What does your cafe offer? There is nothing at the one near me that I would go out of my way to eat. I don't know why but I like their pizza (plus it's super cheap). I mean, when I'm in the mood for junk food. It is oddly delicious, and it's hard to beat $2.50 for a gigantic slice of pizza and enormous fountain soda!

Here you have to show your Costco card to buy anything behind the counter at the pharmacy. You always need to show your card to the greeter and when checking out. Otherwise they will ask you. It's their job. Maybe for things like Sudafed that pharmacies typically keep behind the counter, but you can absolutely have a prescription filled at Costco without being a member, even in Canada.

It's also just convenience, there's one very close to the movie theatre we go to so it's an easy place to grab food after a movie. LOL. I think their food is pretty decent for a cheap and quick bite too. And if you are a Costco member, the one in Plano has THE most delicious freshly made gelato. I wish the one in my town had that. I'll eat there quick if I'm shopping there, but it's not someplace I would go just to eat. I was just wondering if certain stores have better food or more options.

Currently, I have a membership at both Sam's and Costco. At both stores you can go in and use the pharmacy without being a member. There have been times when I haven't gotten my card out and just said that I was going back to the pharmacy. I've not had a problem.
There are two Sam's Clubs that I've shopped pretty regularly and both of them require that you show a card upon entry unless you're going to the pharmacy.

Really? I tried to buy some T1s behind the counter and they wanted to see a card. I am not a member but my friend is and she had to show her card. Weird eh? Maybe it's just my store? They weren't obnoxious or anything. They just said can I see your card, please? She showed hers, she had to pay (they won't accept money from a non-member) and off we went. Odd eh?

Where I am located Sudafed (behind the counter stuff) isn't available unless it's generic. The pharmacy said they couldn't get it in stock so I had to buy the generic. I had never taken it before until I started sneezing and couldn't breathe not that long ago and O M G it totally cleared up any congestion I had. That stuff is the BEST ever! I would never have believed it was that good but it works so well!!!

Yeah, you can't just purchase stuff from the pharmacy department. You have to be filling an actual prescription. But it's not the worst place in the world to wait for a prescription with all the samples around the store Too funny about the Sudafed. I remember taking it when I was pretty young but my little brothers were never given any type of OTC medication, ever, growing up. One of my brothers visited me last year and he was dealing with the same stuff you were. I finally convinced him to just take a Sudafed. Thirty minutes later he was like, "Where has this miracle been all my life??"

I wouldn't know, because I always make sure to have mine out before I walk in the front door. It IS a membership club, after all. Why shouldn't I be expected to show my membership card? I agree. We have both Sam's and Costco and we have to show our card at each place.

Our Sam's used to always ask to see the card on entering but I've noticed they aren't asking any more. I found it annoying but always complied when asked. I started just walking in without showing my card and not one greeter has questioned me about it for a few years now.

At my Costco, you absolutely have to show a card. They check every single person.
I was at a Sam's Club this weekend, just to check it out, and people were just walking in without cards. It was also a major zoo with people and carts and crap everywhere. I won't be back.

I've never not shown my card at Sam's. Now, granted, the guy just barely glances at it, but you won't get in the door without it. I don't see what the big deal is.

No Sam's here, just Costco. I just dig it out of my purse before I get out of my car. I have never had any problem showing it. I figure it is a membership club and pretty much any other membership clubs I have heard of, you have to show you are a member to actually get in the door. Its just not something I ever considered to be that big of a deal.

We only have a Sam's. I always show my card, I've never tried to enter without showing it. Maybe next time I'll try and see how hardcore our greeters are.

I go to Sams club about once a week. There is a revolving schedule of three different greeters. Two of them ask me if I have a Sams Club card as I walk in the door. I say yes and they say have a great day. There is one greeter (all the greeters are 65+) who asks if I have a card and when I say yes, she tells me I have to pull it out and show her. Every time. Are you forced to show your card when you walk in the door? Every other Sams I go to you don't pull out your card til you pay, they don't even ask. Shame on me, but I was really rude to her today. I was in a major hurry (not her fault) and she made a huge deal about me having to show her my card and I called her a Sams Nazi and kept walking while she kept calling after me. (No judgment necessary, I'm already embarrassed by my actions, and I'm coming clean in a public forum). Just wondering what your Sams does..is it policy, or is it just her? You do realise that the person (65+) could have been involved in WW2, the war that brought the world to it's knees and brought much freedom to this world.
Calling this person a Sams Nazi is incredibly rude and disrespectful. This person is still your elder and deserves your respect. Do you realise that this person is simply following rules of their employment.
Just because you haven't been asked every time, it is quick and easy to pull the card from your wallet before you leave your car.
You were very rude and very disrespectful to a store employee. This is the type of rudeness that is discussed on this board.
And yes, you should be judged, you must apologize to that employee, the sooner the better simply coming clean in a public forum is not enough.
Being busy and a bit behind schedule (Your problem) is absolutely no reason to be so nasty and rude to a store employee.

It never occurred to me to not show my card when entering. I dig it out of my wallet before I get out of the car, show it, then put it in my pocket so it'll be handy at checkout.
I'm a little surprised at the number of people who are annoyed at having to show their membership card at a membership store.

I always pull my card out of my wallet and have it in my hand upon walking into Sam's or Costco. Sometimes there isn't even a person maning the door, but I'm ready to flash my card if there is. It's not really a big deal to me I guess.

I walk right by the greeters without acknowledgement. I am rarely, if ever, stopped by them and get irritated when I do. I have no interest to be stuck in the glop of people around the front door who can't figure out how the hell to get in or out of the store. So I walk in with purpose. I also do not want to be saddled with whatever flyer they are handing out at that time. \
That said, your comment was inappropriate.

To me it's not a big deal to show my card and I don't understand wanting to make a statement by refusing to show it. I'm not singling you out OP, because you admit that your reaction was wrong and are clearly remorseful -- although I'd definitely search out that employee and apologize next time you see her.
But for anyone else who not only refuses to show their card, but are proud of it, how would you feel if that was your mother or father working at the entrance of a Sam's Club, Costco or whatever? Would you be ok with them being treated with such blatant disrespect when they were just trying to hold down a job and do as they were instructed?

If you know they ask Every Time, why not be ready?
We Peas can be a prickly bunch, can't we? We're probably pretty nice IRL and come here to vent, or on this case confess and compare-..so I'm not really slamming you OP.
Neither our Sam's or Costco ask at the door. I've had Sam's longer and the early morning greeters recognize me. I've only seen them ask during the early business hours.
But I get my card and credit card ready Before I go in the store. I don't want to have a cartload at checkout, only to find out my card is missing.

My BFF has a membership and she gets so pissed when they ask her for a card when she walks in the door. I go with her all the time and she always just keeps walking and she's never been followed or stopped or anything. Most of the time they don't even ask though. Her reasoning is that you have to be a member to buy anything. They scan your card before they will check you out. But you don't need to be a member to just go inside and look around. I don't know if there are official rules about that but honestly it makes sense to me. Yes! You don't have to be a member to be inside, so why do they need to see your card at the door? It's so stupid.

There are a lot of things I get worked up about. Showing a membership card that I chose to purchase when I enter that store isn't one of them. Honestly it never even occurred to me not to have it in my hand when I enter the store. If it bothered me or was a PITA I simply wouldn't purchase the membership or shop there. I'm just curious as to why you have such a strong opinion about purposefully not showing your card to enter. I don't even have a membership there, but to me it seems silly and redundant. In order to purchase anything (except for food in the cafe like I mentioned above) you have to actually scan your card to start the transaction. Also checking your card at the door just seems redundant to me. A waste of employee labor. If they are checking your membership (and actually verifying it in the computer - that it's you and it's paid/up to date) at the register, why have someone "check" it (just waving it at them when it could be expired or not yours or fake) at the door? I think they do it to keep more people out who are likely to shoplift.

You are not required to have a Sam's Club membership to 1. Buy food to eat in the store at the deli. 2. Buy from the pharmacy, that is use their Rx service. 3. Buy alcohol.
So next time this 'Hard Core' person asks, just tell them you are there for one of the above reasons.

I always have to show my card at Sam's, although they don't really check them - I think you could wave any card you have at them and they'd let you in.

I always pull my card out on the way inside and wave it as I walk though. I don't know what would happen if I didn't show it. Half the time though, I can't remember where I stuffed it by the time I get to the register.

You have to present your card at checkout anyway, so why not just have it ready when you walk into the store? I always pull mine out before I go in (partly to make sure I have it with me!)
Being rude to and older lady just doing her job? SMH.

I always have my card ready. I going to need it to check out so it really isn't an inconvenience to have it ready. You know how it just takes that one rude person to ruin your day? I try not to be that person and would feel terrible if I were rude to someone who was just trying to do their job.

Throwing a fit and being ugly to a little old lady who's just doing her job? Over something that was totally your fault? Yeah, I'm judging. My MIL worked as a Walmart greeter for a while after FIL died. She shouldn't have had to put up with people like you. If you don't want to follow the rules that you agreed to when you voluntarily purchased your membership, then go shop somewhere else.

What does your cafe offer? There is nothing at the one near me that I would go out of my way to eat. Our Costco has pretty decent food, all reasonably priced. They have a chicken & bacon baked sandwich that is really good, a turkey sandwich on ciabatta type rolls that we like and of course the giant hot dogs and pizza that DD likes. Sometimes we go there for dinner first before shopping there just so we won't fill up the cart with a ton of impulse junk food we really don't need.

I don't have a Sam's membership anymore just Costco, and you do have to show your card to get in. I'm sure it is for a variety of reasons - so non-members aren't in there price shopping, or taking up the time of workers with questions; to keep competitors from price shopping, to avoid backups at the registers if a member doesn't have a card, or if a non member tries to make a purchase. Plus, that place is crowded enough with members! Not sure why you got your panties in such a twist about it, you have the card, you know they want to see the card, take the damn card out before you get out of the car!
