I don't lock mine in the driveway or the garage most of the time. DH used to not lock his, but now does. Both my boys lock theirs all of the time.

Not when I’m parked inside my garage, which is about 85% of the time. If my car was out in my driveway, then yes. In a store parking lot or parking ramp, definitely.

We've had numerous thefts in my neighborhood when people have left their car doors unlocked in their driveways. One person had their car unlocked, and the thieves used the garage door opener to access the garage. Turns out, the person also left the door between the garage and the house unlocked, so the thieves got in the house - while people were home in the middle of the night! 😮
I lock all of my doors constantly- I'll even lock the back door if I let the dogs out in my fenced backyard by themselves.

I do have a garage door opener in my car.

The only time my car is unlocked is if I’m opening the door, otherwise it is always locked whether I’m driving or parked.

We carry our garage door openers with us like keys. Never leave them in the car and never use the built in ones.

Not in the garage. If the car is outside in our driveway for any period of time the car is locked. And it is definitely locked when we leave home and leave it parked somewhere. I know I should be locking our cars in the garage.

I voted other. If I parked in the driveway ~ which I NEVER do ~ I would lock it. The latest thing in CA is car break-ins ~ smash and grab. Thanks to our wonderful CA government, it's only a misdemeanor if you steal less than $1000 worth of MY stuff. I don't lock it when it's in the garage. ETA: I always lock it when I'm out and about.

Yes, always. I grew up in the city, and live in the city. It has never occurred to me to leave my vehicle intentionally unlocked. The doors to our house are also always locked.
ETA: Vehicle is also driven with the doors locked.

When I'm out and about, absolutely (left over from being raised in a bigger city). When I'm home I usually do but I'll admit I've been lax about it lately until this week when there were reports around of some punks (presumably kids but no idea) breaking into cars, taking stuff and even destroying some of the interiors ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) so I'm trying to be better about remembering.

I always lock my van, except for when I forget. There's always a big debate on the neighborhood Facebook page about this--some people say always lock, others say don't lock because if you do the thieves will just smash a window to get what they want (older neighborhood where most people have to park in driveways or on the street because the garages are too small). My solution is to keep nothing of interest in my van, just a bunch of junk!

I chose not at home, but everywhere else, but that’s with exceptions. We park inside our garage almost always, and so not lock them inside. If we park out in the driveway for some reason, we will absolutely lock them if we are not out there with them. They will be locked at every other location outside of our garage.

Always lock except when one of us forgets. But I also make a point of never leaving anything of value in the car. DH is not so particular about that and has lost a couple pairs of expensive sunglasses and, most recently, a brand new pressure washer. 😡

Away from home - always.
On my drive - until lockdown I would have said that it wouldn't matter if I didn't, we live in a quiet village, but there's been quite a spate of thefts from cars lately so now we do.

I lock my car doors in parking lots but not at home or while driving in my area. We don't have a garage. Even the motorhome is left unlocked. Where we moved from our vehicle doors were always locked. It really depends on where one lives.

I chose not at home but everywhere else - but my car is in the garage with our automatic garage door opener so not accessible to people walking by.
But if I park in the driveway it is locked always.

Unless my car is in the garage, always. I even lock it if I have to park in the driveway for a short period of time. I grew up in L.A. We locked everything, always. My parents always told us not to leave anything visible in the car.

We dont have a drive, the car lives in a public car park about 100 yards away. So yes, it's always locked. We do, though, leave more in the car than most people on here seem to. I try to empty it when I remember, but I'm not good at it.

I always do. I have a keyless entry and it’s muscle memory for me to push the button when I close the door. My theft was truly the result of a chain of unusual events. My car charger is really the only thing of “value” I keep in my car. What’s the point of having it if it’s not there when you need it? But us usually, you can’t see it. But whoever took it still had to make an effort to see it. At least I have the charging cord...

I chose always but I park in the garage and it’s not locked there.
The one time my DH drove my car and left it in the driveway unlocked, my stereo got stolen. He never locks the suv in the driveway, it has a built in garage remote. Pisses me off. Our work truck no longer locks so it’s empty all the time.

Mine automatically locks 30 seconds after the key fob is taken out of the vehicle. I love this feature, because my car is never left unlocked.
It is a regular pastime of teens here to go through the townhouse parking lot late at night to check for unlocked cars and take what they can.
I lost an iPod I had stowed in my glove compartment a few years ago - there was a usb hookup in the glove compartment that allowed you to hook directly to an iPod to play music (this is pre-CarPlay days) - and I used a dedicated ipod. Until I forgot to lock the car one day.

Yes. It would never occur to me to not lock my car. I'm always shocked at people who do. Along with people who leave their purses/wallets in their cars and are then shocked when the car is broken into overnight.
