Did any of you take time off before your due date (especially with your first) or did you work right up to your due date or scheduled induction/C-section?
I took the two weeks off before my due date. I needed to SLEEP and decompress before little one came and I was having one of my bosses (my SIL) cover for me while I was off, so I wanted a buffer time for if she had questions. I did not get a paid maternity leave, and I had saved up enough money to have 10 weeks off comfortably.
I'm glad I did have the time, because we ended up with an emergency C-section and a 39 day NICU stay (with ECMO) and I felt a little more prepared mentally than if I had jumped right from a stressful job.

I chose the second option. With my first I worked until I went into labor right at 38 weeks. But I was on bedrest with no pay from 25 weeks until 36 weeks. With my other kids I worked until my scheduled c-section date. I didn't have a lot of time off so water tomhave the most time once baby was born.

I was working 10 days after my due date but it was at my husband's hotel. It didn't prompt some questions about what sort of boss I had that made me work when I was so heavy and uncomfortable

I worked until labor, but by accident. I planned on taking off two weeks before my due date, but my babies were 3 weeks early. I worked a full day on a Friday, and went into labor at 11 pm that night. Same thing with my second (I should have known better).

with #1 - I was working a temporary job that ended Sept 30th - I was due Oct 31st.
with #2 - I worked up until I went into labour - no paid leave and I lost my job taking unpaid.
with #3 - I wasn't working

I worked up until the day before I was induced. For both babies.

With my DD, I worked until 36 weeks, and returned to work when she was 10 months old. With DS I finished up at 34 weeks and returned when he was 9 months old. All of my maternity pay was on full salary. 😊

I had twins with my first pregnancy. My doctor put me on bedrest and absolutely NO work when I was 20 weeks pregnant.
With my second pregnancy I worked up until the day I was due (scheduled)

I worked until labor with my first - well my husband would tell you until halfway through labor as I was on the phone talking to some clients during labor - but that was really my choice, my company offered 2 weeks paid before due date and 6 months after. I went back to work about a month before that as there was a big meeting I wanted to attend. My second was more of a mess as I went on bedrest twice.

DD was my first. She ended up being a scheduled c-section at 38 1/2 weeks and I took 1 day off prior to the delivery. DS was my second. The doctor took me out of work at 39 weeks. I went into labor 1 week later (ended up with a c-section.)

This is so embarrassing, but my boss asked me to start my maternity leave early - i think about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Apparently I was such a bitch to be around, that they were ready for me to go LOL! I had 9 months paid mat leave, so it was no problem to take the extra time.

I worked until 6 months. I am 5'1" tall and #1 weighed 9lb 10oz, so I was HUGE and walking was getting difficult with my RA. With #2 and #3 I was very lucky to not have to be working, I was home with all 3 until the youngest went to K. Then I started teaching and took her to school with me.

It's hard for me to remember-it was 31 years ago, but I'm fairly sure I quit my job at the photography studio I'd been working in for 4 years, a week or so before my due date. Ex DH and I decided I'd stay home and raise our baby full time (which I wanted to do), and luckily we were able for me to do that. I started my own wedding photography business a year after DS's birth.
I'm not sure why you are asking the question but I think the maternity leave in this country is severely lacking compared to other 1st world countries. And yet we pay more for health care than any other 1st world country and get less for it.

I worked until 34 weeks with my first. I was teaching, and we got 12 weeks paid leave, and up to 5 years unpaid. Part of the deal was that we had to go on leave 6 weeks before our due date, and couldn’t come back before 6 weeks after - that was the 12 weeks they paid us for. I did go back to work between my 2. We moved across state when number 1 was 6 months old and I was just starting to get things organised to go back in my new area when I found I was pregnant again. I started back as a substitute teacher when he was 5 years old and just started school.

I wasn’t working at the time, but I had a high-risk pregnancy and my memory is that I was spending a lot of time running around for testing and appointments, especially nearing delivery. So if I had been working, I can envision that I would have taken leave early, just from having to be gone so much anyway.

None of the above. Our maternity leave policy gave us two weeks off before our due date and I intended to take that. However, about a month before my due date, I was put on modified bed rest and was done with work with no notice. About a week later, I was induced (not scheduled). I expect that most people who have been on bed rest would agree that it's not relaxing or restful lol

I was finishing up my degree while I was pregnant and was due 4 weeks after graduation (I was in my late 20’s). I also worked part time. I went into labor overnight 7 weeks early. My classes started at 7:30 and since the drs office didn’t open until 9 I went to class and times contractions until then. I was unsure if this was labor and if my water had broke overnight (it had). My son was born the morning after being admitted.
Went straight from class to the dr to the hospital. Oh and my husband was over 1,000 miles away on a business trip at the time.
Long story short, yes...I worked and went to school until the last possible moment 😉

Self employed and working from home at the time, and I was working frantically to get orders out before I went into labor. I remember that I kept praying to not go into labor early so I would be able to get everything done. (And I did, thankfully.) I ended up going past my due date, but went into labor on my own three days before the date the doctor threatened to induce me.

Both of my babies were a week late, and I worked up until then. I wanted all of my leave for after the birth. I didn’t know when I was going to deliver, so why would I have taken off time before. Work helped keep my mind off of my uncomfortable feeling.

We get 52 weeks of maternity benefits in Canada, or at least we did back when I had my sons. I stopped a week ahead of my due dates both times. The first arrived on his due date (!) and the second one one day early.

Paide leave was 12 weeks when we had our kids (it's 16 now), to start between 4-6 weeks before the due date. I chose the mandatory 4 weeks before to have more time after birth. Due to issues at work I ended up working until 38 weeks with our first, but that was compensated because he was 2 weeks late . It was really nice to have that time. Particularly the second time, I really enjoyed doing fun things with DS1 whilst he didn`t have to share me yet. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I wondered if I could ever love the baby as much as his brother (I got the answer to that shortly thereafter: yes!)

I took two weeks off before the c-section date with both babies, both were born at 38 weeks, so I stopped working at 36 weeks. Those two weeks off were paid sick leave and then the five months maternity leave were paid at 80% with no taxes, which means I actually earned more than when I was working. We have a national health system and social security which covers sick leave and maternity leave.

I worked right up to the end and took 4 months off. I have no idea what the policy was, as I was the only female at the construction company I was working for. I'm not sure there was a policy. Bottomline, they paid me for the whole time. Dh was able to cash in his accrued sick time and stayed home for 3 months. We loved that family time. People thought Dh was crazy for taking so much time. He sobbed when he had to go back.

The first arrived on his due date (!) and the second one one day early. They started that in 2001 when I had my first. Now I believe you can take 18 months with 12 months worth of pay spread out. I stopped about a week or a bit more, can't really remember before my due date. She came 12 days late. I was a SAHM with my second.

I had planned to work right up to my due date. I went in for my 39 week appointment on a Monday afternoon - leaving work and a bunch of open tasks pending thinking I would be back the next day. The doctor told me I was at a zero and we'd talk about inducing dates the following Monday at my next appointment. It was already after 4 so I headed home. That night I was extremely uncomfortable and had contractions. I kept telling myself it was false labor because "I was at a zero". By 3am I thought, "okay, maybe this is real." Called work at 8 and told them I probably wouldn't be going in that day. Called the hospital at 9:30 and they said come on in. I did. Got to the hospital at 10am. He was born at 10:30.

I voted "I took more than a week" before my due date. I was due 06/06 however my blood pressure was so high that on Memorial Day I was put on bedrest. I delivered, by c-section a 10.8lb bouncing baby boy on 6/14. I had every intention of working right up until my due date. I was commuting into Boston daily by train, my hospital was in Boston, so I figured if I went into labor at work I'd just go to the hospital. How naïve I was.

I was working at a temp agency and the assignment I had was ending and my due date was the following week. I was scheduled to be induced on a Monday and went in Friday night.

With my first I actually quit my job the December before he was born (in March) because we would be moving the following summer and I didn't want to deal with doing out of state taxes for the first two months of that year. I did not re-enter the workforce until my kids were all in school full time.
