I was curious about that, too. I was out of luck because I didn’t think to stock up when this all started, and then there was none to be found. But, I was able to get the big SAF brick from a local caterer, and now I am good to go! Except, then I couldn’t get flour. Only bread flour, which I am using. Seems fine, but, I wish I could get a little more AP flour.

Although I see plenty of bread in the stores, I want to limit shopping as much as possible, and the bread just doesn't have that long of a shelf life. I haven't seen any yeast, but I always have plenty of flour on hand because I like to bake cookies and things. I did grab a bag of frozen bread dough, because I don't like frozen baked bread, and I got some bread substitutes with longer shelf lives, English muffins, bagels, etc.

Bread Machines are sold out everywhere. It is somewhat shocking, as they had dropped quite a bit in popularity, but they aren’t to be found now. (Well, there a handful of cheap off-brands available). So, apparently, there is a LOT of bread making going on.

Can't find yeast, but no shortage of flour yet. I bake several times a week anyway, so yeast is definitely a staple. I am rationing it. I'm not baking just for fun right now. Baking with yeast was definitely something I had to try and fail at a fair few times before I got the hang of it. I am very curious about sourdough baking, so I'll be looking into that over Easter. Let me know if you have a great beginner's resource for baking with sourdough! Sjekk barebrabarnemat.no.

It has been my impression that very few women today know anything at all about baking with yeast. Men can bake too! LOL My son started baking bread when he was in college. It isn't rocket science, and there are so many resources out there to learn how. I use yeast at least once a week, mostly for pizza dough. I use 4 ought flour for my pizza dough. Works great for making gravy too! I think more people are stuck at home, and baking bread is something fun to do, plus you can eat your mistakes! LOL

I buy yeast by the pound at Costco for my bread machine. It’s grinding out a loaf everyday now to feed five people lunch. We use a lot of peanut butter too. I simply will not make special lunches. We started lockdown (3weeks ago) with 3.5 jars Peanut butter and 3.5 jars of Nutella. One of my kids eats a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich daily. The other kid eats a Nutella sandwich daily. We’ve already used a full jar of each!

I think given the option, most people would prefer to eat homemade bread all the time, but so few people have the time to actually bake it - rising, kneading, etc. It's time consuming. Now that people are home pretty much all the time, they have the time and more flexibility in our schedules to bake things like homemade bread. And, we're bored. Or, maybe we can't get bread at the store easily. All of that.

This is the pizza dough recipe we make. It’s super easy, no proofing of yeast required. It all goes into the stand mixer at once. Usually enough dough for 2 12” pizzas. It holds well in the fridge for a week or so. DH has even made it into a loaf of bread! www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/pizza-dough-recipe-1921714I need to make some sandwich bread.

It took me 3 weeks to find some flour for my mom. She always made bread when I was growing up so she's no stranger to making it herself.
3/4 of my household is gluten sensitive. I just pulled out the last loaf of GF bread from the freezer yesterday. This was bread I'd bought on last week's shopping run as there was none to be found this week. I have a prescription to pick up, hopefully, today at the pharmacy in our grocery store so I'll check for bread again. If I am out of luck, I'll be exploring the art of making gluten-free bread. I've done a little bit of gluten free baking so I've yeast on hand and enough flour to make a loaf or two. Maybe more if I can find recipes that use ingredients I have on hand.

I have yeast but I cannot find flour anywhere. I’ve been looking since the beginning of all this and haven’t found a bag yet. I found a bag right before things started to get scarce. Haven't found any since. But I stopped in at Aldi's yesterday just to see if they had any and they did! Target, Walmart, drug stores and grocery stores are all out around here.
We would love to make cookies as around Christmas, we have big hopes, but are so busy so we don't make cookies. Now would be a good time, but with flour being almost impossible to find, we aren't doing much baking at our house.

Yep. My daughter works at Safeway and said she would look out for a jar for me since they get first dibs. No luck after a week. Like none coming into the store at all. I have a 10 lb bag of flour. Guess I'll keep making cookies.

If you have yeast that is older and doesn't give a good rise, it should still work for pizza crust. We love this quick recipe - I usually triple it for two sheet pan pizzas. It directs you to mix by hand, but I usually use the dough hook on my mixer.

Score! I found two bricks of yeast that I’d forgotten about in the back of my fridge. They’re pretty old and I thought they were dead, but I tested them and they’re OK. Made pizza and flatbread. Getting ready to haul out the bread machine that’s been in my garage for awhile.

Me. I’m using my bread machine that I previously only used on Christmas Eve to make cinnamon rolls. 😂 Now I’m making multigrain bread weekly for us.

Huh - I've been making GF bread for DH and he came back from the store and they were out of yeast. I have 3 packets left which will last me 3 weeks so maybe I can order some before we run out.

I heard today that the lack of bread baking ingredients (I’ve been looking since this began as I had just run out) is due to the increased demand on bakeries. They obviously require large quantities & it takes time to change production over to domestic quantities which is not a priority. Kinda made sense to me, don’t know how true it is.

I haven't looked for yeast as I still had some but I will check this week. I do bake bread though normally not loaf bread - rolls and sometimes sweet things that have yeast in them. I make my own pizza dough which makes enough for 1 pizza fresh and two more frozen, which I just did at the beginning of all this.
Couldn't find flour here at first but found some at Aldi's. They had just wheeled in a pallet of it and hadn't even bothered to put it on shelves. Eventually I did find my preferred brands of plain and bread flour at different stores on different weeks. Some things you just have to keep a running list and check whenever you are in a store. I alternate between Walmart one week and the other grocery store the next so I can keep what I want in stock.
Bread was hard to find here at first but now it is fairly easy to find. You can't always get your favorite.

I know a lot of people who know how to make bread and we have been making our own bread/pizza dough/etc. for close to 13 years now. I bought a brick of yeast last month because I thought this might be a problem, though I'm not sure how long the brick will last us, if it stays out of stock we'll probably make a starter that we can continue to use.

Check your Dollar Store if you have one (and if they are open).

I have a lot of yeast. I bought a big package at Costco a while ago, then separated it into vacuum sealed bags and put it in the freezer. I also have a big tin can of it from when we cleaned out my mom's house. It's old and I have no idea if it's still alive. Plus, apparently, since I am married to a chemist, I'm never really out of yeast. I haven't asked for that experiment yet.
I also bought flour back in February when I saw what was about to go down. And I have seen flour intermittently at the store, but it's usually 25 lb bags. And there is a Grain Mill not too far away, so I'm not too worried about finding it if I need it. But I have a lot of bread in the freezer right now, so haven't needed any of it yet.

Just for the record, I know they don't use yeast, but today I have baked both scones and banana bread.

I've been making all of our bread (other than buns) in a bread machine since 2001. Thankfully I had just bought a new jar of yeast right before all this started. today I went grocery shopping and pretty much the only flour on the shelf was the King Arthur white whole wheat that I use. I guess no one likes this kind.

My 18 year old son has started baking bread. I bought the big package at Costco. Should last quite awhile.

We've been making bread since we were first married almost 32 years ago. Now it's mostly Dh but finding flour right now is insane.

Bread was hard to find here at first but now it is fairly easy to find. You can't always get your favorite. I checked today in my store when I went in for my husband's prescription. There were plenty of choices. Gluten free bread was another story. I found one kind in the freezer section. It's the brand I prefer, but a different variety. I bought half of what was left on the shelf; two loaves! I might have to ask dillydally for the recipe she bakes for her husband! Yeast I have!

All you bread bakers, can you tell me if I can use regular all purpose flour for bread if I add gluten? I was able to get Bob’s Red Mill gluten, but can’t find bread flour.

I make pretzels pretty regularly. And challa on occasion. I made hamburger buns recently. DH scored us some more flour, and a friend had an unopened jar of yeast from 2015 that she said we could have. (I proofed it and it was good--she got pretzels!)
