I think one of AC's HUGE problems is that they sell it to JoAnns, etc. Why in the world would a LSS buy it if JoAnns has it? If I was the owner of a LSS, I wouldn't buy it. Also, eventually, you can find the paper pads, embellishments and stamps in Tuesday Morning for a fraction of the price. I hope Shimelle doesn't go towards Echo Park -it just seems to me that it all kinda looks the same. I tend to agree with you on the fact that sell at JoAnn's. I just bought a bunch of it for 30% and 50% off. But my LSS has tons of lines that I can find for a fraction of the price elsewhere. She never knows what is going to show up at other stores. Many of the packs at Tuesday Morning have been popular in previous years and then printed cheaper and sold to Tuesday Morning.

That was so nice of Shimelle to stop by. I'm glad I said good things about her. Yesterday I went to Scrapbook.com and bought a ton of Shimelle's last two lines. I'm stocking up. I especially like the dandelion paper in her last line- I used mine already and have bought 3 more sheets. I'm sure more of her stuff will show up at Tuesday Morning but I wanted to make sure I have enough to last me for a while. I just did the same thing at scrapbook.com - stocked up on Shimelle products.

Geesh, I call her the "Side B" Queen because if I don't necessarily care for Side A ( I always appreciate the cohesion in each collection's theme) I know that Side B will be amazing and she has NEVER disappointed with her freshness.

I love Shimelle and she does a fabulous job at selling her supplies because of the way she uses them. It’s awesome that she stopped in here. 😃 But, I have to credit craftymom101 and her LOs for getting me to buy Sparkle City and some of the other more “pink” Shimelle lines!

What I meant was that the renovations could have haunted due to COVID. I understand it had nothing to do with AC. Shimelle came in and answered though, so now we know. Sorry, I misread your post - I didn't realise you were referencing the renovations. My mistake KikiPea Oops. I typed haunted, instead of halted! Yikes! LOL

I have asked my LSS to buy AC several times for different things, and they won’t do it. They are literally 5 min down the street from Joann’s.

I wish we had a LSS here that I could buy name brands from. We don't even have Joann! Three Michaels locations on this island and that's it. You'd think the boroughs of NYC would have more for crafters, but nope... have to go to Long Island or NJ

Ouch. I wondered what would happen to her AC collab seeing her collection release rhythm wasn't increasing. But I didn't expect this announcement already. It looks like AC has cut off quite a few brand/designer collaborations recently. Project Life from Becky Higgins, 1Canoe2, Shimelle. Yikes. 😵
Echo Park would be a decent fit for her if they were interested in signing a name, not an actual artist to make the artwork. She's got that more doodly, cute aesthetic that they like to incorporate in their collections.

I think some designers do more designing than others. A lot of Shimelle’s papers do include her own handwriting and drawings, and I think she does a lot more designing than some other people, but AC has more control over what gets used and color schemes and what products get produced. I hope scrapbook dot com might continue working with her even without the AC connection, and maybe another company will pick her up, if that’s what she wants. I know she has said that some of the things that “we” loved were actually bombs from the point of view of sales - like Head in the Clouds. Did very badly. As we have concluded many times on this board, what “scrapbookers” supposedly want and/or buy is not necessarily what *we* love, want, and buy. I’m sad to hear they are cutting ties, but honestly I’m not so much surprised as just disappointed. I think the best ways to support her are to shop scrapbook dot com using her affiliate link (for her stuff or for anything) and sign up for her classes! I didn’t know Head in the Clouds did not do well. I loved the dragons and castles from that collection but I haven’t used a single mermaid. I still love the collection for Disney pages! I am so sad she won’t be designing for AC anymore. She mentioned it a week or two ago on a Fbk Live - there was some question about it and she kind of ruefully said, yeah, for all the good things she'd heard from people about it, it didn't sell well at all. (I'm 90% certain it was HitC she was talking about, not Sparkle City.) I used the mermaids for card donations for Cards for Hospitalized Kids. The fairy tale adventure theme was perfect for that (I don't like to remind kids of the real life adventures they might be missing out on).

I'm so sad to read this. Shimelle is the only scrapper I've ever really followed or bothered to watch videos of. Even if the pages or products used weren't necessarily something I liked, I always learned something and I always took something away from the video that made my scrapbooking better. In the past whenever I placed an order for supplies I would add a couple sheets of patterend paper from Shimelle's current collection or Thickers or something. Just to show my support for her and all of the quality content she provides for free. Now I think I'll go buy her Sketch class instead.
ETA: 1Canoe2 also?! Nooooo. I know that line wasn't very popular on the board but I always loved what they produced. Some of my favorite layouts were made from 1Canoe2 products.

AC end their relationship with Shimelle... an artist who provides an endlessly ongoing amount of inspiration, who clearly has a passion for both her products and scrapbooking in general, and (I would think most importantly to AC) who actively uses and promotes her products. And yet, the Becky Higgins / Project Life relationship dragged on until she had successfully driven her business right into the ground. How does that work? I feel like there is a decision maker at AC just like Homer

I still buy Amy Tangerine's products.... I like her designs a lot and she does still scrapbook. Maybe not as often, but she posts videos. I hope that Shimelle's doing okay. She seems like she's keeping her chin up and will be fine, and I'm sure she will be fine of course, but I can't imagine she's not a little bummed out about it. Same here. I liked Amy’s recent collection and you can usually see her style in her collections just like Shimelle. I still watch a lot of Amy’s videos as well. I think Shimelle is great, too and is an amazing contributor to the scrapbooking industry. It may actually be in her favor not to be tied to AC moving forward.

I agree, it may allow her to have more freedom and put out everything she wants to! Here's hoping she'll still make products somewhere else.

Hopefully she will design for another company. I think her lines were always pretty versatile. The B sides could work for anything. I appreciate the enthusiasm she brings and she’s an excellent instructor.

You could tell in her lives sometimes that she would be frustrated with the limitations AC put on her in what she was allowed to have in her collections. One of the things I specifically remember her mentioning was when she wanted some kind of mixed media product ( gold mist maybe?) and AC said no because she is the bright color/kid design collection and Vicky Boutin is mixed media. I'm sure being pigeon holed like that was very frustrating.

Wow, at first that sounds so disappointing, although in reality, I think things will work out better for Shimelle. Hope she can keep designing and that we can buy her products! And I love the idea of her designing collections for Carta Bella, I love their products but in general they get a little vintage/grungy so I don't end up buying as much for that reason. It would be cool to see them add a segment of brighter and more modern designs! I bought a good supply of Field Trip and Never Grow up not too long ago and I don't even have young kids anymore! Love them!!
In general, I appreciate the availability of AC but there is way too much of a formula for their collections. And having so much at J's and TM doesn't help maintain the value of their products. Truly think this will be a positive for her... Wishing Shimelle the best moving forward!

This makes me want to start a scrapbooking company just to hire Shimelle! I'll be honest, I am part of the problem because I haven't bought her stuff for over a year but I haven't really bought anything except for stamps. She's got a great teaching style and her designs are cute and she genuinely loves the craft.

I’m not sure if this is a good idea to pull a Beetlejuice in this thread or not, but what the heck. ;-) A few people linked me to here and above all I want to say thank you for all the supportive words here. I was a little worried to click through because I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea (what a boring world that would be!) but gosh, that was a lot of love my way and I can’t thank you enough. And yes, every time I sketch an animal, it gets a name. Why wouldn’t it? ;-) To stop speculation on a couple things, this has nothing to do with Covid. And it’s not what stopped work on our house. That’s a whole other story of how one of the first contractors we had in talked a good talk but turned out to be a total conman who left us with a mess of building work and zero trust. We had finally got to another real point of progress when lockdown hit, so some things should start rolling again once it’s cool to have people in homes. I hope so. The sawdust and boxes are getting pretty old by now. I am absolutely fine with it all and I will still be scrapping as long as anyone wants to listen to me. And after that I’ll probably still be scrapping when no one wants to listen to me. That’s fine too. Thank you so much for your support. I know some of you go way back to the old days, and it’s lovely to know you’re still out there and still crafting. Puffy hearts to you all. Thanks, Shimelle, for coming on with this nice message. Glad to hear you are doing well and will still be sharing your creativity and and scrapping with those of us who enjoy it!
And, yeah, I think many of us understand about the house project issues and shady contractor. I empathize with that situation, BTDT. Hoping for a much better experience when that project can move forward again.
I think there are lot of us who are going to keep scrapping/creating even if all we can use is our stash and our own DIY materials (I sure hope it doesn't come to that). We'll be around (and keeping up with the scrappy adventures you share!)
Wishing for positive new doors to open for you, or just to enjoy creative freedom however you want to express it!

Shimelle has always been one of my favorites since back in the Glitter Girl days. In fact after several years away from scrapping its her videos that brought back my mojo. I love that in her videos she explains why she’s making certain choices for her layouts.
I hope she ends up somewhere that will allow her to design and create without limits. In support I’m off to check out her classes.

I don't quite know where I sit on this announcement. Shimelle's collections are, overall, not really a good fit for my style, so from that perspective I probably won't really notice or miss anything she might have made in the future. Because of that, I've always tried to support her by buying her classes which I generally love and get a lot out of. I did like that made sure her newest collection could work with her earlier ones, and she was one heck of a salesperson for her lines, almost everything I've bought since the first collections was because of how she (or craftymom101) used it.
