This is a serious question and is not meant to sound snarky... Why would people not wear a mask at drive up picking up window? Even though you are outside the worker is often leaning out to you to accept cash, get your credit card or hand you credit card machine. Therefore they are getting relatively close to you and would have done exposure to your germs. These people are often low income and have no choice but to work. Is it fair to expose them all day long (even though risk is relatively low)? To answer your question, I put on my mask after getting out of my car at store. I usually wear mask at gas station unless it’s empty. 1. When I get up to the store. If there is a line, before I get to the line. Basically before I approach people. 2. No. 3. No. As to the above question, drive thrus in my area have all put up Plexiglas covering the top half of the window and most of them have moved the card reader outside the window. I'm not coming in contact with the cashier. Also, at grocery pickup, the delivery people have stopped coming to the window. They talk to me through the trunk (I drive an SUV) and ask if they can 'sign for me.'

I usually wear mask at gas station unless it’s empty. People don’t lean out the window anywhere I go, they just stick their arm out and I stick my arm out. Two arm spans is close to six feet. Plus, most drive thru windows have an air curtain between the window and the outside. The only drive thru I really go to is Starbucks and their corporate policy is customers are not required to wear a mask in the dt. They even advertise the dt as an alternative accommodation for people who don’t want to or can’t wear a mask. I stick my hand out of the window slightly with my phone in it, the employee scans it from fairly far away, they put everything I ordered in a basket and stick the basket out the window. We’re pretty close to 6 feet apart the whole time.

I usually put mine on either in the car or just after I get out.
I don't while pumping gas because it's outside and for a short time so not likely to be around any one person any length of time to infect them and vice versa. That said I doubt I have pumped gas more than once or twice since this began. I rarely go anyplace and don't use much gas and when I do need it, dh usually goes and fills up for me when he washes my car.
Same for drive thrus. It's for a quick second and fresh air is involved.
I don't usually wear it outside unless it's a very crowded space and I might be in one spot for a longer length of time. This weekend we went out of town and went to a downtown shopping area. It was packed, so I wore my mask, especially as we were in and out of stores.
ETA I use hand sanitizer very liberally after any interaction at a store, pumping gas, before eating etc along with washing hands whenever a sink is available.

1. Right before I walk in 2. No 3. No Same for me. Sometimes I wonder why people put their masks on when they are walking down a country road with no one around.

Close to when I walk in. Not *at* the door though. I sanitize my hands before and after (I keep my masks in a sealed ziploc bag between use) and I have a small hand sanitizer attached to my keys.
Yes, because I never pay at the pump.
No, not in drive thrus.

1 - In the car. It is just easier to get it on then instead of fussing with it while walking. 2 - Yes 3 - Yes. This is partly out of courtesy to the worker and also many drive-throughs here ask that you wear your mask (Starbucks and Panda to name two).

1. As I get towards the door 2. Yes because I usually go into the kiosk to pay 3. Can't remember the last time I did any sort of drive through but I don't think I would.

I put on my mask before I exit the vehicle and take it off when I get back in.
I wear it pumping gas.
I wear it when I get to the drive thru window but not when ordering (no person, just a machine)
I put on my mask after I check in for a curb side order and take it off after I close my window.

When going into a store, I put it on halfway between the car and the store. No people are right around me, so no reason to be miserable when I’m outside.
No to wearing it while pumping gas, again I’m not right near anyone else and I’m outside.
No at the drive through, pretty much all places have a plexiglass sneeze guard panel over the top of the window now and there’s “outdoors” between the driver and the cashier.

When I put it on depends on if there are people around. If there are, I put it on before I exit the car. If nobody is around, I wait until I get closer to the door.
I seldom get gas anymore since I'm not really going anywhere, but no, I don't wear a mask to pump gas but I do wear gloves. Although now that I think about it, I haven't gotten gas since the mask mandate went into effect so I probably would now.
I haven't been in a drive through but I would wear one if I did go through one.

I go to the grocery store by underground train, and masks are required there, so I put my mask on as I enter the UBahn station. My supermarket is directly above the station where I get off the train, so I keep it on as I walk into the store, while I shop and back to the train. I take it off when I exit the station near my home.
I don't drive, so no opinion on pumping gas or going through a drive through.

Before getting out of the car, yes while pumping gas. I’ve never been to a drive-thru in my entire life, but if I did use them, I would wear a mask.

I put mine on in the car (and take it back off when I get back in the car - not as I leave the store)
I don't drive so no pumping gas for me.
And for drive-thrus - I don't usually but I'm also in the passenger seat and thus not especially close to the drivethru window/worker

In the car Yes when pumping gas Yes when using a drive through (well, we don’t have drive throughs where I am, but I do wear a mask when stopping for the guards onto base or if I’m doing a pickup and someone is bringing something to my car.
Here, there are certain high traffic areas where we must wear a mask when outside. It’s mostly in shopping or tourist areas of cities. The thing is that life happens and it’s unlikely that you will think to put a mask on in an emergent situation, even if you are pro mask. And it can be as simple as seeing a friend and stopping to talk.

I put mine on in the car before going into the store.
I usually buy my gas at Costco and there are always people around so I do wear a mask.
Absolutely I wear a mask at the Starbucks drive-thru or any drive-thru, for that matter.

Dh & I were just discussing this yesterday. I always put mine on before and he waits until he gets out of the car. Drives me insane for some reason.
We always wear them in a drive-thru.
It depends on how close anyone is to me whether or not I'll wear a mask while pumping gas.

I put my mask on in the car.
I have worn my mask while pumping gas, but it was because I was right next to my daughter’s ex-boyfriend’s dad and I didn’t want him to recognize me.
I usually wear it in drive-thrus as well.

I had a grocery pick up yesterday that was taking forever, so I had a lot of time to observe people coming and going. My first question is, when you are going to a store, when do you put on your mask? I, personally, put mine on before I even get out of the car, but most people I saw waited until they got right by the door of the store. I also had to get gas, so my second question is, do you wear your mask when pumping gas? Finally, do you wear your mask when going through a drive through- like Starbucks?I was just curious what everyone’s thoughts were. I will continue to do what I am doing (wearing my mask in all these instances because it doesn’t bother me to wear my mask) but I am wondering what conventional wisdom is on this. 1. Before I get out of my car 2. yes 3. yes We've been in full mask mode since March here in Connecticut. Our numbers are super low and I don't want to jeopardize it. Perhaps it's superstitious, but I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

1) Before I get out of the car 2) Not when pumping gas if nobody else there, if others around then yes 3) Yes for drive thru -- my county requires the workers do it, so I wear mine too out of respect for them

I put mine on before I get out of the car because my hands are free and it’s easier. Also so I don’t forget. I do take it off about halfway to my car. By then I’m usually in a full hot flash I haven’t put gas in my car in months, dh does since I don’t need it very often. Drive thru, no.

1. Before I get out of my car 2. My husband gets my gas but if I were to pump it I probably would not wear a mask since I am outside and more than 6 feet from anyone else 3. I have not been to a drive thru since March but I would wear it Just doing my part to stay healthy and keep everyone around me healthy. We are doing so well in my little area of the world and I hope it stays that way. Plus my husband is a major germophobe.

I put-on my mask before I enter any building. Typically as I'm walking from my car to the entrance. I do not were a mask outside when I will not be within 6 feet of anyone which includes walking through a parking lot, on my walk through my neighborhood, pumping gas. I don't wear a mask to pick up an order from a drive through.

Somewhere between the car and the door. No to your other 2 questions. I’ll wear it as long as it’s required but not a second longer then necessary. I completely agree with this. I'm so worried about romanticizing mask wearing which is why I won't buy a "cute" mask to match an outfit. I wear a mask because I don't want to have a confrontation and because I'm a rule follower (for the most part). There is no way that breathing our own carbon dioxide all day is healthy. I worry about my six year who has to wear one everyday, even during PE and recess. I want to cry when I think about it. I wonder what the long term effects will be for our children who are now used to not seeing smiles and expression and aren't allowed to touch one another. DS's teacher doesn't know his smile. It's heartbreaking. I'm really not trying to be snarky, but you realize this is just not true, correct? Doctors and Nurses and other medical personal wear masks all day, everyday, for many more hours that "school hours" and are just fine. The whole CO2 argument is a myth. I put my mask on before I get out of the car. I wait till I'm back at my car to take it off. I do grocery pick up and put my mask on when my groceries are coming because inevitably, even though I have the back of my car open (SUV, so they can easily talk to me from there), they want to come right up to my window and talk to me. I put my mask on (and wear gloves) when I pump gas. It's the only place I wear gloves though. I put my mask on when I'm going to be at the window of a drive through. Though the only drive through I've been through in 6 months is Starbucks a hand full of times. ' Overly cautious, maybe. But it's what I feel good about doing for myself. I do the same. I don't find it overly cautious. I also wear it outside, if my brother is over. He is doing work outside on my house and can't remember 6'. Bless him, he tries!

1. Before I get out of the car. But it comes off the minute I'm out of the store. By then I can't stand it anymore. 2. Not unless someone else is closeby. Usually I pick a pump away from everyone, but have only had to buy fuel twice since March. I'm not driving much. 3. I don't use the drive through. The one time I went to Chick Fil A, I parked in the parking lot and they brought it out and put it in my truck. No contact at all.
Maryland has a low rate too, and I'd like to keep it that way, so I'm doing what I can!
