Is the civil unrest occurring where you live?

No, because I live right outside a city where major protests are occurring. Nothing ever occurs in our city due to our proximity to the big city. Looting occurred the first night, that I believe that has died down.

I live in a suburb north of Minneapolis. There is nothing going on in my suburb but there is activity not far away. My daughter lives in St Paul and there have been fires less than a mile from her house.

I chose other... Not in my Podunk town. There was a “protest” organized for this Friday by a “woke” (in her own words) 19 year old. The locals shut that shit down right quick. We don’t mind a peaceful protest but what these peaceful protests are bringing after dark, we don’t need. Looting would devastate this area. It was being advertised in cities 50+ miles away. No reason for that.

My city is torn apart, as many major cities across the US have been.
Several days now, constant sirens, constant explosive boom sounds, helicopters, military craft flyovers, national guard patrolling, curfew, businesses boarded up. Most stores have been looted. Many of our grocery stores are closed because they've been looted and set on fire. Lots of fires throughout the city. Banks have been set on fire. ATMs broken into with explosives. Pharmacies looted, with all the prescription pills gone. Our transit is barely running. Cars are being hijacked.
It's like nothing I ever thought I'd live through.

Not my town, but the city we're a suburb of.

There was a protest attended by several hundred people in my little town of 50K on Sunday afternoon. It was peaceful, but then someone altered the protest poster online to say that looting was to begin at Target at 8pm - the account was linked to a white guy in another city who says he is currently in Afghanistan and his account was "hacked". Target, being proactive, closed at 6pm that evening and boarded up their windows (and the people around here lost their ever-loving minds).
In a neighboring city, the police tear gassed protesters when they didn't disperse after they were told the protest was over on Monday (from the accounts and videos I have seen and read, there was no violence or aggression on the part of the protesters, they simply didn't leave when told to do so).

Even though we a burb of DC, there are civil protests going on here. There was one at our local government center last night and another is scheduled at another local location on Friday. On Nextdoor most local people are welcoming the protests. We are a largely multinational area and white people are the minority numbers-wise, however.

The town I live in, the town I work in, and the town closest to me (so, 3 different towns) have all had peaceful protests. The two major cities closest to me ( Phoenix and Tucson) have both had riots/looting.

We have minor protesting going on at city hall and at the police station in our downtown areal. No looting as of yet, and minor altercations with police one evening when they were told to disperse as someone hurled stuff at the officers, but that was controlled pretty quickly as there was probably no more than 250 present.

Major protests and vandalism/looting in Columbus. Lots of cops, National Guard, etc.
I've had Facebook friends at the protests every day so I've watched a lot of it on live feeds and on the news stations feeds.

It sure is. I live in a western suburb of St. Louis, not far from where the Michael Brown shooting occurred in 2014. Every time there is a police violent incident anywhere in the country, the protesters are out not only in STL, but in the outlying areas as well. I heard there was supposed to be a protest in my city last night, but they didn't talk about it on the news, so either there wasn't one or if there was, it was peaceful. My boss's husband is a policeman in our city, so she keeps us informed.
Monday night, a retired police chief was killed in a riot. So sad...Also Monday night, 4 policeman were shot and injured in STL.

No protests in our small village, however, less than 20 miles away, all heck broke out. National guard has come in to assist. Large town 3 miles away has (so far) only peaceful marches with no issues.

I live in a small city on the way to Yosemite. There is a march planned for today. The fear is outsiders will come and turn the march into something it is not meant to be. Some buildings boarded up windows on the planned route at center of town. Who knows what will happen. We have at the very most maybe about 10 black families living here. Unfortunately there is a large population of rednecks also living here.
I had a dentist appointment this afternoon at 2, they called yesterday saying they were closing the office today be cause of the protest. I kind of laughed the office is no where near the center of town and not on a main road. That’s life in a small city! We will see how it turns out. On top of everything thing else it’s supposed to be 105 here today. That might deter a lot of people.

It's like nothing I ever thought I'd live through. I know what you mean. I lived through it in 2014. My husband and daughter were at a mall shopping that ended up going on lockdown while they were there because protestors stormed the mall. It was a scary day for me. This all seems worse, for some reason. Even my boss who I mentioned in my previous post said this is the first time she has really been scared. I think that people were already so on edge because of the pandemic, and that combined with it being an election year makes it seem worse IMO.

I live in small-town USA (less than 5000 people) nothing ever goes on here.
The two cities I live closest to have had protests, but no riots or looting. The police in one of the towns were out protecting the protesters.

My town has had two very peaceful demonstrations. No looting or violence. The large town near us has had peaceful demonstrations and one or two incidents of looting late at night (not done by any of the protestors).

The sheriff's department, National Guard and fire department are keeping vigil overnight the past few nights because of social media chatter about problems that might be heading our way.

Better be careful speaking out about the devastation and how dire the consequences are for people who were barely surviving COVID.
I've been told multiple times that makes me part of the problem.
I only wish I was kidding. I'm not. People who are at the same time telling me the biggest problem our country has is racism aren't as concerned about how these riots will disproportionately affect people of color, and they have told me this on threads I have made with videos of black women decrying the devastation of their neighborhoods.
At least one of these same people has blacked out their avatar to show that they are "listening."

No. Nothing happens in this teeny town. The town next door and the town across the bridge are well known for their race relation problems. One town is predominantly black and the other predominantly white.
There were protests in one of the towns the other afternoon. They were peaceful. Lots of good things were said. Points were made. Everyone got along. It started at 4, and by 5 it was over. Everyone around here has been very happy with how it well it went-that there was no violence of any kind.

I haven't been told that as I don't post anything even remotely controversial anywhere but here, but I have definitely seen other people raked over the coals on FB. It's all just a mess, and I hope we can get through it and recover.

The protestors have been pretty peaceful. Those looting stores are a different story. Quite a businesses have been broken into and we are under curfew.

Yes and other.
In my actual city there was a "march" of mostly white people showing their support. I think I saw 5 black people in the pictures.
In the city where DH works, several protests, buildings vandalized, windows broken, tear gas, a curfew, etc.

I haven't been told that as I don't post anything even remotely controversial anywhere but here It never occurred to me that could be seen as controversial in any way, shape or form. Especially since I am simultaneously supporting peaceful protesting. (General you used here) You care about the lives of other people or you don't. You care about those who have hard lives or you don't. You care about the poor, the disabled, the desperate or you don't. All the finger-pointing at other people doesn't make you a more caring person. All your hashtags and wokeness doesn't mean anything to the poor woman without transportation who envies those who died of COVID because she now has no way to get food, or medications, mail a letter, or even cash a check.

Yep, we have it all. Peaceful, constructive protests and demonstration, rioting and looting, destruction of local businesses and property, burning in the street, tear gas and rubber bullets, curfews...you name it, we got it. Go Orygun.

I live in a suburb of Oklahoma City. There have been protests every night in Oklahoma City and there has been some looting and violence.
The building housing Oklahoma City's Dress for Success which offers free professional clothing for low income women trying to enter the workforce was intentionally set on fire and destroyed. A medical clinic was looted and damage was done to the Oklahoma City National Museum, which was founded to honor the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing.
