I’ve never had a desire to make socks. I admit to raising one eyebrow at those of you who enjoy it. I just don’t get it, even though everyone’s work is lovely. However, these three pairs are telling me that one day I might just succumb. I knit my first sock (yes, sock, not socks!) just to see if I could. Then I put it on, and was hooked. Same for my younger son - I handed him the first sock of a pair I was making, he put it on and then started doing everything for me, so I could keep knitting and make the second sock! My DDiL was the same - made her one pair, and got a message a month later from my older son (her DH) saying she needed more socks, as she loved them so much. I also just like knitting them - I can knit them without a pattern, so they are great 'carry around' knitting for appointments and knit nights.

So is there a particular type of wool that’s best for socks?

So is there a particular type of wool that’s best for socks? I mainly use yarn that is sold as sock yarn - 4ply/fingering weight, 75%wool/25%nylon, really high twist so it's sturdy. Most of mine are German brands - Regia, Opal, Jawoll - as they are easy to buy here and relatively inexpensive. I can get 100g (enough for one pair of socks) for under €10.

Hi! I hope you feel better soon RedSquirrelUK ! lainey , your socks are amazing! I'm working, a little, in my art journal. I'm getting the itch to scrapbook again, so I'm hoping to start a layout soon. I'm still working on crochet, I have a scarf almost done and a blanket about a third of the way done. I'm very new at crochet, and not too familiar with any stitch other then the basics. I hope everyone stays well, and am looking forward to seeing your projects during the month.

dewryce I get The Scraproom kit. I love it. It's just a little taste of current product. I make two layouts with each of the four mini kits and then throw stuff away. I figure I got my money's worth. This makes my shoulders raise and my anxiety start up a little I read something about using your leftovers to make a card and thought that was a great idea. But I’ve never finished enough of a paper collection to warrant that. I’m more of a collector and organizer than I am a scrapper. You should have seen the look my husband gave me when he walked in and heard the video trying to sell that ScrapRoom kit club. Then he accused me of cheating...on Jennifer McGuire (she is anal like me and does cards). I can’t tell you how much I love that he knew it wasn’t her voice, and remembers her name!

I think sock yarns come in some of the most beautiful colorways! But I don’t make socks so I buy them and then have to find a pattern to use them for. Using sock yarn to knit anything up but socks takes.so.long! Handmaiden Sea Silk has been my favorite to work with so far, so smooth and just gorgeous. But no good for socks I’m assuming? I also really like Malabrigio sock yarn. It’s 100% wool. Who knows, maybe some day I will make actual socks with my sock yarn! How do you know if it is a high twist? I can’t find that information on any of my labels.

Only a week? And they look like that? I am a failure at life I'm in the Winwick Mum group on FB and I feel so slow compared to other people! I finished my Flax sweater but it's a hot mess, I really struggled with picking up stitches for the underarms and it looks messy. I'm going to have a go at this Edie sweater so I'm hoping to do a better job

RedSquirrelUK hope you are on the mend soon. lainey so glad to see you. I've been focusing on making masks for the people that work in my sister's medical business. I'm mailing them off today and then I need to get back to that damn Christmas stocking. I am bound and determined to get it finished.

Hi lainey glad you’re back. Nice socks:) This month I have all kinds of plans to make more puppets for the nature Center. I’ve also been watching some embroidery classes on Bluprint (free until April 9th), so I have plans to do that too. Unfortunately the need for masks in my community is so high I’ve been making them non stop for about a week. Funny story - last year I bought a big bag of lace remnants. When I opened it, I realised it was stretchy underwear lace so I didn’t have anything to use it for. But now, there’s a nationwide shortage of elastic, so I’ve been using my underwear lace for mask ties!!

I haven't been following these craft threads so this may be old news, but my sister just clued me into paint with diamonds kits. She is waiting on hers to arrive and I just ordered one. Basically like paint by numbers but with crystals. I ordered a complex one that should keep me busy for many moons! And cause my hand to cramp up probably. When it's all done, I might make it into a pillow or a wall hanging.

I didn’t know I shouldn’t be adding photos as attachments so I’m trying it differently. A quick baby blanket:

Good morning! It's a new month so I figure we need a new thread. What's everyone's plans for quarantine April? I am expecting an order from WoolWarehouse either today or tomorrow. I order sStylecraft Wondersoft Stardust in Silver for my Lost Souls Shawl. I plan to make this one huge and cozy and keep it for sure. I am still working away at the Daisyboo Palmyra Diamonds wrap too. But I just can't get enthusiastic about that one. I'm working it basically whenever I have time without another project on my hook so it's slow going. What's everyone else up to? I didn’t get an order in to Wool Warehouse before they stopped shipment to the US, boo! Not that I don’t have enough yarn to keep me busy into eternity. I’m trying to decide what I want to work on next.

I don’t do anything with the finished ones, but they’re cheap enough to just do for a fun stress-relieving activity (like a jigsaw puzzle or coloring.)

I am debating placing an order from Jimmy Beans Wool for another Scheepjes whirl. I want to do another Buddha shawl. I just can't decide on a color.

Hi everyone! Belated dewrycelainey welcome back, glad you’re feeling happier. Your socks look great RedSquirrelUK hope you’re better very soon finsup that blanket looks gorgeously squishy I took a break from my big long term crochet project in March, but back onto it today so it doesn’t stretch out to 3 years I’m also trying to get some good progress in on some other WIPs, including cross stitch, which I’m loving right now. I’m using a fun app called Tiny Decisions to tell me what project to work on each day!

Beautiful projects everyone! Welcome back lainey ! It's great to see you again. Feel better soon RedSquirrelUK. I've just finished up the next step of my hexagon blocks. Once I put them up on the design wall and decide placement, I'll sew it together. Hoping to have the top completed in the next few days so I can post a photo. In the meantime, I offer this up as my contribution!

My yarn from Wool Warehouse still hasn't arrived. So I pulled out my last old WIP to work on. I started this blanket five years ago.

I bought the pattern for this shawl yesterday, I haven't crocheted in ages but I'm feeling the urge to do some. It's the Waroo shawl, I'm planning to do it in pale, medium and dark pink which is a bit different for me.
