HA! One more thing I just thought of - I'm gonna use my FAVORITEST of favorite papers and embellishments in this book. No using something up because I feel guilty for having bought it, no trying to make this or that work well enough so I don't waste it. For most of my project albums, its all about the beginning... I try to make the title page or first page first, as for me it sets the tone for how I want the entire album to feel. I just had a thought about what the title page would look like for this book....all that came to me is the title: "My Heart." Next page, I could journal about what the album is and how it is coming about....? ah, whatever. I don't want to do my usual MO and get bogged down in details before I begin. I just want to start. My book will tell me what it wants to look like and be called when it's good and ready.

I love your idea! If I were looking at it, I'd feel like I was getting to know you--what's important, what's cherished. I've thought of doing a "My Favorites" album that's full of things I like--songs, quotes, places, things. miss lizzie, you DEFINITELY should start that album - think of it as a mixed media journal of sorts! That's how I'm imagining my book - part scrapbook, part journal, part autobiography. How fun would it be to work on that. It feels like a mix of 50 different crafts and ideas I've wanted to create, but jumbled together to be MY treasure. PLEASE start that book, for YOU! I love the ideas you have. I just had a thought of sharing pages and ideas together for this project. I'd love to see your ideas on including songs, specifically. there are some that mean SO much to me for not the obvious reasons... there's one song for each of my children that just reminds me of a moment in time with them. One in particular, I can't remember the name off the top of my head....a line in it is something like " don't want to close my eyes, don't want to miss one smile..." that song came out when my middle son was born, and I remember being up with him in the middle of the night for feeding and hearing it on the radio. It was so true....I was flipping exhausted, but I didn't want to close my eyes and miss a smile or sigh.... How would you put something like that together? lyrics from the song....a photo of us together at that age...and journaling. DUH! Sorry, I'm just working it out as I talk!

What a great idea. You should have a little notebook, so you can right down your memories as you think of them. And remember the book doesn't have to be all about pictures either. good luck with your project. I'm sure it will be an emotional one, but after it will be well worth it. Oh, I like the notebook idea....I keep a small one in my purse anyway, and I can just jot ideas down as I remember something I want for my book. And, you are so right about it not being about the pictures...another thing I want to include are snippets of my journaling, life lessons that have meant so much to me, my thoughts on becoming a mother, (22 years ago- holy CRAP) conversations I've had with God, things He's shown me and put on my heart. I want to write the story first, and then, maybe find a picture that could go with that story. I have been obsessed with photography since I was in 4th grade, (HA! another story I want to include!)so I have tons of landscape photos, dusty road photos, just random interesting stuff that I LOVE the image, but have never had a reason to scrap it - "Best day EVER! I got the perfect shot of this 80 year old mailbox I came across at a flea market!!!!" could you imagine? Man, this just keeps getting bigger and better in my mind....I am starting to realize that THIS is what I've really wanted from scrapbooking all along.....and it probably DID need to take this long for it to gel into exactly what I want it to become. I know it will evolve from even here, as well.

I just want to say THANK YOU for sharing this, what an awesome idea! I think the resulting album would be such a meaningful, treasured keepsake for your family. It is so easy to scrap all the cute and fun photos from birthdays and Christmas and vacations and that stuff that it also gets very easy to skip over the deeper thoughts and feelings that you really want your family members to remember and know down the road. Thank you for the timely reminder. My goodness, you're welcome! I'm so glad I finally have something to contribute, lol! You hit the nail on the head....I was starting to feel like scrapping those vacations, while fun for me to DO, weren't really WHY I got into scrapbooking to begin with, ya know? I was feeling like it just doesn't matter- who CARES in 20 years that we dressed up one night on a cruise vacation? I started not liking the photos and almost feeling resentful about how many I "had to scrap" before I could start MY book. The thought even crossed my mind ( for about 4 seconds, but still!) that maybe I should just throw in the towel altogether. My precious MIL was my biggest fan of my scrapbooks and always asked to see what I had done since the last time she was over. She passed away 3 1/2 years ago, in the middle of all the teenage family drama(trauma!) that my oldest child was putting us through, and that's when my love for scrapping just dried up. I have been feeling such guilt that I have YET to really document in any way that I'm happy with, those special memories, and stories of WHO. WE. ARE. Not just what we did. I'm so excited about this on a gazillion different levels! Knowing now that I have a plan, it's put the excitement back into scrapping the other stuff, so it's ALL good.

The one album to save is a great idea! Favorite pages scattered throughout various albums would be hard to save from a fire or whatever.. that's exactly how the album idea came about - one place for my favorite/special pages, instead of having "buried gems" scattered through dozens of albums, that will most likely be tossed or at least dismantled once I'm gone. When my dad passed away, I had all these random photos given to me that I didn't really have a place for yet...so they just sat in a box on my desk. I didn't want to put them away in my regular photo boxes, waiting for it to be their turn to be scrapped, sometime around spring of 2063 or something, LOL! They just sat there for months. When I started going through photos of my son for his graduation, I had a handful of really special photos that I didn't want to just return to his unscrapped life photos box. I ended up putting them in the same box as those special photos of my father, and the idea was born!

So last week I got an email that for some stupid reason I apparently deleted. I don't even remember what site it was from. Anyway, it mentioned offering sneak peaks from what I'm assuming the show that replaced the summer cha that took place this past weekend? Does this sound familiar to anyone? And bigger question, can anyone hook me up with some links or pics of any sneak peaks?
Thanks! Cindy in Texas

I've been feeling really overwhelmed lately and don't like the way I approach scrapping. I started (holy crap!) about 18 years ago, and for the longest time only did chronological albums. There was even a point when I was <gasp!> "caught up." I also did separate albums for vacations or special events ( my Dad's 70th birthday party, for example) But I never got around to telling stories...the ones that my heart remembered. Deeper than "we did this and this on this day, and it was fun!" I just never got around to doing it. Now, two of my three kiddos are out of the house, and all I scrap are pretty much just vacations. No day to day stuff. One album I've always wanted to create, just for me, is one I keep calling " the only album to survive." meaning, of course, if everything else got burned in a house fire, God forbid, what ONE album would I grab to save? I wouldn't want to grab just a random year album, or a specific vacation, or how would I choose which baby book to grab? So, I've always wanted to make this album....of random stories that have always stood out to me, special memories of each child, special relatives, and my favorite for what ever reason photos. And write about them. A book where the photos are second to the stories. A book with things that are important to me, to my family story, that I worry about a photo/story being buried in a chronological album that may never get read or seen once I'm gone. I get so excited when I think about beginning this book! But have I started it? Heck no, because I was always worried about getting caught up, or wanting to finish this project/album or that vacation album first. I had lots of family stuff going on when my oldest was in high school, and my desire to scrapbook ANYTHING pretty much dried up during that time. About a year ago, I thought a great way to get back into it would be to do a project album - so I picked a vacation and got to it. Now, I don't know how to get out of that mode of "all one event, pick a butt load of themed papers, etc." So, I came up with this idea. I have a black, 12x12 storage box from Hobby Lobby that I started putting photos in that I want to tell a story about. Since my Dad passed away last fall, I've been given some of him growing up, and me as a child, that I've put in that box. Some are ones that I came across while looking through photos for my son's graduation party a couple months ago. ( BTW, A couple months ago already!? What is UP with that!!!?). When a thought or memory crosses my mind that means a lot to me, ( this also happened a lot during my Dad's illness and death, I kept a kind of journal during that time) I write it down and throw it in the box. A special bible verse or quote that speaks to me, write it down, throw it in the box. This box is part one of my master plan, stick with me! So, here I am with a collection of random stories, prompts, thoughts, and photos that mean something special to me, all in one place. I don't have to make time to sit down and work out what stories I want to tell, find photos, I just toss it in as I come across it. And I keep it on the shelf above my desk. Second part of my plan is, when I finish a page or series of pages, of whatever it is I'm working on, before putting away all the papers I didn't use, scraps and embellishments that are left, I'll pull a picture out of my " Stories I wanna tell" box and make a page with what's left of the supplies. It already coordinates, so that part is done for me already, and it's just one page that I'm working on, in an album that will be a long work in progress. Key word, PROGRESS. I'm so excited by this idea, I can't tell yall! I remember a great tip I read several years ago, about making a card with the leftovers of a completed page instead of throwing the scraps away. I just kind of expanded on that idea into solving an issue of working on more than one project at a time, which is a challenge for me. I am SO sorry this was such a long explanation, but I've gained so many awesome ideas over the years, I wanted to share this in hopes that it will help someone in a similar situation.

about the glass stove top and oven, I've read somewhere about once it IS clean, rub it down with car wax....the wax will deter future crud from sticking as bad as without it, and it will make clean up easier. You do have to re-wax it occasionally, not sure how often.
As far as getting it clean to begin with, I hate to admit it but I've used that crazy nasty oven off stuff when it was horribly bad....no ideas for a greener way to clean the crud.
Along the same lines of car wax, I've also read a tip to wipe a layer of Rain-X on your shower walls and door once it's clean, and that will keep the water spots and soap scum from sticking.

a movie that was so bad that it turned out to be awesome was several years ago....my kids talked me into taking them to see "The Orphan" I think it was called....supposed to be a scary movie. We were all really nervous, kinda like nobody wanted to back out the dare to watch a scary movie, it's not really our thing anyway, so we were wound pretty tight once it started. It was so stinking bad that we were LAUGHING at a bunch of what was supposed to be so scary! And the climactic scene at the end had us in stitches, it was so predictable. So, the movie sucked, but man, we had a blast.

After the all the anticipation I am sorry to say it is not a must-have for me I feel the same way. It's so stupid, I really love Shimelle's videos and classes, and have even talked to her via email a time or two with questions about a class or something from her blog. I was really pumped about seeing her line! I mentioned in another thread that bright pinks and just about any shade of aqua/turquoise, and oranges are what dominate my stash as it is, so it bummed me out that the papers and stuff aren't anything that is so out of this world different from a bunch of the things I already <hoard> *ahem* COLLECT. It's ridiculous that *I'm* taking it like this - I don't want to hurt her feelings! It is an adorable line, I love it, I just can't justify buying *more* shades of turquoise and pink, and I don't have any gadget that I can use the dies with. that tape dispenser and stamp set though.....yeah, those are on my list for sure.

I've overbought just about everything, but my friend and I still laugh about the night we went nuts and bought enough magic mesh to circle the globe three times. It was the height of the scrapbooking craze and we were attending an all night crop at a huge scrapbooking convention in Dallas. A man who sounded like a cross between a circus barker and a revival preacher got on the microphone and announced "a once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in magic mesh for a $1.00 less than you could find it any other place." He told us to hurry over to his booth, because "at prices like this, I can't afford to leave the offer open for more than 30 minutes." At first we resisted, but when we saw the commotion over at his booth (women pushing and shoving to get to the front of the line), we decided we just couldn't pass up this deal. We made our way to the booth and we each managed to grab about 20 rolls of magic mesh in every color of the rainbow. We were so proud of ourselves for being such good bargain shoppers and we couldn't believe all the money we had saved! My friend ended up doing one layout using magic mesh. I never used any of mine. I tried to sell the magic mesh for 1/2 of what I bought it for, but couldn't find any takers. I then tried to give it away, but no one wanted it. I finally gave it to a high school art teacher who said her students might use it on collages. LOL!!! total hijack, but this reminds me of a story my bachelor brother told me, quite a few years ago. It was when those icicle Christmas house lights first came out. ( I KNOW that "icicle is mis spelled, I can't make it look right! Sorry!) He was in a big box store, and saw several people hanging out near a huge empty bin. He asked what was going on, and someone told him they were expecting a shipment of icicle lights. About that time, the employee comes out with a cart of boxes. My brother had no idea what they were, but he said once he saw the frenzy of these people grabbing at the boxes, he thought, "well, hell, *I* need friggin' icicle lights, too!" So he bought about 4 boxes, not having a CLUE what they were! It was the first Christmas he ever had outdoor holiday decorations.

Brads for me. I just could not resist all the pretty colours and patterns. I have been a lot better with not adding to my stash lately and I have been trying to actually use them. For far too long they have been the one thing I have saved for the perfect layout. My other weakness lately is alpha stickers. Holy Cow, this is so me! I have a stupid amount of brads, mainly from MME, on those cards...they are so stinkin' cute and pretty and EXPENSIVE! about this time last year, I don't know what came over me, but I was on a ridiculous MME kick. Maybe I found a place that had them on sale? Yeah, that's what I'm going with! Anyway, I have like 15 packs from that binge last year...and have yet to bust one open. Granted, my Dad was diagnosed with cancer, and passed away 5 months later, so everything was put on hold. Just in the last month or so have I gotten back into any crafting at all. Thickers? Yeah. Thanks for that, Glitter Girl.

Red. Most of my supply is Christmas-themed. It's what I scrap the most. Carolyn, do you do a December Daily type thing, or full Christmas albums, or, lots of holiday photos in a yearly album? I have so much Christmas stuff, I'd love to see some of your pages!

I'm pretty evenly split between all colors, I shop by event or theme so I pick the colors that will work with the pics I have (or will have) to scrap. Now, if you asked me what THEME I have an unreasonably crazy amount of it would princess. It seems like I simply cannot pass up any cute princess paper I find! I'm not too worried about it though because right now we're up to our eyeballs in "princess-mania" at our house, and that won't be stopping any time soon. With a Disney cruise to scrap now and another Disney trip on the horizon, I'll be glad I have all that paper hoarded, er, stockpiled! um, yeah...that's a whole other thread in itself! Since my kiddos are older now, I don't really do a yearly album anymore like I did when they were younger. I'm trying to get all our vacation photos in albums, we've been blessed and have had some awesome vacations that I want to document before I forget or lose all the little details that made them so wonderful. SO, I have a butt load of travel themed stuff, but of course, not just the exact just right thing for the current page I'm working on, no matter what that page is, ha! Now, for confession time.....last year I got the wild hair to try a December Daily type album, since my middle child was a senior in high school and I knew that Christmas would be "different" after that particular one. So, I went on a Christmas themed buying craze that could easily provide enough materials for like, 4 December Daily albums! Then, the day after Thanksgiving, my youngest son was in an accident and broke his leg in 4 places....my December pretty much was spent at doctor's appointments and physical therapy. He's doing great now, by the way, and I did manage to take several photos of the "season." I actually really still want to document that December, for very different reasons than when the idea first hit me, with all we went through for my youngest son. All that to say, themes? I see your princess collection and raise you an obscene amount of Christmas paper, LOL!

OP, thank you so much for starting such an uplifting thread! There's been so much stress and loss lately, it's good to focus on the good things, no matter how small they may seem.
My so graduated from high school this past June, and he was accepted into a summer program at the University he applied for, so he is now completing his second week of college, and living away from home. He's had some interesting situations arise already with his suite-mates, and it's been such a blessing that he's been calling and talking to us about it, and then hearing how maturely he handled what could have been a pretty serious situation. Two of the guys even THANKED HIM for the wake up call and having their back. I couldn't be prouder of that guy.

This isn't a huge, "cleanse your life" kind of tip, but man, it's really helped me through the years since I came across this idea for cleaning out smaller areas. Think drawers, cabinets, a surface that constantly attracts clutter. I ended up working my way through my entire kitchen, though, and it's really worked for us!
For example, if you are cleaning out the kitchen junk drawer, take it all out, everything. Clean the drawer, add an organizer if you want, whatever. But the trick is to only put back in that drawer what you would love to live there. Only the stuff you know you use or reach for regularly. Then like others have mentioned, deal with the rest...toss, donate, sell, or if you are undecided, box it up and see if you have a need specific enough to go to the garage (or wherever) and dig it out. This system worked WONDERS for me decluttering my kitchen. DH is a gadget whore and I hated having to dig thru a dozen specialy items to get to the stuff I use every day. When I cleaned the kitchen out like this, I designated one cabinet to any gadget his heart desired, and we put the rest in a cabinet in the garage. (Stuff we use, but only when we host thanksgiving, etc, that kind if thing we kept, just not among the daily used stuff).
It's helped immeasurably for us!

so weird that you bring this up because I was having the same thoughts as I was stressing over the details of a page from a vacation two years ago. I think I get caught up a bit TOO much in the creative outlet part....I want to like the way my layouts look, from my current, creative outlet perspective, but as others have mentioned, that's not what makes my family pull albums off the shelf to look through. It's the memories, the stories. Remembering how much it rained the day we snorkeled, but we didn't let it stop us and we had a blast. Not what size the heart die cuts were, LOL. Do you enjoy the process? That's enough reason to do it right there. Why do we go to a movie? It's over in a couple hours. Why go on a vacation? It's over in a few days. It's the memories of the adventure, the special-to-us-only moments, that's why. And that's why we scrapbook. To re-live those special to us moments any time we want. Our hobby is two fold: we get to enjoy actually creating the album in the moment, but it's a lasting thing that we can come back to in years to come and enjoy it all over again.

A few days ago I was asking for help looking for some help in finding red pp. I realized while looking through my stash that even though I have two sons and only one daughter, I have a stupid amount of pink paper! Not much on the baby/pastel side, but most of the lines I'm attracted to have shades of brighter pinks and aqua/turquoise. Bright orange is right behind those two colors. As far as embellishments, it seems to be pretty much the same. I used to LOVE that deep cranberry red, but I never scrapped with it, and when I realized that I bailed on buying even the stuff I liked because I knew I wouldn't use it. These colors are just easier for me to work with. I don't know why. I know I like them, they seem to go well with a majority of my photos even though I haven't done much work with younger pics of my kids in quite a while. I just like the color combo. I think that's why I was a tiny bit underwhelmed with Shimelle's line...it's awesome, love it, but it's not really anything I don't already have and can't justify buying right now. ( I feel like such a TRAITOR even saying that! ) What about you? What are the colors that dominate your stash?

Ugh, it's SO "nay" that it's BECOME "yay!" We used to teach highschool sunday school, and our group came over one night and brought the dvd when it first came out. Oh, hiw I hated that movie....random, no point, and just Flippin' odd. But watching it with a bunch of 14 and 15 year olds that were so into it and loved it made us appreciate the randomness and pointlessness of that movie so much more. We actually still quote it around here, and that was several years ago!
The answer to so many questions at our house is "..'cause my lips hurt REAL BAD!" and "...so yeah, I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious..."
And it'd be real nice if you could pull me into town....LOL!!!!
