Hi guys! My mom, sisters and I are trying to start a new business but am needing some help. This is a project that we have wanted to do for a while and have been working on but we really want to gage interest before we put a lot of money into it. I have been a member of this group for a long time and the 2peas before that and really value your opinions. My mom and sisters have worked in the knife industry for a long time but have wanted to make a line of women's knifes. These aren't hunting knives, cooking knifes, or tactical knives. These would be more the kind of pocket knives that you would slip into your purse, keep in your glove compartment, or around your house to open your amazon packages, cut off a tag, cut open a caramel apple at the park kind of knives. Having my mom work in the industry we all have seen how nice it is to carry a little knife. With the way 2020 has gone for many and with many personal challenges ourselves, we really wanted to spread the message of positivity as well. Each knife has a value and a thought that corresponds with it. We are hoping they would be fun little gifts or that women might like them for themselves. Each knife will come in a case and we have tried to make each of them have a fun design that goes along with the theme. Since my mom has worked in the industry these will be a nice quality knife--similar to the ones she has done for the big names. That being said--I really want to know--Is this something you would purchase? Would you buy it for yourself or a gift? If not, can you tell me why (please don't worry about hurting my feelings--we would rather change up some things or not put money into a product that people don't want). If you would purchase it, would you be willing to spend $29.99? Or would you rather have a bit lesser quality knife for a cheaper price? Thanks you guys! I really appreciate it!!! Attachments:

I think they are a cool idea. I probably wouldn't buy them personally - carrying a knife isn't something I choose to do and my girls aren't girly enough for these to appeal to them. I do think the price point is reasonable for a quality knife and case especially with the theming. Good luck with your venture

I would! They are practical and pretty! I have a little pink Swiss Army knife that I love for all its little gadgets but this one would get used for different purposes and make s great gift for the woman who has everything.
Good luck!

I would not because I am clumsy and practically a toddler. My dh hands me his knife opened because I am afraid of closing them. How big is it? if it were like 2 inches, maybe.
However, I think a lot of the people I know would like them.

I've never felt the need to carry a knife for any reason, so I wouldn't buy one. But if I was someone who would buy a knife, I'd definitely buy that one. They look cute and practical and I love the little carry pack they come in, and "laugh" and "brave" engraving on them. I think the price is very reasonable.

No I wouldn’t because I don’t feel the need to carry around a knife. Personally I would make them a more elegant “unisex” design - I’d be more likely to buy that and I think the price point is about right.
ETA - I also think having the word “laugh” on a knife is a bit odd. I don’t think they need phrases but I would prefer non-cutesy phrases.

They look nice, but it's not something I need or want.

I wouldn't buy one for myself, and I think $30's too high a price point when you can get a Coleman knife for half that. I have like 87 pairs of scissors in the house for opening my amazon boxes. And right now, with covid, I'm not really going anywhere that I'd even need or think I need a pocket knife.
But I wouldn't necessarily mind one as a gift-- I'd probably put it in my car's emergency bag.

I actually would, especially if it came in that little wallet. I often wish I had scissors or a knife on me when I'm out, yet I never think to keep one in my bag. *ETA...I don't use my nails as tools and have resorted to using the edge of a key as a knife to slice open a package when I'm out!. I often collect parcels at the post office and they have a recycling bin, so sometimes I open the package and leave the box in the bin there and just take the items. It would be handy for opening packages etc. Or to pry open the tab on a can of drink (also use my keys for that!)
I'd prefer a good quality one that lasts at a higher prices rather than a flimsy cheap one. Are those little jewels on there? If so make sure they don't fall out/off, that would really annoy me if the cute little details fell off.
The 'value', the positive sentiments and cards that come with it do nothing for me, I'd rather not have any of that...just cute colors would be preferable. I find those sorts of sentiments cheesy and not always appropriate for gifts, what does "laugh" have to do with a knife? That would be enough to me off buying it.
Skip that and just do plain colours (nice feminine colors, soft pink, pale green, lilac, or a nice floral...not brights or neons or cheap looking) with the little matching wallets so that you don't stab yourself when you are rummaging around in your handbag. Then I'd definitely buy one for myself, and also as presents.

I think they look well made and have an attractive design and if I was in the market for a pocket knife I would think that’s a fair price point. I wouldn’t want a less quality knife for a cheaper price, I’d be willing to pay for quality.
However I have never in my life had a need to carry a knife with me and I’m not about to start. I use scissors to open packages and cut off tags. I would choose scissors over a knife every time for tasks like that, I’m clumsy and I don’t need to be slicing my hand by accident with a sharp knife. I wouldn’t gift one either, the reason is simply because since I don’t have a need for one, I would think my friends and family wouldn’t either. I don’t know any females in my circle who carries a pocket knife.

I’m not your target market as I’m in the UK, but I wouldn’t buy one because it’s illegal to carry knives here! Even if that weren’t the case, I have never found myself in a situation where I thought it would have been handy to have a knife in my bag. Your knives are pretty, but it’s not something I would buy. But I still wish you good luck with your business! 😊

I am a klutz, and would not usually choose a knife for opening things, or as something I would carry with me as a habit.
And I agree that "laugh" is an odd word to pair with a knife.

The only time I carry a knife is for fishing, so wouldn’t probably buy one that fancy. But they look nice.
If you had a special that placed them at $20, they might make good stocking stuffers. At $30, it would be too pricey for that.
I would skip the phrases, or choose wisely. Brave makes more sense than laugh, for a knife, but you aren’t intending these for self-defense, so I’d probably pass on both of those. Maybe something like “Handy” or “Helpful” or “Gizmo” or something related to the knife itself and how you envision it being used.

I have several pocket knives already and they have all ended up in a drawer. I would put one in my purse, never use it, then a few weeks or months later get ready to go on a trip and have to remember to take it out or risk losing it to security at the airport so it ends up in a drawer. Then once I’m home again, I never remember to put it back in my purse.
Honestly the best knife I have is a little safety box cutter in a little plastic thing that goes on a key ring that I got as a free promo from the place where I get my oil changed. I keep one in the mud room where I wind up cutting down the boxes that are headed for recycling and a second one in a kitchen cabinet near where I open Amazon boxes. I’ve learned that if it was in my purse it would do me no good whatsoever.
Plus I think a lot of moms might not want to have a knife in the same purse where their kids go rooting around for gum, candy or spare change. A small fingernail clipper works great for clipping off tags and my kid won’t lose a finger with it.

No. You can get a small Swiss Army knife for your keychain and it’s better. Sorry, I don’t like a knife with the word laugh on it

I would not because my DH always carries a Leatherman so if we are out and I need a tool, I just use his. I find I often need a tool, so I do think carrying a knife is a good idea. I just prefer to carry mine in someone else's pocket. He has bought me knives in the past, they are all somewhere in the house.
Based on how much he pays for his pocket knives, I think your price point is fair. They look like quality knives, but that is hard to tell from the photo.

I would absolutely be interested in your knives. I learned a long time ago that knives aren't just for guys and boy scouts. I carry one all the time and use it for all kinds of things.
ETA: I love that you have one with the word 'Laugh'. Many times, my pocket/purse knife has been used for something that brings smiles and laughter so why the hell not? Talk about stereotyping. Geesh.

I think they're pretty and look well made and thought out and I think the price point is fair. If I carried a knife, I would consider these. I won't be a customer because I don't carry a knife, and like Steph, can't be trusted with one (two different emergency room trips for knife-related injuries!) but it's not the price or design that deters me. I too do not like the word laugh on a knife. I also hate the word bravery (I prefer courage) and on this I think it gives the impression that this knife is for defense or violence (something you'd need 'bravery' for), which I think sends the wrong note for this kind of tool.

It's got nothing to do with stereotyping I think ANY words on a knife are twee...whether it be 'apple', 'open' or 'cut your potential rapist's penis off' I like functional items to work as described first and foremost, looking cute is sometimes important, especially if it's going to be a gift, but I don't need any sort of words on them, to me that's just gimmicky & unnecessary and not a selling point...and I'm only expressing that because the OP specifically asked us what we think.

My husband made a pocket knife for me and one for each of our daughters. He made them from scratch using blacksmith techniques and so on. I keep mine in my jewelry box as I don't want to lose it. There are so many places where a knife would be confiscated. Any federal building scans you when you go in and you lose anything like that if it is with you. Plus it always seems that when I needed something like that, I did not have it on me. At home there are things handy to do what needs to be done close at hand.
One thing I also cherish is the set of cooking knives he made for me. They are about thirty years old and still awesome; I use them many times a week. Once in a while they need sharpening. So I appreciate good knives and know the value of them.
Purchasing something like what you have pictured would not suit me. They don't look like "real" knives to me. If I were to consider purchasing something like that I would like to have something a little more utilitarian, nothing so "foo foo". I don't know how to explain it - maybe that doing what you are suggesting to the knives are devaluing them making them seem less valuable and not dangerous. A knife to me is serious business, it can hurt or cause damage. Like a any other weapon, it is not to be taken lightly.
But, then that's just me.

The price doesn’t bother me if they are quality, and I am the type who would buy a knife, but I would not buy one with a saying. That cheapens it, IMO, and pushes it into the realm of pink tools. I want good quality items that come in pretty designs or colors; I don’t want cheaper cutesy versions of tools.
My other concern is the size. The blade looks bigger than I need for the jobs you’re describing which just sets me up to injure myself. I’d want something more substantial than the small Swiss army, but not 4” long.

I think they are nice looking knives but I would never buy one for myself or as a present. I think it’s illegal in the UK to carry a knife on your person. Yes, it is and the penalties are significant. Gov.UK The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine. You’ll get a prison sentence if you’re convicted of carrying a knife more than once. www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives

I don't carry a purse so I have to carry everything in my pockets. I would not be interested simply because I carry enough in my pockets but they do look beautiful & well made.

I think they have potential. I also don’t care for the words, but the little case is nice and looks well-made. I keep a knife in my car in the driver’s side door in case I need to cut the seat belt to get out. Yeah, I know it sounds a bit paranoid but that’s just me. If your knives were sharp enough, it’s a much cuter alternative to a utility knife. The price is reasonable as long as the quality is good. You’ve gotten some good feedback, hope you have success in your venture.

Those are cute! If I were a pocket knife person I would absolutely go for one like that. (I mainly just use scissors for opening things though, as I have a bunch of little kids and don’t love knives around them right now).

I like the colours and designs, the little wallets are very cute. However, I don't think it's appropriate to have words on them, knives are seen by most people as a weapon and to have 'laugh' and 'brave' on them just seems really off.
