I was at Sams today and they had some flour back in stock (rice too). I picked up a 25lb bag of bread flour for DH for only twice the price of the 5lb bags I usually buy for him at the grocery store.

I started making bread again about 6 months ago when I started having food allergies. I found very few breads that I could actually eat without costing a fortune. I bought a big thing of yeast from Amazon right before the world shut down. Every time we find flour we buy at least one bag. We can't seem to find actual bread anywhere, so making is our only option at this point.

Someone in a fb breadmaking group said she makes her own bread flour by mixing vital wheat gluten with all purpose flour. She didn't mention the ratio though. elaine someone else just posted it's one heaping tablespoon of vital wheat gluten per cup of flour. THANK YOU!! I have a bread machine coming Wednesday. Will be making a fresh loaf as soon as it gets here.

I had to go to TJs this morning for the rest of the ingredients for our Seder dinner tomorrow night. They had a huge display of all purpose flour. I’d guess over 200 bags. So, check your Trader Joe’s.

I am being told that yeast is impossible to find. That sort of stuns me. It has been my impression that very few women today know anything at all about baking with yeast. I know how, and am currently baking all our bread (but only due to this crisis and not wanting to go out). Fortunately I bought a ton of yeast and stuck it in the freezer months ago. Don't know what good angel inspired me to do it, because I truly rarely use yeast. But the current shortage makes me wonder. How many of you are now baking bread? Anyone looking for yeast call Aldi's. I just grabbed some, they said they hadn't run out as of yet.

Well, it looks like King Arthur flour has upped its flour production. The 2 bags I ordered from them and the 2 bags I ordered from Amazon will all be delivered by Monday!

All you bread bakers, can you tell me if I can use regular all purpose flour for bread if I add gluten? I was able to get Bob’s Red Mill gluten, but can’t find bread flour. you can. One tablespoon gluten to each cup of flour. Adjust as needed. I have been baking bread both by hand and machine forever, ok 45 year or more, so bread making is not new to me. In 5-6 months there will be so many slightly used machines on the market it will be crazy!

We bought fresh yeast at a local Italian market. I’ve used it a couple times now and I love it! You have to proof it first but I’m liking the taste and the results.

I have yeast but I cannot find flour anywhere. I’ve been looking since the beginning of all this and haven’t found a bag yet. Can’t find either flour or yeast. Have not looked for sugar. I enjoy baking and cooking. Now that I am home and can, I don’t have the supplies.
