Janet Evanovich's Plum Spooky is funny. Thanks for the reminder, it can be part of my book. I haven't read this series, but can this be read as a standalone? Thanks! Yes, it can. She does a pretty good job with each book of including a basic introduction.

Reminder that Netflix is helping us ease into the scary season by releasing the first season of Ratched in September and part 1 of season 5 of Lucifer later this week (already, eep)!

I love-LOVE-loved the first season (or, you know, 'part' as Netflix likes to call it in this case). I still really enjoyed season 2. Season 3 was no bueno and painful to sit through. They went down the Riverdale fuckuppery route and I noped out of there (but still finished the season part). The fourth installment will be the final one and I really don't mind. They sabotaged this show. Here's to hoping they manage to salvage some of what made The CAOS fun and so engaging at first. Also, the acting from the young'uns doesn't get better. The actor playing Nick Scratch surpasses the others by far, here's to hoping he gets to break out elsewhere on Netflix. The adults, however, are a pure delight. Sabrina's aunts are everything, every little crumb of a thing. Obviously, I answered assuming you hadn't watched it. Apologies if you already have and didn't need any advice! (If so, what did you think of it?) I think the first two seasons are a definite must to get in the Halloween spirit.

Along with movies for October, does anyone have ideas for books? I don't read horror, but don't mind creepy. Thanks for any suggestions. I liked this book by Wendy Webb. I also read this one but didn't like it as well. It was still a decent read.

I've seen some of Lucifer and oh my Satan is hot! I thought of another ghost movie that is quite different The Ghost and Mrs. MuirIt's one of those movies that when I see it on my DirecTV guide in October, I'm sucked in and watch. Really not spooky in the least but it might have been in 1947!

I liked the casting, because they all looked perfectly like the comics, except Ambrose, obviously. I still love Riverdale, as ridiculous as it is, I just love it. I do appreciate all the nods to the comics they toss in, and again the casting is perfect. The kids look just like the comics, except the boys are better looking. Jughead even has the bigger teeth of the old comics. I don’t know what happened to season 3 of Sabrina, it was so disappointing, I wonder if they will be able to fix season 4? I was just curious what you thought as I don’t know anyone irl who watched it, besides my husband. I hope Lucifer doesn’t disappoint, although I will watch no matter what.

It is a must watch, especially with what is happening in the US. It is amazing and so weird to see sweet Matlock as such a Machiavellian character.

Oh yay, a fellow CAOS fan (well, pre-season 3, that is )! I'm so glad they managed to do justice to your experience of the Archie comics (I've been reading them on my Kindle lately). I'm foolishly hoping for a turn-around for the final season. Who knows? We might get lucky. I thought it was pretty uncharacteristic for Netflix to change course so significantly for an in-house production. Fingers crossed now. I might actually rewatch the first couple of seasons as a build-up for Halloween! I don't think Lucifer will disappoint. Season 4, albeit far too short, was good. Netflix cleaned it up and reinjected a strong narrative into the show after taking it over. With Lucifer's twin coming to earth and playing imposter, it looks like season 5 will be another fun one with a good storyline to keep us guessing and watching. Did you hear about Tom Ellis finally signing for season 6 earlier this year? I love that we'll end with 6 seasons for the Devil's story... Since you like shows with young adults like Riverdale and the spookier stuff, did you catch Vampires on Netflix during spring? It's a French Netflix production but it's worth the subtitles. I thought it was pretty good and added a nice, new flavour to the usual vampire theme.

I don’t mind subtitles but for some reason on Netflix they are about a size 4 font which means one of us has to be near the tv and reading for the other! They are normal sized on other things, I don’t know why Netflix is so weird. I also didn’t know they had Archie comics on a kindle, I have a stack of my old digests and I break them out from time to time. They are pretty entertaining.

Go to your 'Account' and pick the profile you wish to modify the subtitles for. In the roll-out menu, you'll see 'Subtitle appearance'. Click that and modify to your heart's/eyes' desire! You're probably stuck on the small font size (small, medium, large). You can also change other aspects like the actual font and drop shadow to suit your vision best. Let me know if you can figure it out...

Another great classic ghost story, delightfully spooky and romantic but not gory/scary, is The Uninvited. It still gives me chills after all these years. The Uninvited

Spiritfarer is now out on Steam for PC, Switch and Xbox, gamers! It's an indie game in which you are Stella, a girl who's taking spirits to the afterlife, and focuses on death and the importance of making memories with loved ones before you, too, pass on. If you like cosy management games à la Animal Crossing but would like to try something centered around life and death, this could be your thing. Early reviews are raving about it. Just another little something to get you in the Halloween spirit without all the fright...

Anyone in need of a family portrait idea for October?... Hmmm. I do have a photo of my son with my entire family where he looks like he's going to murder his grandmother because she won't save him from the torture of being in a room with a bunch of people close together. Then there's the look on my great niece's face of a forced smile, like oh no, he's coming for me next. I could totally do a creepy Halloween spin.

I have a silicone mould to make small Día de Muertos skull chocolates and it's my favourite Halloween thing... I'm a simple woman. I see something skull-y, I want it.

For you cat lovers (tagging Skellinton ), this cute image (by Tiina Menzel) popped up on my Pinterest feed and would make for a lovely Project Life card/DIY die-cut: I also thought this was a very clever twist on the good ol' pink flamingo garden décor for those who like to DIY: ETA: Tiina Menzal has an online shop filled with gorgeous skeleton + cat goodies!

I am looking at skeleton flamingos at the giant store named for a river and spotted this important Q&A: "Is the zombie flamingo truly alive, ie: does it have a thirst for flamingo flesh, or is it just plastic? Answer: Well, Todd, I have it on poor authority that at night it searches for pink plastic flamingo brains, but as the pink species has migrated by the end of October, the zombie flamingos give up on nutrition and just go into hibernation on November 1st until their hopes are rekindled by the approach of next year's Halloween."
Someone also asked if they come in a coffin box. They do not.
I might buy two classic pink ones in memory of our late neighbor and a pair of skeleton ones to keep them company... probably not. but maybe.
