I am so so happy for you both jeremysgirl! And I know exactly how proud you are feeling right now. You probably know that my DD is also autistic and was suicidal for many years. Well, at the beginning of July she drove 400 miles south (having only held her licence for a few weeks), to move in with her fiancée. I wish someone could have told me when she was 18 that within 7 years she wouldn’t just still be alive, but also thriving and happy. I’m sending you hugs and high fives right now! You got there!  |

I remember your story well and my heart broke when I read your post. I, too, have a son who is ASD. I'm glad you're son is coming out of that dark place! You have every reason to be proud.

lesley I'm glad to hear that your DD is on the right path. It really feels good to see a kid with so many obstacles succeed. High fiving you right back! My DD is still floundering. I'm actually hoping she will move back in with me and will take some time to get her mental health in check. She is not reacting really well right now to her brothers news. But she hasn't done the work he has to overcome her mental illness so I've told her that she has to get the professional help she needs. And I that I will lend any support I can just as I did with him.

I seriously wept at this news. I cannot say how great an update this is because it is every parent's dream that something like this will happen when your child is at rock bottom.

He hasn't come as far as your son, but we're hoping he's on the right path too. He has a long way to go though. ((HUGS)) to you!! and to your son.

I am almost in tears for you!!! What an amazing update. I know what it’s like to be in that pit of little hope, and I am so proud of you and your son for making through to the other side.
I know a lot of people don’t have day-to-day contact with people with disabilities or mental health challenges, and I don’t fault them for not understanding how incredibly dark and difficult it is—especially for moms.
You have my utmost respect, and you are both heros for making these positive steps. Yea for you!! And yea, yea, YEA for your son!!
