You all might remember how devastated I was a year and a half ago when my DS attempted suicide. It was the ending of a very dark time in his life and all of you were so kind to me sharing your love, prayers, and support.
Well, he may have hit rock bottom, but he definitely rose to the top. His mood has been incredible since then. He took the GED and passed with flying colors. He started a new job a few months ago at a local ISP and is thriving. He is enrolling in the local community college for fall. Just one class but he plans to continue working full time. He is loving being surrounded by computer geeks at work. He fits right in. And his supervisor has two sons with autism, so he understands my boy really well.
He told me this morning that he is moving out. He and three of his buddies have secured a 4 bedroom student apartment near MSU's campus. I was shocked this morning when he told me. But I'm thrilled for him. I think he is ready to fly. The apartment will be available for move in on 8/17. And the kids are accepting.
The only thing we have left is a drivers license. He goes for his test next Tuesday. And that's it. He's independent. My boy who at one point I felt incredibly helpless about is doing well and getting ready to fly. And I couldn't be more proud of him. I have had tears in my eyes all morning since he told me.
I am just so grateful he has made it to this place. If you rewound the clock 3 years, I had very little hope we'd get here. But here we are. I feel like I am at the end of a marathon.

We need a "love" button. Like just isn't strong enough.
I'm so very happy for you and your son!

That's a lovely post to read on this icky raining morning! It sounds like things are falling into place for him. The job sounds excellent because a job is where we spend most of our time, not school (especially if he's only taking a few classes at any one time)... If you have compatible colleagues it makes getting up and out the door in the morning that much easier. And... now the two main questions... can he cook, and does he do laundry? lol...

can he cook, and does he do laundry? Yes and yes! He's an extremely picky eater, so I taught him to cook early on. He can make all the things he enjoys eating. And in my house when you turn 12, your laundry gets turned into your own responsibility. I am definitely not worried about him taking care of himself.

This will probably be my favorite post that I read today. I am so very happy for you, but more importantly for your son. It has not been an easy road but he has persevered, worked hard, and has flourished. I wish him nothing but the best on his life journey.
