You know every time I see this thread …I really dislike the term “ passed away” It always reminds me of the dead parrot sketch form Monty Python Too euphemistic He died- just factual Perhaps I am too concrete in my thinking

Her Venmo and the GoFundMe were posted non-stop, including in his official obituary. It really isn't that uncommon to post that information if it's someone who passes away unexpectedly at a young age. I do understand it's been going strong on Instagram for quite a while too.

Definitely not in my nook of Europe. It looks extremely prevalent with American Christians though. By God shall give, I guess they mean their acquaintances and social media followers will...

So, today is the anniversary of his death. So far, no discussion of the cause despite her teasing on IG stories this past week. Instead, she's seeing signs in her Alexa device playing Justin Bieber's newest song, Ghost, randomly in the middle of the night. It's Collin reaching out to her.
Except it's not. There's been a heap of random song playing reports with Alexa devices lately. It happens mostly at night and for songs in Amazon's current hits list. She should watch out for more nocturnal random song plays and contact Amazon to discuss changing her device(s) instead. A friend of mine had his Alexa playing a song in the middle of the night for no reason almost every single day at one point in September... It was not a dead relative communicating supernaturally. It was Jeff Bezos's technology for not-so-rich peasants going wonky. Consider this your PSA if you have Alexa devices.

It's great that she was able to get a lot of mileage out of the photos from the photo shoot.

That's why I only bolded obituary. I haven't seen the extent of asking for money in so many forms, so many outlets, and for an extended period of time like Lizzy has.

I’m American and I’m Christian. I’ve never seen it, ever. Same. It would be considered extremely tacky to my family and close friends. I may live in the hometown of Amway (thankfully my friends/family will not touch that MLM either) but Go Fund Me is considered gauche. LOL

In *some* American Christian families my previous message should have read. I've been surprised at the amount of of Venmo and GFM accounts being posted in the unvaxxed Christian Covid-19 death announcements online. This is totally unseen back here in Western Europe. Then again, the Trumpian fracture of society is a very American phenomenon that comes with very specific sets of beliefs and thoughts. Weird all around. Although that doesn't explain the rise of Venmo in more mainstream Mormon circles.

I'm in the Midwest of the Midwest...Ohio. Right smack in the middle of die-hard Trump country, school walk-outs/anti-mask, give me my freedoms and most definitely anti-vax to the enth degree. There is an attorney in our city who will write up a religious exemption for any family with a child in our city school district so they don't have to wear a mask in school. Yes, I'm serious. Idiotic, selfish jerks.
Admittedly, I've never seen such a thing in an obit or elsewhere.
Seeing it with DL was a first. It's appalling to me.
For the record, the above does NOT describe me. I am happily vaxxed and most certainly NOT a Trump supporter!

I have seen people shilling for cash for funerals and burial costs if it's an unexpected death but not to the amount that DL is getting.

On the sorryantivaxer site, I swear every "no vax for our family, thanks" person who dies (which is a lot of them) - their bs anti-science anti-mask anti-vax posts always seem to be followed up by a notice of death (after notice of "pray for us") and than, like clockwork, a GoFundMe or its Christian equivalent GiveSendGo.

Also an American Christian who has spent half her life in the south / southwest - I've never seen a Go Fund Me or similar in any obituary. In the event of a tragedy I have seen funds set up at a bank, for instance when a LEO has been killed and left young children, or kids in college.

The video you posted on NSBR of the woman tik-toking her last days was heart breaking, and made me angry. So arrogant in the beginning! That's really the only one I've seen. What a stupid legacy to leave her children. Sorry for hijack General scrappers!

She has said that she drove Collin to ER thinking he'd be coming home with her and the kids fully expecting he would too and then he didn't if I remember correctly. Or did the ambulance pick him up? Anyway, the kids stayed home (or the vacation home, I'm guessing) and thought their dad would be ok and back with them eventually. Then the cause of death that was initially assumed ended up not being it per EK. She mentioned there being a "surprise" when the autopsy report came back. Am I misremembering things? Can someone confirm my recollections? I thought he passed in front of the kids. She has changed the story so many times who knows. Today she posted about how the last time she saw him she was leaving to go out with her sister and it sounds like he was home with the kids.

Another American Christian here - it's not popular in my circles. Also, I'd say there are a good number of denominations that do not consider Mormons to be Christian, so that may be part of the difference.
