Anyone not see this one coming? The author of "Girl, Wash Your Face" and other gems.... Rachel was great at giving young women advice about how to let your boyfriend treat you like crap, but you should totally be there for that because then he might marry you some day. And how in the world would that not end up as a fairy tale?!

I had to google who she is and still don't really understand how I or why I should know anything about her as she doesn't appear to be that popular.

Sorry I have no idea who she is. I take it she's some sort of "influencer"?
Edited to add; Yup an ex influencer who is now a motivational speaker. Ugh

I love that they had a podcast to teach OTHER COUPLES how to be happy together. Remember, the "influencer" grind is mostly smoke & mirrors.

OMG one of my friends thinks Hollis is all that. She (my friend) is a lovely person but obsessed with labels and has more money than she knows what to do with. She actually signed up for one of Hollis's conference/seminar things (that she was sandwiching in between a trip to Europe and a trip to some tropical place.) I have another friend (are you questioning my choice of friends now?) who is desperately trying to turn her business into a copy of Hollis's. That friend seethes with envy over Hollis's success, believing she is so far superior and has not been able to replicate that level of income. Me? I can't even.

I’ve seen a little bit about her on Facebook. Was kinda annoyed by her delivery because it doesn’t look very authentic to me.

I've read about her books on several scrapbooker and mixed media artist instagrams. So, I picked up her wash your face book at the library awhile back. I was not impressed. Didn't make it through the first chapter. Other than that, I don't know a thing about her. I don't get the hype and worship in regards to her and her books.
Brene Brown also. I didn't make it through her first chapter either. So much whining and complaining about her childhood and life.

I mean, if you’re trying to fake it for your followers, it would be a whole lot easier to do that on IG and FB than live on a podcast.

I am more shocked that she did not call it a conscious uncoupling.

A friend posted about her on FB. I had to look up who she is. I bought my daughter one of her books (Stop Apologizing) but that was only because she asked for it for Christmas. Not sure why, but I'm thinking someone cheated.

I don't know who she is, but divorce is sad even when it's the right choice.
It must be very hard when the success of your relationship is what you built your business on, and all of your private moments have already been sold to the masses.

I was intrigued by her in the beginning and only made it through a chapter or two of her first book. I got tired of them selling themselves every day and figured it wasn't really genuine and all about how much money they could make. She was just plain annoying to me.

They said so right in the divorce note. I don't know who these people are because I'm not influenced by fluff, but it is amazing how many people are!! It is just one more good lesson for all of us to take when we think our lives don't measure up, isn't it? What we see isn't always what is true.

When I take Zoom calls at home, I position myself in the office. It’s generally the cleanest room in the house. I then have to angle the computer so that it does capture the bookshelves, but since my bar is on a double shelf in there, I have to make sure it’s at the right angle so that my other meeting participants aren’t staring at an assortment of scotch bottles.
I assume influencers are like that. You see the one narrow bit of their metaphorical house that is suitable for viewing, but not the rest.

The path to enlightenment — and a happy marriage — the Hollis way "Two-thirds of the way into his self-help bestseller, “Get Out of Your Own Way,” Dave Hollis tells a story about how he became a better husband. His wife, Rachel Hollis — the massively successful self-help guru of the moment — told him that she was pursuing a lucrative deal for her company. Dave scoffed: There’s a 3 percent chance it’ll happen, he told her. Months later, Rachel presented him with “a gift you got me”: a bracelet with a charm reading “3%” stamped on it. She’d landed the deal. “Now that’s a master class in effective passive-aggression. And thank God for that,” Dave writes, strangely triumphant. Passive-aggression can be effective, no doubt. But only in Hollisville will you find somebody who’ll tell you it’s the path to a healthy marriage.... What Dave Hollis lacks in authority he tries to make up for in attitude, adopting a persona as the grown-up frat boy who’s been brought down to earth. Mostly down to earth, anyway. Chapters often open with a boast of some sort: He was “a great baseball player growing up”; he’s negotiated deals that “involved the biggest names in brands and entertainment”; he was “valedictorian at my high school”; he was “a nerd growing up.”... ut Dave’s path to enlightenment usually only requires Dave. The Hollises promote a philosophy of hardcore bootstrapping — there is little that’s wrong with you that can’t be fixed by digging deeper into yourself. That includes problem drinking, which Dave learned to manage after another drill-sergeant lecture from Rachel (“Stop talking about it and start doing something about it. You are in control of your life.”), a home gym, and buddies who “encourage me to drink the crap out of my sparkling water.” " www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/books/the-path-to-enlightenment--and-a-happy-marriage--the-hollis-way/2020/03/20/b05ebb6c-6932-11ea-9923-57073adce27c_story.htmlOoooh, living w/a grown-up self-absorbed frat-boy. What could go wrong??!?!

I just looked there are 98 episodes and the last one posted May 28. She was accused of plagiarizing her book. Not that I would have read hundreds of pages of those crap quote live your dreams love yourself kind of books. Ugg I don't know how people can stand that BS. Half the time they are just talking in big word circles.

Girl...I hope you signed a prenup. From what I remember about her story, her husband's money is what helped propel her into the influencer lifestyle and then the book deals.
But she plagiarized most of her inspirational quotes by simply using someone else's quote and changing the word order up.

Yeah, that. She sells women on the "you can do anything!" mantra. "Just look at l'il old me!" Yeah, "l'il old her" with her Disney exec husband pulling in 7 figures while she event plans, and decorates and "finds herself", until, for some unknown reason, she makes it big.

April 30 IG: "Today on the podcast @mrdavehollis and I are talking about how quarantine has affected our, ahem, “make out sessions”. Yes. We went there. If you’re in a relationship the RISE Together podcast is just for you. Listen in anywhere you get your pods." So either their marriage broke apart at lightening speed OR they've been duping people for a LONG time.

I like how in the announcement she said they have been an “open book” and are now asking for privacy. If they were an open book they wouldn’t have been pretending their marriage was perfect!

But it takes two to tango. There has to be a scammee as well. The people who follow this kind of schlock bear some responsibility as well. In actuality there’s probably no new advice in the world. Just prettier people with fakier lives dishing it out.

Just prettier people with fakier lives dishing it out. I get what you're saying. Sadly, there is new advice in the world - like don't treat a whole class of citizens as "other". But the shtick of the Rachels gets way more oxygen than the stuff we really need to hear (although, fingers crossed, maybe we've finally reached that day). The shtick of the Rachels is pretty and blown-out and crisp and easy-to-look-at. The other advice requires deep introspection, acknowledgement of hundreds of years of wrong-doing, etc. I hope we stop w/the shtick and start with the hard truths that will make the world what it can be.
