It would be cool if we could listen to Kamala Harris on whether or not she identifies as Black instead of our black friends and coworkers: "“I am black and I am proud of it," she said bluntly. "I was born black and I’ll die black and I am proud of it. And I am not gonna make any excuses for it, for anybody, because they don't understand.” www.politico.com/story/2019/02/12/kamala-harris-2020-black-race-1167030And as Olan said, she certainly has been (and will continue to be) treated like a Black woman in this country. The same thing happened with Obama. My guess is we will continue to see people try and separate Kamala from her blackness. And we know why

Just one small correction. She went to high school in Canada when her mother was working in McGill. Why is this a correction? 4 years in Canada negates her being American? or does it negate that she is Black-Indian-American or just American? Seriously....the mental semantics that some of you do...I am starting to see why we still have people voting for Trump. OP, nothing against you but I think threads like this are so unnecessary and so nothing good. This is why we will never move forward because we are constantly doubting our own people🤦🏽♀️ Uhhhh... I made an incorrect statement. She politely corrected it, which is the appropriate thing to do. I think you are reading something into her reply that’s not there.

I want to circle back around to the "she slept her way to the top" comment. As women, we need to stop talking and thinking this way. Stop shaming women for having sex and/or actually enjoying it.
And if women use sex to advance themselves in a man's world whose fault is it really? Hint: It's the man's fault. 1. Because it's a male dominated world which is difficult for women to get ahead. 2. And if men are so easily swayed by a piece of ass, that's on them.

You really need to work on your reading comprehension. busy " she's lived in the United States her whole life" That is the correction. Quebec isn't actually in the United States. It's not semantics, it was wrong information - that I noted was a small correction. I did not say she wasn't an American or opine on her blackness. I corrected a false statement. ETA and incidentally, for those who don't know about Shyamala Gopalan who I'd looked up after Kamala Harris' acceptance speech, I highly recommend learning her story - she was a remarkable woman. www.townandcountrymag.com/society/politics/a33623104/kamala-harris-mother-shyamala-gopalan-facts/Nah... actually you proved my point. You are a closet trumpsters. I have seen the way you post. It is always something negative followed by a “but I think they are still awesome”. Hoping one day people see you for who you truly are.Another attempt at a smear because someone didn't just let misinformation stand unchecked. You couldn't even let small misinformation be corrected.

I actually think it’s a double standard for us to justify Kamalas relationship/affair with willie. If it was a man hell yes it would come up and not be ok. The fact is, he was/is married. Doesn’t matter about the other things . Legally they are married. You guys know sure as hell if that was a guy with a married women, but separated we would be all over it. Why haven’t they gotten divorced? I like Kamala a lot. But I’m just bringing up what others are saying

I know people in real life and on this board that are legally separated and have moved on with their lives, including new partners, without getting divorced. I have no need to justify Kamala's relationship with Willie. It is such a nonstory about something that happened 35 years ago.

It doesn't matter to me one iota if they hadn't gotten around to signing a piece of paper to say they're now legally divorced. Willie Brown and his wife had been separated / estranged FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS for crying out loud. I think it's a pretty safe bet that neither Willie not his estranged wife had any intention whatsoever of reconciling. Who knows, and quite frankly, who cares why they didn't get divorced? My mum and dad were separated for 17 YEARS before they finally got divorced. They both dated other people during those 17 years. And not one person had a stick up their arse about it. IT WAS NOT AN AFFAIR. IT WAS NOT AN AFFAIR. IT WAS NOT A FUCKING AFFAIR. ETA: I don't know why this makes me so (some may say irrationally) angry.

But it's obvious it was..which the republicans will go on and on about. It was an affair. He was married. I could care less what other people do. I'm talking about someone in the public eye, in politics. You know as well as I do that it's going to be talked about and brought up. Republicans are going to call us hypocrites because we went on about Trumps affairs, and marriages, yet...here we are. Extramarital sex/affair Extramarital sex occurs when a married person engages in sexual activity with someone other than his or her spouse. The term may be applied to the situation of a single person having sex with a married person. From a religious perspective, it could refer to sex between people who are not in a conjugal relationship.

They may think he is a crappy person but don't go on about it. I do know plenty of Democrats who are blown away that Trump's affairs are a nonissue for evangelical Christian Republicans. That is hypocrisy. 2. Do your DDs share your point of few? A sincere question. I grew up in a traditional family unit, as did most of my friends, but many have had different family units as adults (married, living common law, legally separated, single parents, etc.), so my young adults have been exposed to a much wider variety of family units and don't see this as an affair. It may be obvious to you, but it really isn't a definition shared by everyone when the partners involved have moved on from previous relationships.

There are plenty of Democrats that made comments over the yrs. as far as 2. we actually haven't talked about it. I will ask them about it at Thanksgiving.
Do you even know what my view is? I think you're missing my point.

I totally agree. It was actually HE that was married not her. What I'm saying is that the republicans are posting a LOT of meme's about this. A lot before the election. Now it's slowed down of course. I just hate that they leech on to that part of her career. Trying to discount everything. That she didn't earn her way, but he paved the way for her, and of course Pence and trump didn't do that...because they are men, and men don't sleep their way to the top.

“Willie Brown: Sure, I dated Kamala Harris. So what?”
Willie Brown Jan. 26, 2019 Updated: Aug. 11, 2020 1:59 p.m.
I’ve been peppered with calls from the national media about my “relationship” with Kamala Harris, particularly since it became obvious that she was going to run for president. Most of them, I have not returned.
Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago. Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was Assembly speaker.
And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco. I have also helped the careers of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and a host of other politicians.
The difference is that Harris is the only one who, after I helped her, sent word that I would be indicted if I “so much as jaywalked” while she was D.A.”
