Well, considering we were married on Halloween and our middle girl was born on Halloween and it's Trick-or-Treat night around here, no we don't celebrate on the actual day. We usually go out to dinner the weekend after our anniversary.
My husband has no excuse to forget our anniversay or my birthday. My birthday is the day after his! We always eat the leftover cake (that I made) from his birthday for mine.

My husband's cousin did time in the same facility that Martha Stewart was in but it was shortly after Martha's release. She got mixed up with drugs. My husband happened to be in the area and he visited with her. He was her one and only visitor. She knit him a hat while locked up and he still wears it occassionally. Thankfully her little stint did her a world of good. She has not done drugs since her release.

I feel your pain! My three girls start with me the minute they see me waiting in the pick-up area (we have to park and stand in a designated area). It continues in the car on the way home and then escalates when we enter the house! Last year it was so bad that I pulled the car over and made them all get out and take a quick time out. They were all talking at the same time and getting angry with each other because they all wanted to talk to me at the same time. I couldn't concentrate on driving with that crazy talk show going on! Well, after about two or three times of pulling over they learned to take turns when speaking.
This post is timely for me because yesterday I took an ibuprofen just before I picked them up from school!

I used to purge because our LSS had garage sales and I would always buy a table. I mostly sold items that were from grab bag/mystery boxes. Since the store has closed, I no longer have an easy way to sell items. I never had a ton of stuff to sell compared to other scrap sellers. My friend and did two garage sales on our own (out of her garage) and the first one was a hit, the second one was a bust.
I love my stuff and even though I have a lot of it, I remember what I have. I love new product but I also mix it in with really old product.

We wouldn't pull our kids out of school for a vacation for several reasons. My 7th grader hates (with a passion) to miss school. My 2nd grader has a hard enough time with schoolwork and I wouldn't burden her with missing school and her tutor and then playing catch up. We knew when we had kids that we made the commitment that they would attend school and we would have to work around their schedule for vacations. It's not that we don't believe in balance or making great memories. We have found that they have plenty of time throughout the year off of school and we use that time for vacations. If it were us and the cruise was too expensive in the summer then we would just do something else. There are lots of other options.

According to the article in Forbes Obama is also targeting Coverdell accounts. I don't think any of these ideas will pass, at least I hope not. Why Obama would even consider making it harder for the middle class to save for college is beyond me.

My confession is that I still miss TwoPeas, especially the daily videos. I saved several videos before they closed and I have watched them several times now. I'm longing for new ones but I know they will never be there. Did you know their YouTube channel is still up? No new videos, but all of the old ones are there. Yeah, I know they still have their YouTube channel up. Thanks though for mentioning it, I appreciate that. There was just something about getting my cup of coffee and watching a new Glitter Girl video each week and seeing the new product "in action" so to speak. I guess I have a long mourning process.

I had theme parties in elementary school, everyone had to dress up and my cake was specially designed. I always had friend parties, to be honest I find it sad when I see people share pics of their kid only having a family party. Don't feel sorry for the kids who only have a family party. It might be the best party for them. My best friend always had family parties and I was always the only child invited. Those parties are the ones I remember the most and have the fondest memories of. I loved her family (still do) and it was so much fun to be with her totally cool aunt. My friend liked her parties too. Her mom always made chicken cordon bleu and served us apple juice in champagne glasses. We were the cat's meow! Her whole family made her the center of attention and she loved it! We have family parties for our girls or have them invite one friend to go tubing. I asked my oldest if she wanted a big party and she said, "nope, not interested." I think the big blow-out parties of today are more for the parents to "out do" the other parties. They get bigger and more expensive. Gah.

Gee. Thanks so much. She is NOT an idiot. She loves animals/pets. When she was a kid, she wanted to bring home every stray animal she saw. Yeah, she made a bad decision. She just left here in tears with her roommate and another good friend. She loves this puppy, and she feels terrible that she made a snap decision to adopt her. She sobbed and sobbed into my shoulder. She brought her friends with her for moral support. They both hugged me when they left and said that they love my daughter's kind heart.
I guess if that makes her an idiot, so be it.
I was pissed when I posted this because I got bullied into taking in this puppy. Yes, I was pissed at my daughter. I do not think she is an idiot.
Your daughter is not an idiot. An idiot would have just dropped the dog off in a close neighborhood and prayed that one the residents who live in the neighborhood would take the dog in. I'm sorry this is a slight highjack but here is a PSA for anyone who has a college kid with a pet. When the school year is over tell them that if they can't move the dog/cat/ferret with them to please take it to a shelter (no-kill one would be great) or to take the time and effort and find it a home. I live near a large university and there are abandoned dogs, cats and ferrets every d@mn summer because some idiot college kid just leaves the poor animal behind. We have the animal warden practically on speed dial. My husband was able to catch the ferret and he gave it to a friend who loves them.

It sucks to not be recognized for the things you do around the house. When I was working I did everything except taking care of the lawn and car maintenance. I always felt belittled in a way and was really starting to feel resentful. The only thing that fixed it for me was that my job started to require some out of town travel. What did him in was the 10 day business trip I had to take. He started to pitch in after that.
Could you talk to him again about how it makes you feel when nobody helps out around the house? Maybe you could also involve the whole family and have the kids help with cooking and clean-up.
Hugs to you. I know the feeling and it's not fun.

I have a friend who ended her 25 year marriage because her then husband was addicted to porn. It had never been a problem until he had 24/7 access to it on the Internet. He was perfect in every other way but she couldn't live with his addiction and he couldn't give it up.
Your feelings of betrayal and humiliation are normal and you shouldn't feel embarrassed about anything. He is the one with the problem. Keep your chin up and put your running shoes on. There is someone better for you!

It is really sad that parents now worry that someone will call the authorities and have state employees and local law enforcement decide if a parent is fit. CPS is good for true child endangerment but this is a little over the top. Six police cars. They really needed that many? What a waste of resources.

If you have several friends that also have scrap supplies maybe you could all get together and have a garage sale. Post it on Cragslist for free and mention that it is a multi-seller garage sale. Whatever is left, donate.

I used to be the grab bag queen! We had two LSS that sold mystery boxes and brown paper bags filled with odds and ends. I would buy one every time they put them out. All was good because the one LSS would hold "garage sales" twice a year and I would always get a table and sell everything I didn't want to keep. Now both LSS are closed. I now have to be much more selective in what I buy as I don't have an easy way to get rid of the things I don't want. I've bought two Webster's Pages but I don't buy them anymore as I have enough and I have some things I know I will never use. I bought Santa Sack #4 from October Afternoon this year. I had skipped last year. I love everything October Afternoon so that was a good purchase.
I told myself to never buy another box/bag of random stuff from different companies. I recently fell off the wagon and bought one from Peachy Cheap. The value was great but unfortunatly more than half of the stuff I won't use and I don't know what to do with it. I'm kicking myself for getting sucked in.
I think if you buy from a company that you love then the box should be ok. The radom boxes of stuff from different companies is what I've learned not to buy anymore. More correctly, re-learned not to buy.

We were waiting for my 6 and 8 year old daughters to get theri picture with Santa when my 12 year old daughter asked me if I wanted her picture with Santa and I laughed and told her that she could be 35 and I'd still want a photo. She flashed me a smile and jumped next to Santa and got her picture taken. Love that girl. She drew the line at the Easter Bunny. No way for the bunny.

I wouldn't let my daughter wear it to school (although I see the humor). Reason #549 for liking school uniforms; no wondering if something is appropriate for school.

I would try to find private tutors. My daughter who is not as old as your son (she is in 2nd grade) has excelled in reading and I attribute it to her Orton Gillingham tutor. It is an approach to reading that is used with kids who are dyslexic although it can certainly be used for kids who are not. She has improved so much! She went from hating to read to loving it and from feeling stupid to feeling smart. As her reading improved (she doesn't hesitate on words as much) her reading comprehension improved. The more smoothly she reads the better her comprehension. I hope that makes sense. Her tutor has also helped her a little with math but I think that by 5th grade she will probably need a specialized math tutor. Google Orton Gillingham tutors and your city name.
Also, if you have a local university, they might have a summer reading camp. Google "summer reading camps" for your city or call the education department of the university. My daughter went to one that was two weeks and she loved it! She also participated in a summer reading "contest" at the library.
I don't have any advice on repeating 5th grade. I guess I would consult with his teacher and have him tested.
You are a good mama!

As others have said, I would sign her up for a babysitting class. My daughter took one at our Children's Hospital and the course was taught by nurses.
I think you would be ok leaving them for an hour or so and see how she does. Maybe ease her (and the other kids) into longer periods of time as she matures.

My dad was not a nutter but he believed in gold and he never believed the inflation numbers released by the government. He was a smart man (rocket scientist - aerospace engineer) and he always had a love for economics and investing. Outside of work all he did was play bridge and invest (stocks. bonds, options, precious metals, trusts that paid royalties). Now, he never would have advised cashing out a retirement account to buy gold but he strongly felt that physical gold and other precious metals should be a part of a total investment portfolio. He never placed much trust in the government's handling of the economy or the numbers released. I just wanted to add that he never stockpiled food or water or those types of things. Sorry if I got a little off topic.

I love blood oranges! My Kroger does not carry them so I have to go to another grocery store (one which I really don't like) and buy them there. If you have never had one, you should try them.

My Target's dollar spot had nothing scrap related. The closest thing was a pack of AC straws. I'm hoping that there are boxes and boxes of stuff that still needs to be put out.
