I bought my tires at Costco and they will rotate them for free. I have it done about every 6,000 miles. Tires are expensive and I want them to last for as long as possbile.

I've only had two in my life. They were gifts. A boss of mine got a nail fungus from a manicure. Two summers ago the local news had a report about a type of bacteria that a woman got from a pedicure. She had a small cut on her ankle and the infection entered there. It went through her whole body. Yuck.
For those reasons and the fact that I don't want to spend money on something like that, I don't get pedicures. I do them myself.

I have a 2000 Subaru Outback and I love it. Yes, there were a few years of bad head gaskets and I had to have mine replaced about 6 months ago. I also had to have the timing belt replaced about four years ago. I had some type of hose replaced about two years ago and the driver's side window motor replaced about 10 years ago and two or three headlights and a tail light. Honestly, that's about it other than regular stuff (oil, spark plugs, battery). They are also prone to a little rust spot above the driver's side back wheel well but it's not a big deal. I think that's pretty good for a 15 year-old car. My next car will be a Subaru Outback but I'm keeping my old one for as long as possible!
I was getting into my car in the grocery store parking lot and a guy came up to me and asked if I would sell him my car. He wanted a used Outback but in the area I live, they are hard to come by. My brother bought a 2009 used Outback two years ago and loves it too.
I hate driving in snow in anything other than my Outback.
I feel very safe in my Outback. I drive my three girls in it every single day!

@bergdorfblonde your post reminds me so much of a former neighbor of mine. He moved to Orlando after he retired to help his mom. He had planned to move to Arizona after she passed away. Unfortunately, he passed before she did. Every Christmas he would send us a card with a two page, single spaced letter about how much he hated Florida. He hated the bugs, heat, humidity, lack of good medical care and especially the traffic. Also, he was a friendly person but never really made any friends in FL.
On the flip side a good friend of ours moved to Jacksonville and he loves it.
I don't have any opinion because I've never lived there.

My dd is 13 and doesn't have a phone but she does have a tablet that she can use to text her friends. She has three good friends and has an active social life even without a phone. When she gets to the end of 8th grade we will probably get her a smart phone.
I have to say this, I love when her friends call her on our land line. If I answer the phone it gives me a chance to talk to them just for a brief minute. Just to say hi and how's it going. Her one friend calls fairly often even though she has an iphone and can text my daughter. She has the best phone manners! Better than most adults. I also like to talk with parents on the phone (especially if I don't know them very well and my dd wants to do something with their dd) rather than texting. I feel like I have a better connection with them. I don't know if this makes any sense but I just like to hear a person's voice. I feel like I know them better.

My engagement ring is made from platinum. I am allergic to nickle and will develop a rash with nickle. I was really mad when I developed a rash from my platinum engagement ring that we had made at a well know local jeweler.
I ended up calling a precious metals professional organization and spoke with one of their members. He asked if I used anti-bacterial soaps. I said yes and he said the rash was a reaction to that. He told me to clean my ring and to not use anti-bacterial soaps/gels on a regular basis. He was right! My finger is rash and itch free if I don't use anti-bacterial soaps and gels.

Funny you asked this! I am currently in the process of uploading all of my photos from my computer to Google Photos. I was watching CNBC today and they talked about Google Photos and how good it is. It is free and unlimited for standard sized images). I was looking for photo storage so I'm giving this a try. Here is an article regarding image hosting: Five Best Image Hosting Sites

No way is my house company ready ALL the time! We have three kids and a very small house. It doesn't take much to make it cluttered. We don't have a playroom, finished basement, extra bedroom, office etc. There is no space in our house that goes unused. I try to keep the kitchen cleared and clean and the half-bath clean ALL the time but the rest I don't.

I would be upset about both. I would include a talk about how porn can be addicting. It can ruin a person's life if not controlled. A friend of my husband's just lost a really, really good paying job because of his porn addiction. It wasn't child porn or anything odd just normal stuff but he just had to look at it while at work. It's too bad too because he has primary custody of his kids and financially covers everything. He has really gone into a depression about everything. It really surprises me because he is such a nice, kind guy. You would never think he had an addiction problem.

I only crop photos if needed other than that I don't edit. Maybe I should do more editing but I don't have the patience.
Sometimes I think Oh I should edit these photos but then I don't and just place the order. I figure at least I'm still printing them. Most people I know just take photos with their phone and never get them printed.

My mom is 84, lives on her own, drives and has lots of friends and social activities. She goes to the gym about 4 days a week to workout and swim. She just had a major renovation of her kitchen done and she hired the contractor, supervised the work and picked everything out (cabinets, appliances, counters, etc).
Even though she has deep wrinkles on her face, she is still beautiful and I bet your mom is too.

I live in a tiny bungalow ( but a lot of homes here in the UK are small compared to the States!) I have lived here since 1987. I have probably £210,000 equity in the house but to be honest, that wouldn't buy me very much at all around here if I wanted to move. I have 4 bedrooms but they are all on the small side . It's a lovely quiet road and loads of other reasons why I have stayed here so long. I think if I were you I would wait and not go into more mortgage when the children are so close to moving on. Do they really care about having a better house? My kids are actually very attached to this home and wouldn't thank me if I said I was moving us on, even if it was to a bigger better home! All their friends are around here, my youngest is in the school a short walk away and both of my older kids like the fact we are within minutes of a dual carriageway that gets them anywhere quickly. I agree with this. Just the other day my 13 year-old dd said that she never wanted to move to another house. I told her we would have more space in another house and she said she didn't care (we live in 1200 sf, two adults, three kids). We have stayed in our starter house and it has allowed us to pay it off and save money. I don't really understand why some folks move to a bigger house with a bigger mortgage and then have rooms that they never even walk into (except to dust). They are paying for square footage that doesn't even get used.

It's sad that this type of thing has become so common but it has. In the "old days" a kid might get a hold of a Sear catalog and look at the bra section or an older brother's or dad's Playboy. By today's porn standards extremely tame stuff.

My husband has terrible gout and high triglycerides. He went to several MDs and none of them could figure out the right medications for his gout and triglycerides. The doctor that helped him the most retired and left his patients with a DO. The DO is the one who found the right medicine and dosages. My husband liked him so much he actually went to his appointments when he was supposed to. Usually he would just not schedule an appointment. Unfortunately his DO moved to another state.
My general doctor is a DO. I've only been to her once, for a general check-up but I loved her.

Thanks so much to everyone who responded. I greatly appreciate your time. I think I'll ask my daughter if she can cram her toothpaste, brush, floss, wax and mouth rinse in her lunchbox. I'm sure my suggestion to her will fly like a lead balloon. Her lunchbox is packed full most days.
I just have to vent for a minute. To me it's not really fair to punish all the girls by not allowing purses due to a few who abuse the cell phone policy. My daughter doesn't even have one. vent over.

Has anyone cut felt with their Silhouette? Is yes, where did you get the felt and what settings did you use (if you remember)?
Thanks!

Gosh, that makes me wonder what I did in grade school (up through 8th)! We weren't allowed purses, but we also only switched between rooms once per day (the only specials we had were music and art one day a week each). We didn't have lockers, just an open closet all along the back of the room. I know I had a bag in my desk that had pads in it, but I have no idea how I transferred that to my pocket discreetly! Funny the things we don't remember. My daughter's school also does not have lockers, just an open closet in the back of the room. The kids put their coats there and leave them all day in their homeroom while they switch classes. I'm trying to figure out how she will transfer her time of the month stuff as well as her toothbrush, toothpaste, wax and mouth rinse stuff. She has $6,000.00 worth of braces right now and she is fanatical about brushing them after lunch. They are not allowed to take their backpacks to lunch. How do boys handle this (minus the period stuff)?

My dd is in 7th grade and the principal of her school just outlawed purses. He did it because some of the girls were going to the restroom and using their phones. There is a no-phone usage policy during school hours.
I’m curious if other schools have put a ban on purses.
