Finally got to stream the new ELVIS movie. I’m not a big fan, but my DH and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, along with all the music. Long movie, over 2 1/2 hours, but never bored me; held my interest the entire time. is it still in the rental phase or is it free through prime? It’s free on HBO Max now.

We just finished watching The Woman in the House across the Street from the Girl in the Window - 8 episodes on Netflix. I thought it was going to be a spoof of sorts, due to the name [all those books] and the fact that the lead was played by Kristen Bell, as I think of her more as a comedic actress - but it was actually quite serious and disturbing, to say the least. It's totally a dark comedy / parody!! I hated this show with a passion. Sent a tweet to Kristen Bell about how cruel it was to play a role in which she body slams a child. I will be suspect of anything she does in the future after she chose to lend her fame to this mess. But...... it's a dark comedy. Would it have made a difference to your opinion of it if you knew it was a parody / dark comedy before watching?

And there was nothing loving or fun about this at all particularly the last episode. If I had known about the violence involving a child I would not have watched.

The Patient on Hulu with Steve Carell is very good! I highly recommend! (Not a comedy.)
I watched a movie on Netflix this weekend, Human Capital, with Liev Schrieber, Marisa Tomei, Peter Sarsgaard, and Maya Hawke - really liked it!

I never participate in this thread but I've watched a lot of stuff recently as my husband and I try to spend more quality time together. Firstly, thanks to this thread I binged (alone) Uncoupled and loved it! I've always been a NPH fan. I did the exact same thing with - Uncoupled. Binged it in one sitting. Couldn’t stop watching. Loved it !

So far, on this rainy Saturday, 2 movies; one good, one bad.
THE MUNSTERS (‘22 Netflix) - 2 STARS If you liked The Munster series from many years ago, this was nothing like that. The only thing I liked were the costumes. My DH thought it was a comedy spoof and enjoyed it. Me - not so much.
THE GREATEST BEER RUN EVER (‘22 Apple) - 4 STARS A true story w/Zac Efron, Russell Crowe & Bill Murray. A friend’s trip to Vietnam on a beer run enlightens him to the horrors of war. Well done. I could watch Zac Efron all day !

I watched a movie on Netflix this weekend, Human Capital, with Liev Schrieber, Marisa Tomei, Peter Sarsgaard, and Maya Hawke - really liked it! I'm thoroughly enjoying The Patient on Hulu. Steve Carrell and Dominhall Gleason play so well off of eachother. It's very dark and not at all a goofy Michael Scott show. It's very well acted and I love edge of your seat stuff.
Dh and I are watching season 2 of Only Murders in the Building. Really enjoyable show. If you like to read and have never read his novellas, Steve Martin is quite a prolific writer. His books aren't wild and crazy. They are serious, thoughtful and a bit philosophical. Very fast, easy reads, too. Shopgirl is one of his Novellas and the movie w/Steve Martin and Clare Danes is quite entertaining.

Last night I decided to check on Netflix to see if anything new (and good) was showing and lo and behold "The Empress" was on-it's a mini-series in German (with subtitles) about Sisi-the Duchess of Bavaria who marries Franz Joseph the young and handsome Emperor of Austria. It's only 6 episodes and I watched 3 last night. I loved it!
It was so nice hearing German again (it's my mother tongue, spoke only German until we moved to the USA when I was 6 and then had to learn English). Because of the teachers back then 1966 my parents were told not to speak German at home so I forgot German. I understood about 1/2 of it last night, but when I go back to Germany and am immersed in it, the language comes back to me and within 2 weeks I can speak it again-not well, but okay. It's really odd but to German people German doesn't sound all guttural and horrible. To me it sounds lovely and flowing. And reminds me of my childhood.
Anyway, so far I'm really enjoying this series. I'm a sucker for historical period drama.

I had the sub titles on but the translation isn't exact so I ended up turning them off. Loving it. The Archduchess Sophie's clothes are just AMAZING!!

While recovering from Covid in Italy, I discovered we have English speaking Netflix on the TV. I watched the old Michael Douglas psychological thriller, The Game, this morning. Saw it decades ago and loved it. It doesn't disappoint, you just have to suspend belief and go with it!

Dh and I watched the first two episodes of Extraordinary Attorney Woo on Netflix and loved it. Korean with English subtitles. About an attorney on the autism spectrum. The actress who plays Woo is excellent. We also loved seeing how different the corporate culture is from the one's we are used to. Going to binge some more later.

The subtitles read, "Go to hell" but what he actually said was, "Lick my ass.

Started on Netflix this past week…………
MR. HARRIGAN’S PHONE 3 STARS
With Jaeden Martell as a young boy who communicates with his deceased neighbor who recently passed. Has the slow eeriness of stephen king who wrote this short story. Some touching parts with the two becoming friends. Definitely a “King” ending.

Two good movies from this past weekend.
THE INFERNAL MACHINE (‘22 Paramount+) - 4 Stars w/Guy Pearce. Controversial author whose book inspired a mass shooting, is harassed by a “fan”.
LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE (‘22 Netflix) - 4 Stars TRIGGER WARNINGS: Rapes, bullying and school bombing/shooting. Main plot of the story is a rape and the aftermath for one girl; lots of flashbacks. This movie is definitely not for everyone BUT the ending is for everyone!

The third and final season of The Derry Girls dropped on Netflix yesterday! It was more enjoyable than I even remembered. When I pick Netflix back up, I want to watch this. The first two seasons were so funny. The actors also were on one of the British Baking Show Holiday shows a couple of years back. And speaking of Netflix, they have announced they will offer an ad supported option for $7 per month starting November 3.

I like no commercials but I watch a lot of free streaming or Hulu with ads snd it’s not bad.

My German is not fluent, but some of the actors speak so clearly, I understand them well and I also noticed the translation was off. It made me wish my German was better so I could only listen. Still - love this show! There was a show just prior to the pandemic. It was about people getting on an airplane and then the world collapsing. The airplane could only land at night because as soon as the sun came out everyone would die, I think? Then there were some bad people on board (of course!). It was a great miniseries and was supposed to have another season. It was half in French and half in English, but the French translation was so unbelievably bad, we had to turn off the CC. Does anyone remember the name of that series?

Right now we have plenty to watch so it may be Thanksgiving or Christmas before I resume.

I just started watching The Watcher on Netflix. It's got a great ensemble cast and the lead actor is my boyfriend Bobby Canavale. Lots of talent in this. I've only watched episode 1 but I enjoyed it. Also has Naomi Watts, Sissy Spacek, several others.
Based on a true story about a couple who buys a house in NJ and finds they have creepy neighbors. Strongly reminds me of when I moved into the new house built in an already established neighborhood in PA. (Lol My neighbors weren't exactly creepy like that, but they did watch me a lot and comment on whatever I'd been doing, at all hours of the night)
I'm fact I'm not at all sure these people weren't actually in PA and didn't realize it. PA is full of weirdos. My husband and I laughed so hard.
