Daniel Dale...
”Rather than the usual barrage of specific false claims, this briefing has featured a dishonest overall narrative -- a Trump effort to cast himself as the leader who stood strong against the faction that downplayed the severity of the virus.”

Daniel Dale... ”The surge is coming, and it's coming pretty strong," Trump says, so they're "holding back" 10,000 ventilators.” So let me get this straight. Hospitals are desperate to get ventilators to keep people alive and the trump administration thinks it’s a good idea to hold them back? Translation: We can’t concern ourselves with the 10,000 people that could die now without the ventilators, we have to worry about the 10,000 that might die in the future without the ventilators. He’s saving them for the red states. Currently it’s blue states begging for help.

To say nothing of the fact that the POTUS should be more than capable of keeping more than one ball in the air at a time. And even if he didn’t have time, or was too distracted, he should have appointed a (capable, experienced) task force to handle it and be brought in on the big decisions. Or, you know, not dismantle the previous one in the first place.

Why does he always have to say we’re doing a better job then the other guy? Why can’t he just say what we are or are not doing and leave it at that. He wants bigger, better. He has it: more cases, more deaths, much bigger numbers ALL HIS to live with. He KNEW! He allowed Americans to DIE!FAmily, friends and red states will be hit!

No such thing as ‘prove’ anymore I mean Ukraine evidence was reasonably clear and yet... He will just deny it, call it fake news, make himself the victim and all his brainwashed followers will believe him He ought to be on his knees praying he didn’t endanger all his voters by telling them it was no big deal and they should go to church.

Nobody who supports Trump wants to “politicize” the fact he LIED and said it was contained, one case from China, 15 going down to next to zero, just going to go away like magic, and now all the sudden we’re acknowledging the hundreds of thousands or millions of deaths the experts were worried about for months. But how dare we politicize gross negligence. Because MAGA.

Complete and utter chaos at the highest level. They called Thailand last week to ask for supplies, and the Thai representative was confused because WE HAD SENT A SHIPMENT TO THEM and they were waiting for delivery! The right hand is not only ignorant of what the left hand is doing, it’s trying to tie the left hand behind its back! apple.news/AFyWZ8SJAQaKtMykhVvtYIg

Yamiche Alcindor...
”Pres Trump essentially said he downplayed coronavirus bc he wanted to be optimistic & positive.
@nygovcuomo says "subjective interpretations" are happening & some want to be optimistic.
Cuomo adds: "I am interested in the facts first. Give me the facts unjaded by your opinion."
Ryan Struyk...
“Reported US coronavirus cases and deaths via @cnn:
Beginning of March: 71 cases, 1 death
End of March: 185,469 cases, 3,835 deaths”
Maybe if trump had express a little more concern and with some urgency way back when, the bolded numbers would be lower and I wouldn’t be facing another month of mandatory self isolation or shelter in place or whatever it’s called.

Which is more beneficial to small businesses that will be hurt the most and their employees.
This?
trump..
”Congress must pass the old, and very strongly proven, deductibility by businesses on restaurants and entertainment. This will bring restaurants, and everything related, back - and stronger than ever. Move quickly, they will all be saved!”
Or this..
SBA..
”The CARES Act provides guaranteed loans to businesses to cover payroll and other expenses like mortgage and utilities. The loans are forgivable if your business retains its employees and rehires any employees that have been laid off.”
In case you are wondering what trump is blabbing about.
Gene Sperling...
”So you think key thing for opening restaurants and restoring jobs for millions of their workers is restoring meal/entertainment business tax deduction?? Congrats. You've made it impossible to parody that you think self-dealing & tax cuts for well-off is a cure for everything.”

Surely Definitely better than the administration!

”Pence dodges a question from Fox on how Americans can get insurance during the coronavirus pandemic. After Pence finishes, Trump adds: "I think it's one of the greatest answers I've ever heard, because Mike was able to speak for five minutes and not even touch your question."
Let me repeat the question “how can Americans get insurance during the coronavirus pandemic “
And trump thinks pence gave “the greatest answer I’ve ever heard” by not answering it. This coming from the President of the United States during a pandemic.
Think about that for a minute.

What am I missing here...... we pay FEMA through taxes, FEMA is paying for the flights, but part of the supplies are going to the private sector and NOT to the taxpayers needs? The states have to buy from the same private sector vendors?!?!?! (CNN)Only a portion of the medical supplies being flown in by the Federal Emergency Management Agency from overseas are being allotted to critical hotspots prioritized by the agency and the Department of Health and Human Services. The rest will resupply the private market, where competition between states and the federal government has been a source of frustration for governors trying to shore up equipment to treat patients with coronavirus, according to multiple officials. The Trump administration has touted the incoming flights, billing them and the equipment they're bringing in as a reprieve to states desperate for supplies. But states are not the sole recipients of the equipment, according to a FEMA spokesperson. Supplies will also be sent to the private market, where states have been in fierce competition with each other to get hold of hard-to-come-by supplies."These supplies will soon be distributed around the country. We have large cargo planes coming in from various parts of the world," President Donald Trump said during Wednesday's briefing, noting it includes gloves, gowns, goggles and masks. "We're adding more and more." Trump has suggested that states are overestimating their needs, previously saying, "Some people frankly think they need them and they don't need," referring to ventilators. To fill the supply shortage, FEMA is chartering overseas flights with medical supplies secured by private companies. On the first overseas flight that landed at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday, according to FEMA, the federal agency purchased 60% of the supplies from the private company, and distributed the supplies in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The remaining 40% of the supplies on the flight went back to the private market. In the overseas flights that have followed, however, FEMA has given the private companies supplying medical equipment a list of prioritized hot spots, identified by FEMA and HHS, that should receive at least 50% of supplies from the flight. According to one official, each chartered flight will be different in terms of what resources get distributed where, based on contracts negotiated by the government and the companies providing the supplies. As of noon Wednesday, four flights -- all chartered by FEMA -- had arrived with supplies, according to FEMA. The agency has not released a list of the counties that will receive supplies but indicated they include areas in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Washington and California. ** One of the sources of supplies -- the Strategic National Stockpile -- is deploying the last round of shipments in its inventory, depleting the bulk of its protective gear, according to a source familiar. As the National Stockpile runs low, FEMA is assessing the global market for much needed medical supplies and working with private entities to secure and distribute that equipment to health care workers across the country. The chartered flights, according to the administration, will expedite the process for companies seeking to get medical supplies to clients in the US. But where those items will go is still not a guarantee, even for states where the flights are expected to land. A senior Illinois state official told CNN's Jake Tapper on Wednesday that the state was not benefiting from the supplies coming to their state. Referring to "Project Airbridge" -- the airlift of supplies -- the official said "all the goods went to other states." "We got nothing," the official added. ** More at link! www.cnn.com/2020/04/01/politics/fema-flights-distribution/index.html

Build that wall!!!!! Almost $30 million in drugs seized in nearly half-mile-long tunnel linking US and MexicoBy David Williams, CNN Updated 11:29 AM ET, Wed April 1, 2020 (CNN)Federal agents in San Diego seized about 4,400 pounds of drugs from a sophisticated smuggling tunnel that stretched into Tijuana, Mexico, authorities in California announced Tuesday. The three-foot-wide tunnel is more than 2,000 feet long and has reinforced walls, ventilation, lighting and a rail system, according to a statement from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It had an average depth of 31 feet. The tunnel linked a warehouse in the Otay Mesa section of San Diego to another in Tijuana. Authorities found 1,300 pounds of cocaine, 86 pounds of methamphetamine, 17 pounds of heroin, 3,000 pounds of marijuana and more than two pounds of fentanyl in the tunnel, according to the statement. The drugs have a street value of $29.6 million."These tunnels show the determination of drug trafficking organizations to subvert our border controls and smuggle deadly drugs into our community. But these recent tunnel seizures also show the dedication of our amazing partners on the San Diego Tunnel Task Force to locate and shut down these tunnels to keep our communities safe," Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge John W. Callery said in a statement. ** www.cnn.com/2020/04/01/us/san-diego-drug-tunnel-trnd/index.html

Excuse me for jumping in on a thread where this may not be the place to add my question or it may have been discussed earlier.
I’ve just seen video on our news of President Trump addressing the nation maybe yesterday but definitely in the last couple of days, and ALL the men behind him are pretty much shoulder to shoulder. There is NO social distancing going on and in another report he can be seen with his hands on the lectern then handing over to someone else, clapping that person on the shoulder and that person then places HIS hands on the lerctern too.
Are you not social distancing country wide? Is it up to each State to make the decision?
Our daily briefings are done with each speaker having their own lectern, spaced appropriately and the reporters/journalists attend remotely.

No we don’t have a cohesive national social distancing policy in effect, it’s up to the states, and not all of them are on the same page. Although I’m pretty sure Washington DC has one, but the White House seems to be exempt. And watching them all touch the podium, the microphone, stand so close, and then Trump patting them all on the shoulders on the way out is mind boggling. I had thought that Trump was a huge Germaphobe before this virus.

I'm joining gillyp and also asking - why, in the midst of all that is going on with this virus sweeping your country, is his daily press briefing covering things like the drug cartels, Iran and calling out reporters who ask legitimate questions? - shouldn't he be concentrating on briefing everyone about what the government are doing to fight the biggest threat to your lives at this moment - Covid-19? I have to stop smdh! He is so so totally out of his depth, it's frightening.

I guess Trump thinks he is ‘above’ getting Covid 19 I’ve been saying this for 2 weeks now, you can have a press conference with at least the appearance of social distancing but Trump refuses .🤷♀️ NY can do it, NJ can do it, California can do it, other states can do it, but apparently it’s not something the White House can handle. 🤷♀️ My DD sent a picture of a Japanese press conference and they aren’t social distancing either. 🤷♀️
