I'm in Fort Worth, TX. We've had protests for almost a week, but they've been peaceful.
Ft Worth is about an hour drive away from Dallas, and Dallas has had some problems with protests turning violent. The concern was that some of the people wanting to stir up trouble in Dallas would come to FW.
Sunday night, in Ft Worth there was a stand-off on one of the bridges between protesters and police. Smoke bombs and flash bangs were used to disperse the crowd that was threatening to swarm an area to cause trouble. Because of that, our mayor has us under a curfew, tonight is supposed to be the last night.
I am sorry for those of you who have had violent protests in your cities. I can't imagine how horrifying that must be to watch and experience. Please stay safe. I'm praying for your safety.

My city has had a little bit of everything from peaceful vigils and demonstrations, to gatherings with rioting and looting. Thankfully the rioting and looting hasn't been as severe as in bigger cities, but it is still a little scary since one of the worst nights was at my neighborhood mall. There's been a lot of window breaking followed by tear gas throwing. We've had a curfew, but it doesn't seem to affect much (then again I'm rarely out that late anyway). They needed to start the curfew earlier on the night the demonstration was at the nearby mall because there was so much traffic that seemed to be just driving by and gawking (a few were supporting or antagonizing) but I'm amazed no one got hit by a car.

I'm in a suburb of Los Angeles. Today was supposed to be the day to protest in my city. It was cancelled - because it was clear 2 different BLM groups were clashing. One seemed peaceful, the other wanted to target the 'wanna-be white racist mexicans' and their stores. The planned location (open air mall) has been heavily enclosed since early morning. The end result was a small peaceful protest by our city hall. No stores are very close to city hall - and it's really hot today. So I think my town may have been spared - for today (though there have been small looting attempts over the past 3 days - luckily all attempts have resulted in arrests.)

I live in a small town and nothing has happened here. Towns around us have had some protests and all has been peaceful. My DSD is at one right now in a larger city near here and I'm hoping all remains that way there, too.

Yes, but it has not been as bad as it could be. The media is mostly focusing on LA. We've gotten some coverage but not as much as that's okay. Monday's protest was peaceful and only 7 people were arrested. But some stores downtown in and in other areas were looted/damaged. There was another peaceful protest yesterday, at the local mall and they closed everything early. We just went to Target before they closed at 1pm and went to Costco in another city.

I live in a Chicago suburb. As we all know, Chicago itself is definitely experiencing looting and violence. In my suburb, we're not, though some stores have been closing early in this area.
There are a couple of advertised peaceful BLM protests scheduled in this area for tomorrow afternoon.

I'm in the suburbs of Atlanta. We've had peaceful protests. I saw them on Saturday, but I believe they have met a couple of times because the protest I read about on the next door app was in a different location than what I witnessed.
We did have one guy arrested for breaking into and vandalizing a church with racial & disparaging religious statements. (He is Black, it's a predominately White church, fwiw). I have no idea what the words were - that's how it was described in the paper. Police had a description and citizens turned him in. May be related to the protests, but I don't consider one rogue guy to be civil unrest.

I live in a town of 50,000 and there was a peaceful protest today. Swat was called in when there was a car accident and there was confusion over what was happening. But no arrests.

Yes and I do not live in a big city. We have had four nights so far I believe. Not sure what is going to happen tonight. There are peaceful groups and then when the sun goes down there seem to be splinter groups doing most of the vandalism, trying to block the freeway/highway, and intersections. We've had a curfew and people have been arrested. We are a few blocks from our town square and that is where they usually start. The protesters have marched down the one of the main streets which is 5 houses from us. Last night they came a bit closer. We have had several incidences over recent years of death by police officer so that has also been a focus.

I was surprised to find out that a protest was planned for my city yesterday. The students are not in town, and the general population isn’t what I consider to be the prime protest demographic based on both age and ethnicity.
But they had a great turnout, and there was no violence. Even our head football coach showed up with some of the players who are still around after the end of the spring semester. The police and protesters were respectful of each other for the most part, and a lot of our local politicians were there to listen.
My town is probably the most liberal one in the state due to the university, but I was happy to see so many locals involved independent of the student population.

I live in actual Los Angeles. Not a suburb. It's been constant police sirens and helicopters since Friday night.
I've been hearing sirens even when there are no sirens. My local (6 blocks away) CVS was boarded up. My gas station (1.5 blocks) was boarded up. Grocery store closed early. Curfews of 6pm. Work city curfews of 1pm.
I'll catch myself thinking, 'I'm so tired of this." But then I think, imagine being Black (BIPOC) in America and tell myself to shut the fuck up and listen.

I think it’s actually keeping crime away and into nearby beach cities. Our police department was on the ball even before the National Guard rolled in. We’ve had an uptick in petty crime the last few years and I’m sure those same opportunist criminals are now going hog wild looting in other cities taking advantage of the protests. The reason I like the NG around is for the sole purpose of potential arsonists starting fires here in CA.

I live in Memphis, a city with a history as part of the Civil Rights Movement. By and large the protests have been peaceful, a few arrests of some people being stupid. There have been protest gathering on Beale Street, at the Lorraine Motel where Dr King was assinated, and at or Civil Rights Museum. I saw a video on Facebook that one of my local friends posted of thousands of people, white and POC all gathered together and singing Amazing Grace.
I will say this makes me proud of my city, especially considering the history of racism it has.

I am on the outskirts of a town northwest of DFW. Protests have occurred by the courthouse, but so far they have remained peaceful. Dallas is another issue. There has been a lot of violence and looting in part of Dallas, and black owned businesses are among those that have reportedly been trashed. Fort Worth had protests without violence at first, but it reportedly took a different turn later. It wasn’t as bad as Dallas, though.
There have been protests in grocery store parking lots of the wealthier DFW suburbs. This was in a local paper:
“Local police departments are investigating some unverified anonymous flyers that suggest protestors will loot local stores unless they receive support for their cause. Some residents in the area doubt the flyers’ legitimacy. Highland Village and Flower Mound police said they are working Tuesday to determine who distributed the flyers and if the threat is serious.”

Mostly peaceful protests in front of the Police Department (not a single mask is being worn) and then some thugs who decided to turn random cars over and beat on cars stopped at stoplights. Some spray painting on buildings, etc. No looting that I have heard of.

Obviously Seattle is a different story. I just heard on the radio this morning that anarchists have taken over 7 square blocks in Seattle. One of their demands is that all AA convicts of violent crimes be retried. Is your news covering this? We aren't hearing much about it down here.

Last night First Nations leaders in St. Paul took down the Christopher Colmbus statue at the state capital. THe leader spoke with the head of the state patrol about what they were doing. THe Patrol told the leader that no one would be arrested. The patrol just watched while they did it, then surrounded the statue so it could to loaded onto a truck and taken away. It was beautiful!

I'm in Los Angeles so yes. There were demonstrations about a mile from me. A few broken windows, but from my observation there was no spontaneous looting.
A Verizon store was broken into about 1/2 mile from me. I would be very surprised if there was anything in the store to steal. There was advance notice so the bike store two doors down emptied the entire store. Also the ten car dealerships moved almost every single car off their lots.
The police were not in riot gear. The big story to come out from the demonstration was of a black owned business that tried to flag down police for help and were arrested.
A car was burned and a go fund me campaign raised $30,000 to replace it. Our area is largely considered dull, but it appears we are committed to being a good community for all.

We had two separate protests so far, both well attended and peaceful. I live in a pretty red state, so I was pleased to see how well attended by locals they were.

![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) That is not what the new outlets are reporting. They are literally watching movies and handing out PPE. I mean. However our mayor and police chief are seriously at odds. The police have abandoned the East precinct and the police chief released a 3 minute video to her staff (which of course made it out for public consumption) explaining that she did not support it. I would not be surprised if we have an “interim” police chief very soon :/ I agree with defunding the PD to some extent in a thoughtful way that reallocates those funds into social services. I support BLM 1000%, and I know with that come some things that are very uncomfortable. I don't agree with the mayor and PD just lying down and saying “do whatever you want.” There are supposedly over 500 rental units in the area (plus retail, RT al). Can you even imagine living there during the last 2 weeks? Typing on my phone while waiting for an appt. apologies for typos and thought that may not be sussed out well.

My students who live in the area report it has been quieter and more peaceful since the police left. They are also happy they are no longer being teargassed in their apartments. I mean, while I support defunding police, I don’t think a bunch of private citizens should be able to seize an area of the city permanently, if that is the goal. But it terms of the day-to-day, so far, it seems less fraught (although frankly, I haven’t had any troubles from my office throughout, unless you want to count getting a bunch of angry emails from students when police used one of our university lots as a staging area last week—which ended up in our university president telling them the could not do that again).

No, because I live right outside a city where major protests are occurring. Nothing ever occurs in our city due to our proximity to the big city. Looting occurred the first night, that I believe that has died down. Same. I'm in a suburb of DFW so nothing is happening in my burb other than a very low-key protest march.

Question why it's being spun that way. Anyone who has experience with Seattle's Capitol Hill knows this is all very typical, just dialed up to 15. It's more 70s era, free love, Hippie street party than anything else. It will have its moment, and then people will move on. The hysteria is probably going to just make it last longer.

Here’s a good walk thru of the Seattle area. www.facebook.com/kuowpublicradio/videos/339125643755309/?vh=eThere are multiple groups involved. So, not one clear message on what they want as an outcome. The three main ones that I am familiar with are defund 50% of the police budget, use that for social programs and release protestors.

I kept thinking to myself “to what end?” I get the feeling that these people are more fringe protesters (for lack of better phrasing) than organized BLM protesters. TBH, the area looks eerily similar to our many homeless encampments. :/
