I selected Other as there have been plenty of protests in cities within San Diego county, but not specifically in our town, although a big peaceful protest is being organized for this weekend. I expect it to stay peaceful.

Relative to other large cities, Houston (George Floyd’s hometown) has been pretty peaceful. 60 thousand people marched yesterday. 200 were arrested for things like throwing bottles at the police and failing to clear the street when asked to do so. Property damage has been pretty limited, and there haven’t been any reports that I’ve seen of tear gas or other forceful measures being used. A woman was trampled by a police horse but that appears to have been an accident and she is OK. Our police chief has been out talking to protestors, listening, and marching with them.
Floyd’s funeral will be here next week, actually not very far from where I live. It remains to be seen if the relative peace can continue. I fear with the national attention possibly shifting here, that we will draw people from outside the city who want to create chaos.

A man and his son were pepper sprayed WHILE they were walking to their car to leave. That's terrible. All of the violence is terrible. Again, though, when you deliberately put yourself in a place where this chaos is expected, you are making a choice that has consequences that may not be foreseen. You and I both know that curfews have been pushed earlier because of need. Bricks and incendiary devices are being staged throughout our cities and pepper spray drifts a long way, so even if you think you're clear, you may not be. The people tasked with getting people to leave an area in an effort to protect as many lives and livelihoods as possible have been physically and mentally under attack for more than a week now. They aren't gods, they're people and they make mistakes. So, yeah. Even peaceful protesting may come at a personal cost that you didn't think about. Personally, I've seen live videos of a LOT of peaceful protesters who have been caught in a crowd of looters and who have tried to keep things peaceful but weren't able to. Pepper spray doesn't know the difference in a crowd. The violence is all terrible. It hurts real people and it hurts them deeply.

The fear is outsiders will come and turn the march into something it is not meant to be. You've got people from Washington state being arrested in Delaware for looting/rioting. That's a distance just under 3000 miles for anyone wondering.

I'm in the suburbs of Toronto so not sure it counts or not - there have been protests and they were peaceful, no issues.

I’m in the suburbs outside Seattle. We have had peaceful protests in our town. We had a curfew for a night and a half, but it’s been lifted because it wasn’t needed.
Obviously Seattle is a different story.

That's a distance just under 3000 miles for anyone wondering. This is what they "think" was going to happen yesterday at one of the Malls. All of our malls are still closed. There were 50 or so cars, all with NY plates at one of the malls with over 100 people walking to the entrance, the police believe they were there to loot. The police took down all the plate numbers, told them they took down the plate numbers and told them to leave. Then about 2 hours later, Providence Place was looted and the police think it was the same group due to all the NY plates. I fully support the protesting but the coordinated looting, no, I can't get behind that.

I’m beginning to hate the sound of helicopters and am hoping today is quieter since the mayor is meeting face to face with some of the community organizers this afternoon. 🤞🏻 And my god, some of the videos coming out of the protests are appalling. Instead of helping to diffuse, our PD and SP seems to making things worse when given the opportunities.

My kids took place in a protest last night. It was peaceful and had a lot of support. The police were walking among them and having conversations.
My DD's best friend was arrested last night in a different city. I saw video of the whole thing (ten minutes leading up to the arrest.) The police swarmed in on top of peaceful marchers with NO warning whatsoever and beat a bunch of young people with their clubs. She was dragged away with, again, absolutely no warning or anything from a peaceful march, and then held in jail overnight. It was 6:00 in the evening, no curfew underway, marching in a public area. Exercising her first amendment rights. There was absolutely nothing but marching and chanting going on from the protesters.

OH here. Since last weekend's protests ended up in destruction, the downtown area is locked down. Yesterday there was a big protest in front of the police station at the corner of our street. Was supposed to be 3-5pm. 2pm cops started closing down our part of the street, putting up traffic barrels on both ends of the block. Shortly thereafter, several police transport vans showed up. Cops got out, put on their riot gear, as protesters started gathering at the corner. I have no idea how many protesters there were. I went back and forth between watching it from my front porch, and watching the local media's Facebook livestream. My husband was at work, and was worried sick, and kept calling. Friends texted and called, offering to come get me. I won't lie. I was worried. Scared. It's one thing to watch things on TV, look at video clips and pictures online. It's different when it's happening right in front of your house. But none of what I felt compares to the fear (and anger) minorities are feeling. I will never be treated the way they are, just because my skin is white. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't afraid. Seeing police in riot gear facing off to angry, screaming protesters right in front of your house is something I hope I never have to see again. It wasn't until 9pm that the crowd dispersed and the cops left. By then I was emotionally drained and exhausted. And this may all sound super dramatic to you guys. It probably is. But it is my experience. And again, I want to emphasize that I know that it was nowhere near as scary as what minorities have to endure every single day of their lives. But I'm just a girl from Germany, who grew up living a pretty sheltered life, and who has been living in the US for almost 25 years, being thrown into situations and experiences I never ever thought could or would happen. #blacklivesmatter

I'm in Seattle as well and we're on however many days now of protests. My oldest is heading to one in a few hours, again. Our mayor has not been helping the situation at all -- when you have a police force under a consent decree because of documented police brutality, maybe agree not to try to get out from under it right now? It is *literally the least she could do.*
The police here have engaged in a lot of problematic behavior with respect to protesters. It's almost like if you deploy the people being protested to police the protesters, things can go very poorly.
FYI I work about two blocks from the main protest site here and you'd never even know people were protesting or had been protesting over there if I didn't tell you.

I live outside of Boston. We have had peaceful rallies, people gathering in town commons, and my particular town had a march from a small park on one end of town, through downtown, to the Central Park that is surrounded by a lot of churches and the Town Hall on one end, police station on the other. People spoke from the town hall steps and we had a lot of unity. I’m thankful my town and surrounding towns are still participating in the spirit of unity, mourning the loss of needless lives, and thanking the police in our community that have, since I’ve lived here anyway, been exactly what they swore to be. Members of the community, and protectors of the community. We did have one place (that I’ve seen) where there was graffiti, but that has been repainted and the surface covered with signs of unity and love.

I live and work in St. Paul, MN. My work is 2 blocks from where the major destruction in St.Paul occurred last week. I have co-workers who live very close - one co-worker is a block away from where the majority of rioting and looting occurred in South Minneapolis.

I'm in a suburb of Las Vegas and things have been quiet here. In the city of LV, the protests have for the most part been peaceful. Sadly we had a police officer shot Monday night and he is on life support in grave condition. In a separate incident on the same night, a protester was fatally shot by police officers. The protester was armed and pointed his weapon at police officers.
Looting has not occurred. There has been some graffiti, but citizens have been out with immediate clean up.
Casinos are still closed (opening tomorrow), so their security forces are not at full capacity yet. I'm so glad rioting didn't occur and casinos weren't targeted.
Last night's protest was peaceful and when it was time to go home, the protesters went home.

I don't live in town but the nearest town has been having peaceful protests and the police chief has been mingling - the police even lent their bullhorn to the protesters
I'm not shocked it was peaceful - I was a little shocked it happened at all though (we're an 80% RED community)

Hope Vegas stays calm! We have looting and rioting in a few cities in the county, but not in my area yet.

George Floyd's entombment will be in my town and the police have already posted online that they are working hard on logistics to keep it peaceful. Someone on Facebook mentioned wanting to do something to honor the family when they drive through so I know people are going to put ribbons all along the streets they will take and if allowed will line the streets paying their respect on the day of.

And my god, some of the videos coming out of the protests are appalling. Instead of helping to diffuse, our PD and SP seems to making things worse when given the opportunities. I've definitely seen same appalling videos and heard even more stories. Not sure how many of these law enforcement people are "bad" and how many are just reacting to severe prolonged stress. Or even bad cops under severe stress. Probably all of the above. Look how quickly tempers can flare on this message board without anyone being hit with fists, flying objects, and COVID laced spit day after day after day. Combine that with mayors and governors telling the police to stand down & just watch criminal activity happen, and you're just priming tempers to flare. (I have no reason to know that's what has happened, just common sense.) You know what would keep the focus on the treatment of George Floyd - and I'm including the original autopsy and everything else that goes with racial discrimination by police and justice - peaceful protests. You know what makes an impact? A bridge full of protesters laying face down for 9 minutes with their hands behind their backs in Portland, OR.

My city is torn apart, as many major cities across the US have been. Several days now, constant sirens, constant explosive boom sounds, helicopters, military craft flyovers, national guard patrolling, curfew, businesses boarded up. Most stores have been looted. Many of our grocery stores are closed because they've been looted and set on fire. Lots of fires throughout the city. Banks have been set on fire. ATMs broken into with explosives. Pharmacies looted, with all the prescription pills gone. Our transit is barely running. Cars are being hijacked. It's like nothing I ever thought I'd live through. I believe we are in the same area. The news is almost surreal. I only go out when I have to, with my adult son, so I’m not alone. We only go out in the mornings.

So far, where I live, the protests have been fairly well-received, as they haven't involved looting and setting fires, just peaceful protests. They did block our major freeway, but they did it peacefully. There are "rumors" that something is planned in the next few days that won't be peaceful though. There are a lot of stores that have been boarded up, and we keep getting alerts for the curfew. Yesterday it started at 5 pm.

Yes. There has been mostly peaceful protests in front of our city's police department. We live about 4 miles from there, so not close to the activity. I haven't heard of any looting or destruction of property thus far. I am hopeful it stays this way.

My city has had several peaceful protests with no issues. 2 stores were broken into and because of our wonderful police force, 2 others were thwarted!
I wouldn't call it civil unrest. Life is happening, we all feel safe.
Big city next to me however and another close by have had huge riot/looting incidents and it is scary there.

I live in a tiny farm town so nothing here. Protests in the closest big city, yes. Some young guy got arrested for some reason at a protest about an hour away from me. He told authorities that he had recently tested positive for COVID (I think he had to say for court?), and he went to the protest despite knowing his diagnosis and being told to stay home (his positive test was verified as true, too, he wasn’t lying). That has been a pretty big story locally.
