I said my piece on the original topic of this thread way back towards the beginning and my assessment has not changed, as more facts have come out they have just supported my initial assessment. So I wasn't planning on commenting further on this, but I just wanted to add a comment from my perspective as a lawyer in case others hadn't thought of this...

I see a few comments along the lines of "he was silent on the issue" "he could've clarified" "he could've issued a public statement" etc.

I'm not disputingthat many people on here wanted a response from him and, despite having made my own assessment, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But there has also been speculation, given Lara's recanting video, that Tim sued her for libel/slander and that the apology video was part of a settlement (or given the short timeline of events, more likely he retained an attorney who threaten her with suit if she did not recant causing the apology video). Early on in the drama he had posted one comment on events, but then when people asked for clarification he was silent on the issue until now, after her apology video. I have no idea what went on behind the scenes, but, if he had hired an attorney to sue her the FIRST thing that attorney would've said is DO NOT PUBLICLY COMMENT ON THIS. He would have been told to go about his business online as if it was not happening, not engage her and not post any comments. Only after a settlement was reached would he, and his team, be free to comment again.

Again, not saying that is what happened or even if there was a lawsuit, or threat of a suit. My only point is, there is a good chance that he did not comment further during the events because he had an attorney telling him not to. Just a thought.

ETA: I don't know that much about PR, although it is relevant to my job it's not my department. But, I do know that once lawyers/lawsuits get involved, the focus switches from PR to preserving your case and, as an attorney, the moment he decided to retain an attorney the attorney would've taken over.

Ahh...some peas never disappoint. I'm not a huge fan of Tim's art style but he'll get my business in whatever items I normally use. I won't fangirl over him and I won't buy anything I wouldn't normally buy (hello sizzix), but I'm not going to stop my distress oxide obsession or love of storage tins or hoarding of watercolor cardstock.

I think this is a lesson in needing to assess what we see online and not accepting it as "fact". I'd like to see more people be held accountable for their words + actions. Lara made some pretty serious allegations, and I hope there are stiff penalties coming her way.
