I haven’t even bothered to go to Costco since this all started because of the reports about craziness. One of my colleagues went for dog food and reported that you had to stand in a line to get into the aisle to even access the dog food. I have six kids, so I miss those big Costco packages, but I am just going to make do with smaller bags of Goldfish instead. Same here. We were at Costco for our usual trip at the beginning of the virus. We forgot coffee so dh went back that next Monday and it was right at the beginning of the stockpiling. He got coffee and an extra bag of dog food. No other extras for us, just didn’t want to stand in line or run out of dog food! I bought three extra bags of dog food. Our german shepherd whines for food constantly. It wasn't worth taking the chance of the stores being low on her dog food. The possibility of having to ration her food and her whining non stop made it worth it!

I have to get a huge amount of paper towel. We normally don't use paper towel or napkins. I prefer linen napkins and hand towels, but DH'S oncologist said it would be a good idea to wash hands and use a paper towel, and then throw it out. Makes sense since his tolerance is below 0 now. (I thought I was doing well using thicker white washcloths in the bathrooms and throwing them in the wash after a day. Not good enough now for us all so we have new rules. Our Publix store had limits on bottled water, soap items, etc! And the shelves were bare. One of the cashiers I know told me that they might cut back on their hours (the workers). Most people are getting items delivered and not going out. Just a tip, you can buy the tri fold paper towels by the case on amazon. They cost about 30.00 and they last forever. I bought a box last year and they lasted six months. They are in stock.

I went to BJs after work. The had plenty of paper towels and TP. Didn’t have my dog food....but I don’t need any. No rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer. But I did find plenty of hand sanitizer at the packy (liquor store) over the weekend. Who would have thought?!

I went to Sam's Club this afternoon. All out of Clorox wipes as well as their brand. All out of TP. All out of the dried beans and the basic rice. Still plenty of Jasmine and Basmati though... Out of hand sanitizer, but plenty of hand soap, with a limit of 2 per customer.

I'm going to attempt Costco today. I don't need toilet paper, sanitizer, or Clorox. It may just be a drive-by though if it looks insane. I figured I'd try since I have nothing all day after the gym and it's voting day so maybe there won't be as many shoppers. It's a no go none of my list is necessary today or has to be from Costco - just cheaper than other places (vitamins, deodorant, butter, cheese).

We still haven't been able to buy hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes. The stores only get a certain amount in stock with their shipments, and even with purchasing limits, customers snap it all up as soon as it goes out. DH's employer has been letting him refill his little travel hand sanitizer bottle from the communal stand dispenser in the lobby because he's on a biologic drug for Rheumatoid Arthritis. So he can use it after pumping gas and when he gets into the car after running an errand.
Soap wasn't a problem, I had plenty of hand soap already and was able to buy a large refill bottle to make sure we don't run out.
As far as disinfecting cleanser, I had recently bought a large jug of hospital grade disinfectant concentrate. It will kill H1N1, Influenza, and also a bunch of nasty veterinary viruses. So it ought to be fine for this.
I keep hoping that stores will restock faster and the buying frenzy will slow down, and we can get some wipes and other supplies. But it's just not happening. For all the people in my area poo-poohing it as "it's just the flu", they sure are panic hoarding.

For all the people in my area poo-poohing it as "it's just the flu", they sure are panic hoarding. That’s been my thought as well. Everyone is saying it’s just a mild flu but everything is wiped and and gets wiped out within an hour of restocking even with limits. I don’t want to panic but everyone ignoring the facts and what has happened in other countries isn’t going to make this go away You don’t build extra hospitals just for the fun if it. You don’t shut down huge portions of your population for a mild cold. This is new and we need to get ahead of it so hospitals aren't overwhelmed. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. Be informed. It’s frustrating when our news is sanitized and warnings removed. Lack of testing is keeping our numbers low and giving a false sense of security. I’m really hoping that it doesn’t get as bad here but it certainly has the potential to get bad really bad. With the lack of trying to contain it it could be worse here than in other places. I hope I’m wrong though.

I was shocked at the pallet that was almost out of Spam at our Costco. There were a lot of things that were low. When I went on Tuesday they were out of the Kirkland water till 3 pm (according to the signs), but they still had plenty of the expensive stuff - Fiji, Smart Water, etc. I needed to get a thing of TP, because we are a family of 6 and go through it quickly. I almost felt guilty, but I only bought 1. There was also a line of about 200 people when I got there, 10 minutes before they opened. Probably my sister that bought out the Spam. Just kidding... but it is a running joke in our family. We all eat Spam (not a ton, but mom used to make fried rice using spam.. it is so yummy) anyways, my sister is always joking because she lives in Florida and during hurricane season she is posting on FB, she needs to make her Spam run because damn-it, if she is going to be stuck she is going to have her Spam.. so now we all joke about hoarding Spam. Her high flatulent friends make total fun of her.. (in a nice way) Currently I have one can. hahaha

So I finally went to Costco this morning. Arrived 10 minutes before official opening time, as usual. There were noticeably more cars and people there than usual, but it wasn’t mobbed ... just some busier. Someone stole my usual preferred parking place just as I arrived but I was able to get one nearby. I studiously avoided the back corner of the store, where the paper towels and TP and wipes are kept (I could have used some paper towels, but I wasn’t desperate enough to get into that mess) but did see people in that area aimlessly milling about, muttering, “Where are the paper towels?” okay, I should stop laughing now. They seemed well-stocked in everything I was buying but I imagine they’re out of everything people are really desperate for. My hoarding tendencies are standing me in good stead during this crisis. The line to check out was a little longer than usual for that hour. But the check-out people were super fast and moving people right along. On a more serious note, I sure hope this epidemic doesn’t get as bad as I fear it will.

I was in Costco last week but stupidly forgot to buy a corned beef. Since I'm married to an Irishman this is a necessity at this time of year. Also this morning I realized I'd just opened the last can of coffee! The thought of running out of coffee is.... So I left for Costco at 9:30, store opens at 10:00. I pulled into the parking lot at 9:45, got my preferred parking spot (near the exit), and read my book until I saw the doors opened. I went in... and discovered a scene from one of those Black Friday Walmart videos! omg... One pallet of Kirkland brand wipes, and one pallet of a 3-pack of disinfectant spray. My dh and ds are going to PA this weekend and staying in a hotel so I decided to grab one of the packs of spray so they can take it to the hotel. I left my cart on the side and slithered into the crowd and snagged one pack. lol. There was an employee there who was stopping people from taking four or five packs of each, and people were arguing with him! The fact that he was standing *right* under the BIG sign that said "limit 2" didn't seem to stop them. wow. Then I got my corned beef, my coffee, one impulse purchase of cheese, and was checked out and heading back to my car by 10:20. And in that short time the parking lot had filled up completely, people were driving around looking for a parking spot like vultures, and the line to get into the lot was down the block to the next corner. Oh, and I saw one woman at the checkout who had at least 15 bottles of wine in her cart... clearly she has her priorities straight! And while I was getting my corned beef and coffee (and cheese) someone asked me where I'd found the disinfectant spray. I just said "back near the front door" rather than say "sorry but I think you're probably out of luck". wow. We have had several cases of the coronavirus now in my town...it was inevitable since it's in DC, Maryland, and two counties next door to us, so we're basically surrounded. But wow, people turned into crazed hoarders.

Boise's Costco seemed pretty normal this morning. As I walked in I noticed every single person had TP in their cart so I decided I'd get a pack since I was there. I don't necessarily need it right now but it's rare that I go to Costco without buying a pack. They actually have a security person standing at the TP to make sure no one takes more than 2 packs. There was plenty of bottled water and paper towels. I passed on both as I rarely buy bottled water (we fill Thermoflasks at home) and I recently bought a pack of paper towels. I noticed they were out of Clorox and Kirkland cleaning wipes. I recently bought those and don't need right now plus I also have 409 and Clorox spray and paper towels. The only thing on my list I didn't find were the Lilly B's rice/bean/cheese burritos which are hit and miss anyway. I hope to not go back to Costco until this illness has simmered down. I was dealing Purell wipes at the Y this morning. I'm a germaphobe and regularly buy 100-count boxes of Purell individual wipes and have them stashed everywhere. I have a full box and two Y friends are traveling next week so I gave them have my stash. I also found 7 travel packs of Purell yesterday that I gave them. I'm not traveling so they need them more than me right now. I'm sure they'll buy me a box when they'are available at the usual price again. I still have plenty since I prefer to wash with soap and water, but when I touch the gas pump or something else skeevy I like to use a wipe to get me by until I'm able to wash with soap.

We are low on TP so decided to hit Costco last night (I prefer their Kirkland brand, it's still full size) and they were completely out of all TP. We decided to go to the Walmart that is right next door and had to settle for the stubby rolls of Angel Soft. That, Scott and Walmart brand were all that they had. And very little of those. I don't know why everyone is hoarding, but since it seems like it's going to be hard to find, I can see myself getting a little anxious about having enough!

I really should make a Costco run for dog food and cat food; unfortunately the pet supplies are back in the same general vicinity of the store as the cleaning supplies and paper goods, darn it. ETA: I will say, I personally am GLAD they're not giving out samples-- I hate having to negotiate the carts of people aimlessly milling around in the aisles waiting for the toaster ovens to get hot!

We just had our first “presumptive positive” in my county today.
I had already planned on a Costco run in the morning, now I’m a little concerned. Good news is I don’t need TP, water, or cleaning supplies.
Mostly I’m just going for flavored waters that my teenagers drink, some snacks, and whatever else I see on the way to those things. No need to go to the back of the store!

I went on Amazon to order dog food and ended up with massive amount of paper towels being sent also. I have a kiddo moving into a new house at the end of the month and thought I'd share.
When my oldest bought a house 18 months ago, everyone brought him paper goods. My youngest also moved in with him and they were gifted so many rolls of toilet paper and paper towels that they haven't had to buy either in the last 18 months. Now they are about out. Ha. Figures.

We bought TP at Costco last week, week before? Not a problem. Glad we got it. DH laughed at me for buying it. Now he’s glad. Ours is completely out.
I’m pissed because I need flour and Costco has none. We’re down to like 5 cups. Pizza dough takes 4 cups. Not good.

The disinfectant wipes are a convenience thing for me, TBH. Usually we use homemade vinegar based citrus cleaner on counters and surfaces with cloths. But that won't work for this virus. I have a jug of hospital grade disinfectant concentrate that's still mostly full I had bought recently. So I mixed up a big spray bottle of it, and won't run out of the concentrate anytime in the near future. We still haven't been able to buy hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes. Simple Green D Pro 5. It has to be the D Pro 5 type for this virus. And you have to use the same instructions as for Norovirus. Not just spray and wipe, spray sit and wipe. The label says how long. Sam's Club carried it, that's where I had bought mine, but I'm sure they're sold out now. I saw it online though when I searched just now. I had bought it to clean an animal cage I leant out to house a litter of sick feral kittens in, and saw it on a list of cleansers known to kill viruses similar to Covid 19. And checked the manufacturer's website and yes, it is effective against similar viruses and is being marketed for use against it now. The disinfectant wipes are a convenience thing for me, TBH.
