We just finished watching. DH is almost ready to quit watching because of the way the alliance took over the season. It just isn't fun any longer. I find the boyfriends incredibly snarky and hope they come in 3rd. CBS should change their rules or they will lose a lot of viewers in future seasons. JMHO.

I was really hoping Gary and Deangelo would pull off a miracle and find the combination so they could win this leg. They've been one of the teams I hoped would make the final, and while I've generally been ambivalent about the alliance, I thought it was playing dirty to team up the way they did.

When this episode started one of the bearded brothers said that they made the last three wins (when they came in number one) all on their own and I almost choked on my dinner. No they most certainly didn't! If it hadn't been for the alliance help they would have never finished that challenge where they had to put the cases in the order with the band tunes depending on which country they went to first in order. That put a really bad taste in my mouth and I didn't want them to win anymore.
So then it was between Hung and Chee (my first choice) and Will and James. By that point I was happy for either of them to win. I realized the dating guys really hadn't acted that badly. To me all they had done was make a few snarky remarks. In seasons past a lot of teams who I didn't like had done much worse. Plus they'd really played the game hard. Hung and Chee made a very fatal mistake when they hung around to give the answer of sauerkraut to every team in their alliance (4 other teams) instead of just giving it to the next team and telling them to pass it on to their alliance teams, and running on to the next challenge. They were sweet and kind especially to each other, but in my opinion didn't play the game well.
Also when Will and James mentioned wanting to win so they could adopt children that really tore at my heart. Adopting children is expensive.
On the bridge challenge when Hung said she had T-rex arms I laughed out loud. I'm only 5' 3" and my DS is always teasing me about my little T-rex arms. That is exactly what he calls them.
I actually cried when the Will and James won especially when they got engaged on the mat. I loved that a gay couple could kiss on national TV-that we have finally come to this point in our history. I wish them all of the success in the world and hope the money will give them the chance to adopt. I'm sad that Hung and Chee couldn't also win. Do the second place couple get any money for coming in second place?

I think James and Will were very supportive to each other during the race and I liked that a whole lot. I remember Will from ANTM and I liked him on there too. The proposal was very sweet and their goofing around afterwards was funny and sweet. I hope they can adopt and have a great life together. Second team does get money, I think all teams do. There was an article about it recently. Let me see if I can find it again.

The winning team of CBS' globe-trotting competition takes home $1 million. According to fan-site TARflies, the second place team wins $25,000 and the third place team gets $10,000. And each team earns money, with the first eliminated pair going home with $1,500.
And this was done almost 2 years ago. I read elsewhere that if the finale doesn’t air they don’t get the money. This must have been a long two years for Will and James!

I stopped watching after the sauerkraut episode because the alliance annoyed me that much. I'm very happy to see that Will and James won because I liked them. I guess I'll go watch the final episode online just to see the end. lol

I’m happy with who won! They were a great team and played the game well. I wanted the married couple but she was too nice and helped others (football team) when they didn’t help her back. Lesson learned for future teams! The volleyball players did not do the last three legs by themselves. Are they forgetting when they joined up with the other 2 teams to figure out the music/flag challenge. I’m glad they didn’t win lol.
This was actually filmed in fall 2018, post production was done in June 2019 and was suppose to be aired January 2020. For some reason, it was pushed back (before covid was a big thing) and then finally aired now. I’m hoping they were able to film fall 2019 and get the show on the air by the spring. That would be nice!

Yes, the beards got help with that crucial last challenge. But without the alliance and all the helping and all the strategic u turning and yielding throughout the season, any of these teams could have been eliminated before the final. None of them did it all on their own.

My thoughts on the finale: I am glad the boyfriends won. I was sick of the beards always winning (on the backs of the alliance) AND I while I liked Hung & Chee, they weren't great at playing the game at all. I agree with whomever said they should have passed the sauerkraut answer to the next team and told THEM to pass it along, in true alliance form.
Anyways, I realize the show was taped before Covid but when they were going through the find the baby in the king cake challenge, did anyone else thing "man, all that food was wasted - they could have given it to the homeless. Then again, the cakes were pretty destroyed/manhandled.... but what a waste.

Our CBS/AT&T dispute has been resolved so we were finally able to catch up on the last three episodes On Demand. I'd resigned to the fact it was going to be a finale with the alliance within the alliance trio and was just a little sad Hung and Chee didn't pull it off for the win. It was very hard to watch Hung going through his King cakes with the freaking baby sitting there. DD and I have been rewatching old seasons and on those the team member sitting out was allowed to coach and help from the sidelines. Can we talk about the horror poor Will suffered through eating the beignets?! I mean, in other seasons teams have had the delightful challenges of eating a couple pounds of caviar or a bowl of live, squirming mini octopus. Anyone would be able get down slimy octopi suctioning to your tongue and teeth, but a freshly fried beignet tossed in powdered sugar is just NOT fair! What was TAR thinking putting them through this kind of eating challenge? I did fall a little in love with James as he patiently coaxed Will through the ordeal.

I recently read an interview with the producers and they said they are thinking about addressing the alliance problem with some new rules. They weren't happy about that sauerkraut challenge either.

Very late to the game. Ido t even know if anyone will read this, lol. I actually binged the whole seasons his weekend while I’ve been recovering from Covid.
Like all of you, I really disliked the alliance. When people start grouping together like that, it starts to feel really cliquish and I hate that. I tend to root for the underdogs, so I did not want any of the Mine Five, or whatever they called themselves, to win. I was rooting for the nerds (which it seems Ike most of you didn’t like) and the blondes. I thought they were great teams that raced hard and kept up a good attitude with each other and the race in general, especially the blondes. Plus, their story about the blondes being on their own at such a young age made me believe they probably had a rough life and that tugged at my heartstrings.
I got really aggravated with Will and James. That was a shame because I remembered Will from America’s Next Top Model and liked him there. I thought the way he targeted the nerds and the blondes was ridiculous. He got mad because the nerds gave the blondes helpful information in a challenge. Apparently, HE’S the only one who’s allowed to have friends that stick together and help one another. Then in another challenge, when the nerds said they were glad to see the blondes turn up, Will did this big dramatic eyeroll. He just seemed petty and snotty. His and James’ love story though was touching and the fact they wanted to adopt, I was kind of happy for him to get the money.
The only alliance member I really liked was Hung and Chee. I really liked those two and would have enjoyed seeing them win. The volleyball brothers always seemed nice enough, but I remember on the first episode they made a disparaging remark toward those two guys from the south (who seemed like super nice guys (they said “bunch of hillbillies” when the two guys drove by in a boat. That just sort of set me against the brothers.
I also agree that De’angelo was a sore loser and kind of a jerk all around.I couldn’t believe he let Hung wait for him, give him that clue (which he would have never finished that) and doesn’t allow them to step forward first after that. That was tacky. And his remarks atthe end of Thera e were so immature and bitter. Apparently when he turned against the brother and sister and yielded them, even though they were part of the same alliance, that was okay. When the sister was upset about it, he acted like she was being ridiculous. He kept saying “it’s only a game”. Funny how when the alliance turned on him he had a very different attitude. So glad that team didn’t get to run the final.
