So you're wed to the idea of an Apple device? There are alternatives, and those with expandable memory are an excellent value when compared to the fixed limits on Apple devices. If Apple is the thing, though, keep looking for refurb. You will probably have to wait until after the holidays for more to hit the supply chain, but if you can wait, there will likely be more choices then. Good luck! I hope you find a great deal. Yes due to the fact that is what I have and what most of her friends seem to have. Primary, considering it due to ease of messaging since that is what her friends/classmates have. That being said, what options would you recommend? I honestly have not looked anywhere else. My husband tried an asus transformer but seemed to be cursing at it a lot more than I did at my iPad.

Check out the Apple site for refurbs. They are basically new and come with a full warranty. Was just there and they only have a 16 gig. Going to go scour through BF ads and hope there is an online deal.

Thank you. She is 12 and was supposed to get my 4s when I uograded but the wifi stopped working. Wouldn't do her a bit of good lol. Her iPod nano headphone jack crapped out on her 1 week after the warranty expired (although as I write this, I am surprised I am staying with Apple). I have a iPhone 6 and iPad 2 and I want something compatible for messaging so she can get ahold of me easily (when there is wifi).
Other uses, messaging/video conferencing for school projects, camera for photos, and music.
I just saw the mini this afternoon and do think that is the way to go. Time to start scouring BF sales and hope one is available for online purchase!

I am starting to look at either an iPod touch or an iPad mini for my daughter for Christmas. Pretty sure we will be going with at least 32 gig and price is an issue.
That being said, I know I can get more with going with a previous generation iPod touch but what does this really mean inregards to longevity of the item? I know it won't be the latest specs but let's say we go with a 5th generation, will it be upgradable for a while still? Can you still get AppleCare if an older generation is a bought new?
Edit to add: 32 gig vs 64 gig on iPod touch.. Is 32 enough for music and photos?

We will see if I can remember how to do this... I am pleased how her costume came together. Unfortunately, it rained this year so the Tardis was swapped with a pillowcase made with Dalek fabric. She must not have ran into any Doctor Who fans since her only comment was "Are you an accountant?" LOL

As a freshman I had the choice of catching the city bus home or walking. It was three miles up a busy street. I choose to walk. I was dropped off in the am, but required to get myself home since both parents worked. Junior high was somewhere around 1.5 miles away which I also walked home.
I would say your sister is being over protective.

Now that I am sitting In front of the computer and LR, I also realize I have my terms wrong. Meaning to discuss editing in not exporting from LR to PS.

Another question... I was able to make the export from LR 5 to CS3. However, because of the difference in versions, it will only export as a tiff. Am I correct in understanding that if I make the jump to CC then I can go back to LR after PS and still be able to edit? I am also making an assumption that because it is exporting as a tiff, any corrections I make in LR will be present in PS. I thought I had read that some adjustments do not show up between different versions, but I am guessing the export there may have been RAW.
Biggest thing I want to be able to manipulate in PS right now is making the backgrounds/floors look more clean (clean up wrinkles, fade out areas). I might be able to do that in LR but have not researched that yet.

I do have the disk for CS3. I normally don't go between, unless I save it and reopen the file, but I wanted to trying exporting.
I am tying to avoid upgrading to creative cloud right now. Once I start making money, I will be in a better position to go that route. Guess I will just try a fresh install and see if I can make it work. Using this time to learn both programs better. I tend to use LR the majority of the time for editing, and barely scratch the surface of what it can do.
Looking again, it is only $10/mo, so if I can't make it work! I might have to go that route.

So I had my first newborn shoot today and have been looking at tutorials on how to edit. Quite a few tutorials start in LR and then export to PS. I went to do that and ran into a problem. I own PS CS3. A couple years ago I tried CC to see how LR was and I ended buying LR since I already owned CS3. When I go to export, it only shows CC, which I no longer subscribe to. I figure I can add CS3 as an additional app, however when I went to programs and am not seeing CS3 listed (possibly since it was an upgrade to CC?) However, I can still access/use CS3 through the link in the start menu.
Is there a way to resolve this (get rid of CC but still retain CS3) with out requiring a fresh install of CS3? I didn't want to just uninstall CC without asking, in case it could cause issues.
Hopefully this makes sense.

To me a mini session is a session in less time. I can then scedule back to back shoots the same location. The client knows they will last 20-30 minutes. They might be just typical family shoots at a particular location (park, beach, etc) or they maybe some something themed (Christmas, Easter, Back to School). A mini session gives less photos than you would get in a regular session .
Did she tell you how many photos your would be receiving? I would think it would be wiser to give different poses.

Can you post a pic of your softball shirt? I'd love to see it! Let's see if this works... The next one I want to do is a silhouette of her pitching over a softball... Was going to use her silhouette from last year but realized her form has change a lot in the past year... So time to look through photos for the right pose.

As for layering, I was more curious in the application. Using the program/machine does not worry me, although I am sure I will forget to mirror at some point! I forgot the HTV does work different than non HTV, so that is probably why I was worried at first. Should be a breeze, with a little practice.

It's easy to use, but I'm not sure how cost effective it would be to mass produce shirts. It's not cheap, and if you mess up (like forget to mirror image!), that material is wasted. Check around at the local printing companies. They do tees all the time for soccer teams and such. A single color tee should be under $10, less if you are ordering a ton. The price will go up with each color added. But we just ordered tees from a local company for the musical, 2 colors. We ordered around 100 and paid about $8 each for them. The company is in Fairfax, Virginia (not sure that matters!) There is like 6-8 kids so not a huge deal. I figure it will give me a chance to learn more as well as practice it. It would be a silhouette of dog/cat in the middle with their club name above and below. Originally design had layered letters so I will probably give that a shot. Will have them pickup their own shirt (making sure that they get a size that fits) and then charge just for materials.

I use a Teflon sheet and have had good luck. I think all I've done are layered designs. I iron over the material to get it hot. Then I adhere the first color for about 8 seconds, then the next color for about 5 seconds, and so on. Then I press the entire design for about 15 seconds. So far, so good. Yes, this is what I do as well. Sometimes HTV shrinks when pressed, so I agree with barely pressing the first layer until you get the following layers on. If you are doing layered lettering, like a shadow, it sometimes looks like it does not fit properly if the first layer is pressed too much. Aside from that is there much of a learning curve with layering letters? My daughter and her friends have a club in which they are raising money for a charity. One of the girls designed a shirt but the company she looked at wanted like $26/shirt. So my daughter says "my mom has this cool machine. Look at the shirt she made me!" Lol. So might be making those too.

It sounds like you did everything right. Usually the HTV will wrinkle if it gets too hot. I have never tried that type of Siser though. I would get a Teflon sheet for future. They are pretty cheap. I got mine from ebay, but Amazon has them too! I think I paid around $6ish on ebay? Teflon sheet: amzn.to/1E4vztbThank you for that link! Just ordered it. I looked this morning and out of habit, I always clicks he prime option. They were all more than I wanted to spend. That price and free shipping is perfect! I am am guessing I did not get enough heat/pressure on that one spot. Will attempt again and also let the girls know I will repair/remake at my cost if it comes apart this season. Itching to make the other softball shirt for my daughter but will be patient till the Teflon sheet comes.

I work with HTV a lot and you need to act like a heat press with your iron. I highly suggest you get a teflon sheet ($6ish) to place over your HTV as that will help the heat to be distributed evenly. You can use parchment, but I think the teflon sheet is better. Also, you need a hard surface underneath your shirt when pressing like a metal cookie sheet or I use a piece of smooth floor tile inside my shirts. You have to use lots of pressure and don't iron back and forth, just firm presses without moving and hold it in one place for about 15 seconds. What kind of HTV are you using? I like Siser Easyweed. I would try again with your daughter's shirt with the parchment and hard, hard presses. HTV was Siser Easyweed. Love it. Ordered another Siser that was not Easyweed (holographic/shimmery) and I was cursing that and gave up. Could not get it to weed no matter what setting I used. Might checked ththecompany to see if I just got a bad piece. I did do my research and used pressure and kept it in place for at least 15 seconds. Checked and redid it again. Not sure if using too much heat can bad? I used a cutting board inside the shirt and parchment paper over the HTV. I should mention the red piece is a layered piece. Only thing it looks like I can really change right now (short of getting a press) is to try the Teflon sheet. I have a list of 3-4 more shirts I want to make!

Thanks for the replies. I will give it another try to tack that section down. I would love to make the shirts for the girls but don't want them to start falling apart.

I have used HTV to make two tshirts for my daughter so far. Have a few girls on her softball team in love with the softball shirt, and want me to make one for them. I asked them to wait a few washes to make sure it holds up. Today my daughter told me the 'red threads of the softball' are loose in one small section. Is this possibly due to not heating it enough? It's been washed a couple times already. Can I just retack it down still?

I flagged high two years In a row and both times convinced the doctors to let me work on it through diet and exercise. I had my third test yesterday and had already told to the doctor yet again that I wanted to work more on it. Turns out the numbers were down to normal! I did not make all the changes I had wanted too, but within the past year I stop drinking a lot of soda and tv he'd my carb intake. Not drastic, but have started having 1/2 sandwich with same amount of meat rather than a full. I had wanted to add in exercise which I am slowly doing now (starting a week ago so should not have affected my numbers).

Maybe then if he is willing to sell it, talk to family members and ask if they would like to have back in family, maybe everyone could chip in??? It would be so cool to have. I'm obsessed with historical artifacts so I'd love to get it, refurbish and use it as a coffee table!! I like that idea of the coffee table. Not even sure about refurbishing it, but with glass over the top so the address could be seen. Although looking at the larger photo, there are areas I might want to have cleaned up, if they aren't from the time period it was mailed. As for family pitching in, that is a possibility. Too many unknowns at this time. I don't want to go into detail yet, but another email tonight showed me I might have someone on my side who is willing to fight for me. Thankfully, most of the responses have been along the lines of "what an amazing story, sorry we can't help". Might have to have my dad drag out our genealogy book from my mom's side to help me prove it too.

Happy you may have tracked your crate down but I can't believe the guy, knowing the history, would not just give it to you. What could it possibly be worth to him? I really hope you find it and I really hope he has a change of heart and lets you have it. I would certainly expect to pay for shipping but why wouldn't he let you have it knowing it has family ties and means something to you. That's what I am having to think about tonight. What is it really worth to me? My family? In the end it is just a crate with an address.. However it's one from the early 1900s. What if he says $500 since he will no longer own it. I honestly never really thought there was a chance it would be located. .

That's interesting. I remember years ago my aunt and my mother in law were taking a cruise down the Mississippi River. While touring one of the plantations, my aunt saw a familiar photo. Turned out that someone from her side of the family had lived on this particular plantation and there was a photo of them. Weird stuff happens. That is really neat. I love finding out things that I did not know about my family. My husband is currently going through boxes of his family that have been packed for over 10 years... Stuff we knew we had, but weren't sure what was in them. Diaries, newspaper articles... A copy of a 'journal' typed by a young-ish girl as her family settled in the west. My daughter is just soaking that up. It helps that the 'girl' is now over 100, still living, and my daughter has grown up seeing her once every year or two. Puts things more in perspective for her.

Paramount Ranch is the film site- as some others mentioned, it's still used for filming and special events. I wonder if there's a chance it's out there in one of the buildings? It's maintained by the Park Service I believe, might be worth looking there. After Jen mentioned it last night, I sent off an email to the NPS. Might look closer at the website and see if I can get in touch with someone just at Paramount Ranch. Even though I clicked through through PRs part of the site, 'contact us' must go back to a main NPS office. Back in the day, this would have been simpler. Knew some of the rangers, knew some of the crew... Not sure what the odds were that I could have walked off the set with it, with permission. I just hope that I get some sort of reply. Even better, if the reply shows me that they are willing to take a look around.

The Dr. Quinn show has a crazy fan following. You might post on some of the fan website message boards because undoubtedly, some of those people bought some of the props. Some of the set still exists as a tourist trap. You may see if you can get in touch with whomever manages that actual area out there too. That's what I am thinking regarding the fan base. I ended up with some of the props, and I know plenty were bought. Set does still stand. Was out there about a year ago to show my daughter. (Side note was neat to see it on an episode of Firefly. The fact the western set is a staple filming location gives me hope they held onto generic background props. We shall see. Good call about calling the manager of the set. Will have to do some research on that and see what I can turn up.
