I put it on in the car or just as I get out of the car. If it is a little breezy I feel happy. If it is still and crowded I feel more wary.
When I get gasoline it is deserted and breezy. If it was crowded I would wear it.
When I drive thru I order, put on a mask and try to air out my car before getting to the window. I use hand sanitizer after touching things others touch, like my credit card or the food bags, gas pump. I approach life as if I have asymptomatic covid every day and try not to spread it! I assume a few people I walk by unknowingly have it too. I don't feel terrified just alert. (If I had a fever or symptoms or known exposure I would NOT go out)

If I’m going into a store I will put my mask on before getting out of my car. Then I usually leave it on until I am back in my car and I have hand sanitized. Unless the parking lot is pretty much empty, or I am feeling very claustrophobic (which almost never happens), then I take it off as I am walking to my car.
I do not wear it at the gas pump. I feel like everyone is 6 feet apart, and outside, so it is “safe” to do so.
I do not wear it through the drive thru windows. I don’t think it is necessary.

I put my mask on in the car and due to the regulations in my city we are required to wear masks while pumping gas if others are around and at the drive thru when you get to the window to pay/pick up your food. There’s signs indicating such. All of this is what I do.

My DIL who works at Starbucks says the baristas really appreciate people wearing masks in the drive through. That makes me feel better, it isn’t like I go through drive thrus very much, I usually use the mobile app. When I went through the other day it did seem like we were awful close and the guy in front of me was practically half out of his window talking to the barista without a mask which is what prompted the question.

It is interesting to me that so many of you don’t get gas or haven’t since March. I have only been a few times, and I am the one who is doing the errands in our house since I help with kids a few days a week and take stuff to my mom’s house, but still that is a long time to not need any gas.
I will continue doing what I do, despite some weird looks, but thank you for all your answers.

1. Before I get out of my car (too much of a pain to fiddle with it coming up to the door) 2. Not when pumping gas. 3. Not when going through any drive-thru. ETA: Where I live in Ohio the whole mask situation it is such a HOT mess. No one wants to wear a mask. A LOT of people refuse to wear them. I would say if I'm sitting outside of any grocery store around here (Walmart, Meijer, Kroger) and watch people coming and going, there is probably a good 30-40% of people that do not wear masks. I walked into our UPS Store and none of the employees wear them. Gas station employees (Speedway) don't wear them and customers going in don't wear them. There are several other places I have walked into where employees are not wearing them and customers do not wear them. I sat outside the gas station the other night (while my sweetie went in and paid...and wore a mask!) and counted 13 people going in and there was only one lady wearing a mask and she was elderly. If you wear one, you're called a sheep. I choose to wear one! Interesting, I’m in Ohio also, at our Speedway the employees wear masks and have asked customers to get a mask on when in store. I stop there 1-2 a day and have only seen 2 people come in without a mask and they were asked to put one on and I go when it’s busy. At the groceries stores I’d say about 99.5% of the people have a mask on

I will put it on before I get out of the car but I sometimes remove it before I get back in the car while walking through the parking lot.
I do not wear it when pumping gas but the station I use rarely has more than one person at a time pumping.
I do wear it through drive throughs. I'm less than 6 feet away from the person in the window.
I think a lot of it depends on where you live and which direction you lean. I'm in Northern California so masks are taken a little more seriously here. Plus with all the smoke, they help. I saw fewer folks with masks on when I was in Arizona this summer, even when AZ was the national hot spot. Different leanings and a governor that won't take masks seriously.

But if I wait til I get to the drive thru window to put on my mask, won't all the droplets I spewed while waiting in the line waft out of the cab of my car, and into the drive thru window? Isn't my unmasked vehicle FULL OF the DROPLETS that I emit as I drive along? Don't the droplets WAFT?!?!?
