been no fun. Maybe that's the key if I do another again. No group? I don't know. I just really felt today like I'm at work (which I enjoy) and I really feel like I should be home just crocheting away and that I feel pressured to do so. I am one of those weird people who are fine with everyday tasks to do, but I don't like the feeling of projects with deadlines, if that makes sense. Not even at work. I'm lucky in that I don't have a lot of project based work with deadlines.

I felt pressured to keep up and pressured to get it totally correct then life overtook my crocheting and I couldn't keep up even if I wanted and you know what? The sky didn't fall in and I was able to do it in my own time and take advantage of the hints and tips put up by the more experienced, faster crocheters. I think I have 3 CALs that I started a couple of years ago and still haven't finished and I will do so in my own time when I'm ready. I understand that that might be easy for me to say and I probably can shrug it off easily and that it is not easy for you. I'm sorry that what you have been doing has been a downer and I hope you can finish it and take pleasure in all your hard work. I don't make things for other people (unless my DIL coerces me to help her make something for the DGDs) unless I want to as I find the pressure of doing that too much and then I don't enjoy my crafting. I don't think you are crazy at all. If you are then I'll join you on that bench.

I might just need to switch gears completely and spend a day scrapbooking or something to shake it off. But please, you should be proud of your blanket. It's beautiful. I want you to share. Maybe I just need to live in a bubble where only the three of us are working on the project?

I'm lucky in that I don't have a lot of project based work with deadlines. I find I need deadlines in my day to day work or I procrastinate and never get anything done but I agree, crafting deadlines can be too much pressure.

I visited the Ravelry and Facebook groups before the patterns were released and then once again when you mentioned the crazy lady who is making two at the same time and finishes all the squares on the day the pattern is released. I didn’t care for her color choices - LOL! I haven’t been back to the groups since. For me, the CAL really has just been you and me and Tyra. I don’t have enough spare energy right now to invest time and energy in Ravelry and FB groups of people that I don’t know.

It's just been building up for weeks and when I sit there thinking, I should take a sick day to crochet I realize I've crossed the threshold of feeling pressured. My craft is my playtime. I like that to be a break from the chaos of life. I'm glad you get it.

This was brought home to me in one group where it dawned on me that there were maybe 20/30 regular posters who were always there the day the patterns were released, either showing how perfectly they had done (and finished) that particular square or complaining that it had not been written correctly yet there were tens of thousands of people in the actual group who never posted. I think CALs play on our need to join in and seek approval when really we don't need to do that at all. Since that realisation hit me I just dip in and out of CALs, enjoy the patterns and the assistance from the experienced crocheters and do my own timescale.

This has been my very first taste of it. I have enjoyed wholeheartedly the comeraderie Elaine and tyra and I have on this thread. I thought I'd feel that on a bigger scale in the groups. But it just isn't. Which is really weird for me. I am a member of the Scheepjes whirl group on Facebook and I love it. I love looking at what people are creating and I assumed this would be the same. But it isn't.

tyra and elaine (or anyone else that wants to chime in)--I am doing my swatch Heart square. Do you know why she doesn't use this square pattern for the blanket? I like it. I am wondering if there might be one I don't like as well and do the heart pattern instead. Hmmm? Also, this is the first time in 42 years of crocheting that I have used a chart. I think I might like it better than written directions IF I can keep track of where I am on the chart. LOL!

I’m a very visual person and it is much quicker for me to understand the pattern when I can see it and see how each of the stitches lines up with the row/rounds above and below it. I don’t get lost because I can see exactly where I am, even if I put it down and then pick it up again mid-round. Once you get used to charts, you won’t want to go back! I don’t know why she didn’t use the heart square in the blanket - you certainly could use it if you wanted to.

I prefer the charts too. I used the heart square for two and I replaced two of the flowers in week 6. I finished this morning. I've got ends to weave on four left. Then it's off to the wash and blocking.

Yes, elaine , I thought for sure the heart square was being used but it's not. I think I will substitute one for the heart. And flute4peace , I like the pencil idea. Thanks! jeremysgirl, can't wait to see it!

I am considering subbing the heart for it. I don’t need to get hand cramps from something I’m doing as stress relief.

I spent today uploading and organizing pictures to shutterfly from March 2018-September 2019. ALL DAMN DAY! I have to get my kids shutterfly books done for the grandparents christmas presents! 2 kids, 1 book per kid- birthday to birthday. I order 4 books of each kid (3 grands and a set for DH and I) It's the ONLY present I give the grands and they love them (or so they say) I just have to sit and get it done. It's a 2 page (8x11) per month book and I swear each year, about this time, that I will work on it monthly so I just have to order. Yeah. That's not gonna happen. Tomorrow I will be a slave to the computer and get them busted out. Need to order them in 3 weeks.

Tuesday I went to a creative re use class at the library to make a journal. It was okay. Figured out how I didn't like how to make one so many I can figure out a good way for me.
Last night I went to a women's art group at a local gallery. Ended up making 3 collages. 1 I had been stuck on for months. Glad I went. We had free range on what we wanted to make and use, unlike the volunteer group I am in.

I'm just working on crochet projects. A bunch of sweaters. Mostly for me, but one for DH and one for MIL for Christmas presents. Hats too, and some cowls/infinity scarves.
I've been enjoying going to a local crochet meetup every week. One of the women I sit next to does thread crochet and has been working on some fancy doilies for a wedding. Once I'm done with all I'm working on now, I want to buy some thread and a steel small gauge hook and start practicing that style of crochet.
I have a couple of big round labradorite cabochons to solder frames around and make pendants from, and some sewing. I've just been in the mood to crochet lately.

I realiZed this morning that I should have been clearer. I've got all the squares done and blocking right now. I still need to finish. I have a lunch date today and I am hoping by the time I get home they will be completely dry so I can lay them out and start piecing the afghan together.

I finished this afghan for the foot of my bed last night. I needed something solid color as the quilt on the bed is pretty busy. Before I started this, I was worried that I'd get bored, but it was very enjoyable to work. Now I'm ready for those winter nights when my feet need a little extra cover!

I really enjoy finding patterns and choosing my own colors to personalize my projects. I put projects down for weeks or sometimes months at a time, and come back later. For me, there is a very fine line between a hobby and a chore, and a fun project can quickly feel like a chore when there is a deadline.

I photographed my sister’s wedding quilt now that it is ready to gift. The front, which I think is made of 2500 pieces. And the back. I think there’s only around 400 pieces on this side. I tried checking but the notes I made around three years ago when I stated it are much less easy to understand than I thought they’d be. It’s called Unending. Both because it took forever to make and also because I hope their marriage is unending, too.

ashley that is a BEAUTIFUL quilt! I need to make one for my cal king bed and am a bit intimidated. I made one that was 117" square years ago and it took FOREVER without kids. I have 2 kids now, and many other crafts. It will take me an eternity I think.

Finished ONE of the 2 books I need to make. I swear I'll stay updated on this next year. (and then I laughed and laughed and laughed). Actually uploading the pictures is half the battle. If I could do that consistently, like at the end of the month, it would go super fast! Now to start on the second one. Hope to have it done before thanksgiving so I can get the books ordered. Then christmas for the granparents is DONE!
