I'm SO sorry, but I fully understand it! DH has a cousin who is normally carefree, hilarious and sweet. This whole Trump era has turned him into a really ignorant idiot and it makes me sad. I used to take the time to (nicely!!!) pull truthful sources and add it to his Facebook posts when he'd go off on a brainwashed "repeat this" moment. I'd encourage him to STOP and just take in as many real sources as he can, and site them when he posts so we all can check them. (He hated that--it's so much easier for him to just repost a crazy post that makes NO SENSE!).
It's as though his entire personality was taken over and he entirely believes this new party. I'm hesitant to even refer to it as the Republican party, because it's not. It's something new and horrible. I'd never directly call him an idiot. I'd never label any party as being to blame, except for the Trump movement.
He just made a long post about a distant relative of his (who has just gone thru chemo/cancer, and now just a few months later she has it again!!!) because she finds it too difficult to read his Enquirer-like posts and ignore them. He was quite cruel. I've just about had it..........
If people posted about other things in addition to this political crap, it would be so much easier to maintain some kind of relationship, but when they're posting so many whack-a-doo Trumpie posts, it makes it almost impossible. I"m SO sorry that you're crying your heart out, but sometimes it's just too difficult for us to wade thru their words and ignore them!

Most of the Trump supporters I know have always been that way and I’ve steered clear as much as possible. I know people who were your standard Republicans or libertarians who seemed to have pivoted into crazy-land - believing Qanon crap and viewing Trump as their personal savior. I don't understand it. I don't understand what they are looking for because their connection with reality in believing that Tom Hanks is running a cabal of pedophiles is tenuous at best. ^^THIS^^ The Trumpie/Qanon crap is separate from longstanding Republican or conservative beliefs. This is more of the party of Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh and other moronic, insane people. It's VERY hard to gloss over it or to try to figure out how our friends and relatives went down this path. I'd feel the same way if friends or relatives stumbled into Scientology, but this is far worse. This is dangerous and I wish it would end. |

I can respect those with different political beliefs. But I cannot respect racists, and some of my friends’ responses to BLM have been illuminating for me.
I am distancing myself from long-time friends and that hurts, but I don’t see any way to pretend that I don’t know what I now know.

Politics is policies, trade deals etc etc but this is basic core human values. Would you remain friends with someone who committed say, murder? No, well then, that’s your line in the sand. For others supporting a leader who is so openly racist, homophobic etc etc is theirs. And actually, it shows a great deal of maturity to stick to your values even when it means parting ways with someone dear. |

We have to let people be who they are going to be and love them anyway. We can’t give Trump and the media power to bring pain and suffering to our lives, to our friends, to our families. Trump’s not here. The media isn’t here. Let’s turn off the TV and live our lives how we want to live them. We can’t let them destroy our relationships. We have to love each other despite the differences. In our differences there is power. We can’t all be the same. We can’t all think the same. We don’t want a world where everyone is similar and group thinks. Let’s let politics go when it comes to relationships.These vultures are only after our money and they will do and say anything to get it. They don’t care if we suffer pain or deception or heartache. We have to be able to turn the knob off and do what’s best for us. Screw them. Thing is, Trump is bringing pain and suffering to the lives of some of my friends and family members. I just dont need that in my life and you dont either. Stay strong and know that when the divider in chief is gone ... relationships may come back, and some may not. Im ok with it. I hope you are too.
