I just learned that this is an excerpt of The Cure of Troy written by Heaney in 1991, which is an adaptation in verse of Sophocles' play, Philoctetes .
A poem for all time.

@zingermack I think the best phrase to describe me is I cared (before I had a child in a marginalized group) but just not enough to actually do anything about it. I hate saying that about myself but itâs true. That is awesome self reflection, Julie. We need to work to find ways to reach people who may not be personally affected by policy but will still fight when itâs bad policy. Like people not having rights over their body or who they can marry. The good news for me is Iâm married to about the most self Centered person there is. So Iâm starting with him. Heâs still bitching about how the economy will be ruined now, refusing to give Biden/Harris a chance to fuck it up or fix it. And I tell him he sounds like an ignorant ass, like his dad. That shuts him up. |

Yeah, I looked through DHâs timeline for some family stuff (havenât logged onto mine in years) and couldnât believe some of the crap I was reading. Iâd be hiding or defriending a ton of people. It was like being on twitter, but with people you know.

Whether your kids are your present motivation or not, your caring and engagement will likely expand as your awareness is heightened. Thatâs a perfectly normal evolution. It happens all the time. None of us is perfect; we all go through various phases of learning and improving. And the learning never stops. you just said this so well and it's so important for everyone to remember that we can learn and grow at all times. |

I think there were several good candidates for this election, but as Covid appeared and other unfortunate consequences from Trump's choices kept arising, I thought that this guy is the right guy for what we need right now. Yes, he's old and white, but he is also such a good person who has experience, can bring together (for those that want to be brought together) a fractured nation, and can rely on scientists and facts to at least try to get us back on track. He needs to hire Pete for his hype man. That guy was on fire in every Fox interview I saw. I actually said Bazinga! now and then when he spoke. Pete was a great surrogate for the campaign, and if they are smart, they will give him a post. Like him or not, the guy has brains and is soooo quick on his feet. Pete would be an awesome press Secretary |

I watched on a scrapbooking friend's FB salvo into wacky world. One person can into the post to clear up the kids of Biden stealing the election. A pile on happened to the Biden defender. She didn't back down. Then the person who's Facebook wall I was on said that not to worry the person was now blocked and that she could say whatever she wanted on her wall! Um, okay tin foil hat wearer. I don't think she ever wanted to have a discussion.

By all accounts she wants to keep her teaching job, just as she did when Biden was VP. I say more power to her!! She teaches where my ds1 goes to college. He is such a fanboy and has waited outside her classroom to get to see her in person (and this was 2 years ago). Man, I would LOVE to be able to do that! |

Mainstream polling organisations were left scratching their heads over who he might be referring to, as most surveys released in the run-up to voting day had given comfortable leads to the eventual victor Joe Biden.
It appears that the outgoing president was in fact referencing an opinion piece in the Sunday Express penned by the director of the right-of-centre Washington DC-based Democracy Institute thinktank, Patrick Basham.
Responding to Mr Trumpâs original tweet, Joe Twyman of UK-based Deltapoll joked: âDevastated to discover Trump does not think I am the âBest pollster in Britainâ. Seriously though, while it would be/is easy to make a joke out of this, I really have no idea what he is referring to.â
When the Basham column was identified as the source of the presidentâs claim, Twyman tweeted: âNeedless to say the pollster in question is not British, he's American. Unsurprisingly the rest of the claims are similarly weak in terms of their accuracy.â
