The movie CODA is getting some buzz as we get into award season. I finally watched it yesterday and can’t recommend it highly enough. So sweet and touching. REALLY good!! It is on Apple+. I watched it for the 4th time last night. I finally convinced my husband to watch and I heard him sniffling at the end. I just love this movie. Sniffing was an understatement for me, lol. I cried through the whole second half, and by the end it was almost ugly crying. It’s just so good!

We recently watched The Unforgivable on Netflix starring Sandra Bullock. It was excellent. Very gritty and tense. She deserves an academy award nomination. I sobbed at the end - I thought it was much better than the UK series it was based on, I knew I’d seen that story before! I couldn’t think why. I did wonder if it had been a Vera storyline.

Stay Close series on Netflix was really good based on a story by Harlan Coben. Set in the UK, it’s a thriller/murder plot with James Nesbit. Four Lives series on BBC. Based on a true story, the police refuse to take the murder of a young gay man seriously. The Tourist series on BBC. Staring Jamie Dornan, set in Australia. He wakes up with amnesia after a car crash and tries to discover who he is. Silent Hours film on Netflix. Lots of sex and quite gruesome but a great plot. Dervla Kirwen plays the detective. The Gentleman film on Netflix. Guy Richie, great plot, lots of swearing. Hugh Grant as you’ve never seen him before. I enjoyed watching all of these. Guess who’s not had much of a social life recently!

We finished 2 shows this week:
Poldark on Prime Video. Both of us loved this series. Loved it! I'm going to miss the characters especially Ross, Demelza, Dwight and Caroline. There were a few storylines that I didn't love but overall it was a great series.
Stay Close on Netflix. Another limited series by Harlan Coben. This one was based on his book by the same name which we both read but couldn't remember. I guess this is partly because the book takes place in the US and the movie is in England. Lots of twists and turns.
I just finished Dexter: New Blood. I was satisfied with the ending.

I felt that that final season kind of bored me, but I still enjoyed it because of the characters. You would likely also enjoy The Durrells in Corfu (PBS). Based on a book series.

It was one of my least favorite seasons. It wasn't because I was bored but rather I didn't like Ned and his storyline. The scenes with Dwight, Caroline (and Horace!) were always among my favorites. Every time Tess was on the screen, I wanted to throw my remote at the TV!! We'll have to check The Durrells in Corfu. We were happy to find All Creatures Great and Small back this week on PBS.

I'm sure it's been mentioned numerous times but I finally finished the newest season of Succession and it was so so so good!
Currently watching Stay Close on Netflix which is kind of mindless but a decent thriller.

Anyone watching/watched Dickensian on Prime?
On ep 4 and liking it so far.
I really like Stephen Rea.
It's a lot of the Dickens characters all in one story: a whodunit on who murdered Jacob Marley.

I'm more than half way thru the second season of Cheer on Netflix. I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and my dd competed in all star cheer so I appreciated the athleticism that was showcased. But I have to say, this season is depressing. First there's a whole episode on Jerry And kudos to the boys who spoke up and to Netflix for giving them the platform. And the mom is so well articulated and I admire her for continuing to find the right channels to report it even when doors seem to be shutting on her. Beyond that, the mental toll being played out of Covid and how it affected this group is just sad. I see relationships splintering/ending, disconnect, loss of interest and passion, young adults who have had to adapt to the changing of plans, etc... It really is a microcosm of society and it's hard to watch. I'll continue watching, but I think this shows that the ripple effects of this pandemic are both far reaching and long lasting and we will continue to try to make sense of it.

Dh loved it from the first but it took me awhile. The mother had no control over her children at all but after awhile I just went with it and enjoyed the characters and of course the beautiful scenery.

I’m watching Maid, on Netflix and it’s very good. (And also sad,) It’s about a single young mother who leaves an abusive husband - and all the challenges she faces in doing so. I recognize a few things from when I left my ex and was a single mom, though I was fortunate enough to have a teaching job at the time.

I am super late to this one, but I am watching The Leftovers on HBO. Same director/writer who did Lost. It’s pretty good! And Justin Thereaux is HOT! He definitely needs to be in more things.

Thanks you! Season 3 looks familiar, but I didn’t think I had watched it since 2020. All the shows ran together in lockdown I guess.

After Life - can’t recommend it enough. It starts out a tad bit on the down, dark side. But, RG makes it enjoyably watchable. If you like him, do yourself a favor and watch this genius written series on Netflix.

Thanks for the recommendation, I think I'll start it soon.

DD and I just watched Stay Close, mystery miniseries based on a book by Harlan Coben, on Netflix yesterday. She was home for the weekend and t was freezing cold and ugly outside so we binged on all 8 episodes. We were totally sucked in and couldnt stop watching. We had to see how it ended. We both would highly recommend

Not Vera, but Sally Wainright writes so many of these great series. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unforgiven_(TV_series)

We like to savor our shows so rarely do more than one episodes a night! Same for us. I tell DH it's a sure sign we are old. This weekend I watched Found on Netflix and enjoyed it. Story of three girls adopted from China who are now searching for their birth families and using a genealogy search firm in China. While they haven't found their families, they did discover each other through DNA tests that showed they were cousins. Interesting story.
