My partner and I are hosting the parents for Thanksgiving. We are having a very traditional American Thanksgiving meal—turkey, Dressing, au gratin potatoes, green beans, squash casserole, rolls, and pumpkin pie.
One of us wants to add sautéed Brussels sprouts and the other says that’s a little too fancy for a traditional Thanksgiving.
What say the peas?

I think it’s totally normal food. That doesn’t mean everyone likes it, but’s not fancy or gourmet.

I've been having brussel sprouts at thanksgiving most of my life. I thought thanksgiving dinner was fancy. eta: I think brussels are normal food, not fancy food. If I was going to say a dish shouldn't be at thanksgiving I'd say it wasn't special (aka fancy) enough.

Totally normal. Not everyone likes them, but not everyone like squash or sweet potatoes either, but they still show up every Thanksgiving dinner.

It's more usual in our everyday eating than all of the other stuff.

It’s normal everyday food. It is traditional Thanksgiving food in many places, it not so much in my area. This year I’m adding it to offer something more for someone coming to our Thanksgiving for the first time and has some dietary restrictions. Wish me success.

I made them last night as a side dish for pizza. Totally normal food.

It’s normal- except no one in MY family would eat it, but I still consider it normal. Dh’s family would have it.

They just make the house stinky, so I might not serve them because not everyone can stand the smell of potent air fresheners either.

Not normal for me because I hate them. They wouldn’t be on my table at Thanksgiving or any other day for that matter!

They are a normal food but I would never make them as I only make my own favorite dishes lol. If you are joining us and would like to bring them you are welcome to 😉

Brussels sprouts have never been part of any Thanksgiving meal I've been to, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't serve them.

It's not exotic or anything, but we've never served it at Thanksgiving.

Since I think the beloved Green Bean casserole is utterly revolting I like Brussels Sprouts. Spinach salad or Peas & Pearls are also good greens for Thanksgiving

i hate them... however people swear "yah but my mom's...." (i have noticed this comment is usually followed by the word "bacon"....).
don't think it's too "specialty" - if people like it, they will eat and others will pass.
i am a fan of marshmallow salad - which gets a LOT of judgment. if someone is offering to bring something, um, graciously accept.

If they were roasted and added to a quinoa salad or something, then I might agree that it's not traditional Thanksgiving fare, but sauteed... no, it's not too fancy at all and would fit right in.

I think it is trendy food - Not fancy Old stinky Brussels sprouts vs. new Brussels sprouts- gourmet- balsamic, bacon, etc.
like green bean casserole would be old fashioned with the cream of mushroom soup

Normal. But we eat brussels sprouts all the time. I didn't know it could be considered specialty food. On the other hand we eat sushi all the time too
