Even in quarantine, I can think of probably hundreds of other things to do that are more worth my time. But if it makes you happy, have fun!

I have to clean my clean laundry? No. 😂. There are 6 people in this house. I don’t have time to clean the clean laundry and the dirty laundry.

I can barely keep up with the basic wash dry and fold. I used to strip cloth diapers though.

Saw the title and thought somebody's following Go Clean Co 😆 OMG those posts 🤢 clean white towels and the water is black after, all those clothes are clean and laundered and that's what comes out. Someone posted it smelled so bad they had to keep the bathroom door closed.
I think these low washing machines aren't helping and fabric softener or those scent beads adds a coating that builds up on clothes. I'm wait for unscented Tide to come in stock and then I'm going to try it.

This is just soaking your clothes in a double dose of detergent- washing soda=detergent. I would think that soaking your clothes in the washer's soak cycle would be more effective.

We replaced our washer and dryer a few years back and I searched for an old-fashioned set with very few bells-and-whistles. My top load washer has an agitator and I generally keep the water setting on the highest level. I use less detergent than called for in most loads of everyday laundry. I only use more detergent and any additives (OxiClean or bleach) when specifically needed. No liquid fabric softener. I use dryer balls and add a dryer sheet occasionally as needed.
Long story short - if you don't add a lot of chemicals to your clothes, you don't have need to strip them out.

Before I would go to all the trouble of stripping my sheets and towels, someone would have to convince me that the change in the color of the water in the soaking tub was caused by the "grossness" in my towels and sheets rather than a chemical reaction caused by the mixing of Borax and washing soda in water.

Sunshine is the best disinfectant (and bleach) around. I washed my couch cushion covers yesterday and put them out in the sun to dry. I also put my uncovered cushions out in the sun. The spots on the cushions where heads rest were yellowed with body oils/sweat and were bleached white with no odor by afternoon. I also recommend putting white linens out in the sun to bleach rather than using bleach. I personally like the smell of bleach, so I do both.

I feel like this wouldn't need to be done if we got rid of water saving washing machines. Ever since I got one 12 years ago, I don't feel like my clothes are clean like the "old days." Can you not just change the water setting? I can't on mine. It senses the size of the load and fills the tub accordingly. I hate it! I hate that the washing machine thinks it's smarter than I am!

I haven’t used borax and washing soda together so I can’t really comment on that, but I have used borax by itself to soak a bunch of DD’s socks. I’m talking previously washed, supposedly “clean” socks, and the water in the basin after soaking them was absolutely disgusting. We have a HE washer, use the correct (small) amount of detergent and never use fabric softener and we also have hard water which makes detergent less effective. I know my clothes and laundry aren’t getting as clean with the HE washer as they did with our old school top loader that we had before at our old house that eventually died. As to the original question, I have “stripped” our bath towels by washing with baking soda and white vinegar before to remove funk smells, and that does work. FWIW, I’m never going to own another front loading washer after this one dies. Even though I don’t overdo the detergent, don’t use any scent boosters or fabric softeners (which a lot of people do), and I do use plain vinegar in more loads than not, leave the door and compartments open when I’m not using the washer so it can dry out between loads and clean out the filter as recommended, etc. I still end up getting a funky smelling washer. The disgusting, slimy, stinky black muck that comes out of the filter is so gross.

The only items I could see doing this with, would be my dh's work clothes. I already do a presoak, wash, and double rinse. But some items are stained. I wonder if that would help at all? I don't use towels, sheets, etc that long to get that grimy. I mean, ya, if you don't change your sheets for a month, then maybe? IDK. just wash your stuff more often?

I use good old fashioned White Dial Soap on stains. White board marker stains, food stains, blood, when ds was on TPN, when dd was on NG feeds, grass stains, ring around the collar...gets it all out. Get the area wet, get the soap wet, lather up, and toss into the washer with your normal detergent and I always do an extra rinse.

I have an very simple top loading GE washing machine that also has an agitator and I too fill the water to the highest level. I use a laundry detergent called Charlie's Soap that is advertised to be eco-friendly, and deep clean your clothes leaving nothing behind on your clothes. It only has 4 ingredients, and uses 1 tablespoon per load. You don't get a lot of suds but it deep cleans amazingly well. It gets out smells exceedingly well but isn't full of perfumes which is great for me because almost all laundry detergents at the grocery store are so filled with perfumes they trigger migraines for me. The company also offers a laundry booster if you have hard water which we do so I use that too with every load. I used to use Tide Free but once I found this I haven't gone back-it is so much better. I get it from Amazon. With Charlie's Soap I don't need to use a fabric softener at all so I don't even bother. The only time my clothes come out of the dryer needing one is if I dry a fleece time with a polyester type of item and that's just a temporary sticking together sort of situation-no biggie at all. Laundry machines are better without fabric softeners being used anyway.

I’ve been watching gocleanco on Instagram for a couple of weeks now and she has a series on laundry stripping. I’ve been researching it for about a year now and now that I have the time, I’m finally going to dive in. I’ve ordered the supplies and I’ll be doing it! Starting with our clean towels. Curious why you think this needs to be done? No snark... I just don't understand. It removes all of the funky stink and body oils from towels that detergent alone can’t do. People have been sharing their own laundry stripping results and while the towels look clean the water is disgusting after only a few minutes.

Believe it or not I'm in a laundry group on fb and this is a really popular thing there. I have a top loader that fills up all the way so I have no plans to strip my laundry.

I have a top loading machine with up to 2 hour soak. Sometimes I'll soak my whites with oxyclean for a couple hours and it makes them brighter. I could see doing this with my husband's work clothes. I might give it a shot today.

I'm practicing laundry surviving. I have came up with a stellar organization system in my son's closet where I don't fold 90% of the clothes he wears. I have a smaller system with my own. I figure over the course of several years, that's a lot of minutes back to do better things.

I've never had anything other than a front loader, it never smells of anything but laundry liquid. I run the drum clean cycle every couple of months on our new one and it's spotless.

They can dress out of the basket or put it away. Empty basket gets returned to the laundry room on Sunday morning. I hang up mine and DH’s shirts and pants. Undies get folded. Socks get matched. Saves sooooo much time!

I only use maybe 2 tablespoons of unscented all and a splash of Lysol. in my machine.
No problem with icky clothes or stinky machine
Use your pre soak cycle if you want to soak your clothes.

Getting rid of our front loader when it died and replacing it with the top loader was one of the best moments of my life!!! I was so damn happy about it I didn’t even mind dropping the $700ish to replace it. Could not be happier without that monstrosity. And, while my front loader was huge and looked like I could fit 2 weeks of laundry in it, I could actually barely fit one twin sized comforter in it. 😡. Now, my new washer takes up way less room in my laundry room, and I can easily fit a queen sized comforter in it (and then some). It is my favorite appliance in the house! I also like that it plays little songs. 😄

The lady that runs the page did it first with her workout clothes that were all freshly washed and she washed and wore each week for at least a year. The water was gross and she said it smelled like gym sweat. Then she did it with her white towels and I'm sure she bleaches all the time, she loves the bleach. Makes me curious.

We just got a brand new was her about six months ago and I didn’t realize that part needed to be taken out and cleaned regularly. I just did it yesterday and it was full of pet hair and loose thread after only six months.

I use hot water and bleach for washing towels and sheets. Don't see the need to soak them in super hot water and borax. Used to do that with bedding 60+ years ago when we did not have running water and needed to run more than one "load" through the ringer washer. Have no desire to do it again.
Thinking that alot of the "grime" they are showing in the water when clothes have been stripped is dye being leached from the clothes rather than dirt? Just a hunch.
