I am a criminal justice reform person, so former prosecutors probably generally won’t be my bag; there are a bunch of reform prosecutors now who I think are doing good work, but that’s a pretty recent phenomenon. Those are the issues I care most about, so it affects my perspective, obviously.
That said, I do find her personally appealing, and I think she has been a good senator for California; I also enjoy her demeanor when in tough situations. I was fine with her nomination, and I will be fine with her as VP.

There are the people who either consciously or unconsciously can’t accept the idea of a VP who is either or woman or Black, and definitely not both. These are generally the people who can’t come up with a a valid reason for objecting to her, just “don’t like her” or spew biased garbage like she slept her way to the top. They’re also likely to come up with conspiracy theory crap as “reasons.” These people could be anywhere on the political spectrum. There are also legitimate concerns around her - namely regarding her prosecutorial background and being supportive of mass incarceration (which disproportionately affects BIPOC individuals) over criminal justice reform. These will be almost exclusively liberals - pretty far left on the spectrum, not usually moderate liberals. You explained that better than I did thank you

Hahahahahahahaha Too bad they really do NOT support those who have extra marital affairs. They would never have elected Trump if that was the case, and we wouldn't have lived through 4 years of a hellish shit show.
Or a large portion of the R senate

They don’t like her because she’s a woman. They also don’t like her because she’s a black woman. Also, she is a black woman on the cusp of having an ENORMOUS amount of power.
“She slept her way to the top” is a pathetic excuse to try and discredit all her accomplishments. Assholes.

She didn't poll well in the primaries. You'll have read many primary exit polls to see what votes in each state said. You can also read democratic pundits thoughts back then. Ultimately, she wasn't what democratic wanted in a president.

The same tactic was used against Amy Klobocher in our state when she ran for President. Her record as the Attorney general and her record with black cases. There is like one major case they keep going back to. She was barely involved, and it's dumb. But of course they go back and go thru every little thing they were involved in. I really love Klobuchar. She lays it out. She absolutely brought. it. in response to Ted Cruz's bullshit at one of the Comey Barrett hearings. She's smart and a badass and she doesn't pretend to play nicey nice or blush and look away when she's getting things done.

And yet, an article was published that Amy was “mean” to her staff. Kamala is: young attractive smart experienced well educated has has the potential to hold sway over older white guys Yeah, I can see where people would hate her.

I think she's too far left. I think she's as far left as Pence is right and I don't think extremism is good for the country. Admittedly I'm biased. I think California is very poorly run. My family was a victim of the statewide bankruptcy. I grew up there and haven't liked our Senators for decades. I'm inherently distrustful of California politicians given how I feel they've botched their own state. It's further exacerbated by the fact that I now live in a state that's quickly filling with people fleeing California in droves because it's broken, but then they want to come here and make it California. I hope she'll prove me wrong. On the other hand, I also agree with some of the points regarding her prosecutorial decisions and their impact on the BIPOC Community. I continue to remain politically homeless. I like her charisma. I think she'll be a dynamic leader. I have no objections to her race or gender. The Californian in her is what does it for me

She had an affair with her mentor, She had a relationship in 94/95 with Willie Brown when he was the Speaker of the California Assembly and she was in the Alameda County DA's office. It wasn't an affair, secret, hidden, calculated, etc., and she wasn't sleeping her way to the top. Brown did go on to become the mayor of San Francisco from 1996-2004 and Harris was elected DA in 2003. I think men who don't like her were squirming in their seats when she questioned Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing. She is prepared and smart.

Well I don't care for Willie Brown, so I had some pretty big reservations about her initially - whole guilt by association. I LOVED her acceptance speech - thought it was so powerful and real and forced me to really take another look at her. I think she'll be a strong VP for Biden. Haters going to hate, I have no doubt she's known that for a good long time.

The Californian in her is what does it for me I remember that statewide bankruptcy. That was when Republican Governors ran the state. It wasn’t until Jerry Brown took over 10 years ago that the state started to right itself after years of Republicans mucking things up. And it’s true people are leaving the state and I’m showing them the door at the state line. Figuratively of course. It was a real boom to the state when tech companies decided to make CA their home. With top notch colleges here the companies had a great talent pool to pluck employees from. But an unintended consequence was by paying all these folks really good salaries, they caused the cost of housing to skyrocket. For everyone. Now a lot of these guys are complaining the cost of living is high so their leaving. Ignoring the fact they are part of the reason it costs a lot to live here. So they leave. Good. Every state has their problems. But even with its problems I still like the state. I like the diversity of the people. I like the diversity of the industry. I like the fact the state is going to actively fight climate change. I like the countryside where you can walk through old growth redwoods, along sandy or rocky beaches, hang out in the mountains or in the desert. All in one day if you start early enough. As far as Kamala Harris being “too far left” it’s clear you were not paying attention to her when she was running for president. She is a moderate leaning left. Her problem was she couldn’t decide how far left to go. In any case, it was a long long way from Bernie Sanders & company who are about as far left as you can get and still be called a Democrat or progressive or progressive Democrat

I keep hearing from so many people in my life, even those who voted for Biden, like my son, that people do not like Kamala Harris. Have I missed something, because I do like her.
Why do people not like her? My son's best friend is a sweet, lovely black man, and my son insists that even black people do not like her, but he hasn't really said why.
Help me out! Thanks peas. I have learned so much from so many of you this week. The black nurses I work with don’t like her because she wants to give the impression she’s black when she’s not. She Jamaican indian. They claim she is putting on airs and wants to be sympathetic but she hasn’t experienced the black life in America. They don’t believe in her, so by choosing her, they don’t trust Biden’s motives. I think I can understand that.

From someone who inside of ten years ago was more than moderately right, my perspective on how far away "far left" is is just different than yours.

My DS DGF is 1/2 Jamaican and 1/2 Irish, and she and her mother very much consider themselves strong black women. Her black brothers received "the talk" about being a black man in America from their black Jamaican uncles, since that's not something a green eyed, red haired, white father can do, because he hasn't experienced black life in America, unlike his Jamaican wife and children. I bet black Puerto Ricans, that speak Spanish as their first language, would really blow their minds. I can not fathom that kind of ignorance, especially from educated people.

I'm ambivalent about her. I want to like her because she is smart and tough, but she sounded pretty condescending in the debates and that's the same reason I don't like Elizabeth Warren. They both act like the rest of us are stupid. I also thought she came across as too far left in the debates but, forgive me, I don't remember why. I didn't think there would be a test. I wish her well and I'm delighted to have a woman of color anywhere near the White House. I'm also pretty p*ssed about the "sleeping her way to the top" allegations. Seems like a pretty cheap way to tear her down.

I will read through all of your responses, and I so appreciate you all.

Here is the podcast. She talks about it around the 14:00 mark. You and me BothI will check that out tomorrow. My brain is kind of fried right now. Plus, I'm on my second glass of wine. LOL ETA: I wasn't crazy about Kamala Harris in the primaries, but as time has gone on, she has become one of my favorite people in politics. I believe we will be lucky to have her as VP. I agree with all that you said. She wasn't may favorite back in the early days of this campaign, but as I have heard more from her, I really like her. She will be a fantastic vice president. And maybe president some day. I completely agree. I find it highly offensive, but it's a pretty typical way people tear down powerful women. Yes, it is so gross. SOOOOOOO gross. I've always liked her and watching her in the debate really cemented it for me. She is a strong woman that will not let a man talk over her. People don't like that. That is what I liked about her. LOL My favorite moment of the debate was when she told Pence, excuse me, I am speaking. I will listen to that. Thank you. But it will be tomorrow. "She doesn't act like a lady." WTF dude! Because your hypocritical ass can't seem to see that some of the men in politics don't act like men, they act like sleazy scumbags. OMG. She doesn't act like a lady is soooooo offensive! Is Melania posing in the nude "acting like a lady???" UGH.

Do you think that your son speaks for black people because he has a “sweet, lovely black” friend? I don't think he looks at it as speaking for black people. He just knows that black people aren't treated the way white people are, and it pisses him off.
