I keep hearing from so many people in my life, even those who voted for Biden, like my son, that people do not like Kamala Harris. Have I missed something, because I do like her.
Why do people not like her? My son's best friend is a sweet, lovely black man, and my son insists that even black people do not like her, but he hasn't really said why.
Help me out! Thanks peas. I have learned so much from so many of you this week.

The people I've talked to say she slept her way to the top. I know very little about her, but she seems like a smart cookie, and I like her.

Which seems to be the go to answer for why people don't like a strong, powerful woman. Pisses me off. My husband voted for Biden, and he doesn't like her either. I asked him why, and all he could say is that she "seems like a real b!tch." Which pissed me off, and I asked him why she seems like a bitch, that a strong man is looked upon as a strong man, but a strong woman is called a b!tch. He just threw his hands up, walked away and said he wasn't going to talk to me about it. LOL

I think it's because she locked up so many black men when she was a prosecutor. However, she was on a podcast recently (if I remember where I'll link it) and she explained how she was fighting crime in the hardest hit neighborhoods.

I don't know anything about her but my guess is because she's female she's held to impossible standards. Doesn't back down= she's bitchy. Successfulr=slept her way to the top. Spoke louder to be heard over men that won't shut up=shrill. Pick one...

I know my son is extremely passionate about the black lives matter movement. He also dated a black girl who I thought he would marry, who he calls the love of his life, and I think he still secretly hopes they get together again some day. So if he has heard that, I can understand why he doesn't like Harris.

LMFAO He thought her facial expressions and the things she said were mean. I loved her in the debate.

There are the people who either consciously or unconsciously can’t accept the idea of a VP who is either or woman or Black, and definitely not both. These are generally the people who can’t come up with a a valid reason for objecting to her, just “don’t like her” or spew biased garbage like she slept her way to the top. They’re also likely to come up with conspiracy theory crap as “reasons.” These people could be anywhere on the political spectrum.
There are also legitimate concerns around her - namely regarding her prosecutorial background and being supportive of mass incarceration (which disproportionately affects BIPOC individuals) over criminal justice reform. These will be almost exclusively liberals - pretty far left on the spectrum, not usually moderate liberals.

Hahahahahahahaha Too bad they really do NOT support those who have extra marital affairs. They would never have elected Trump if that was the case, and we wouldn't have lived through 4 years of a hellish shit show.

I guess I need to do some more research into her because I didn't know that.

The same tactic was used against Amy Klobocher in our state when she ran for President. Her record as the Attorney general and her record with black cases. There is like one major case they keep going back to. She was barely involved, and it's dumb. But of course they go back and go thru every little thing they were involved in.

Her track record as a prosecutor is what is questionable among some. There are some things to consider about laws she had to follow and then other deals she either accepted or initiated.

To the original question. My daughter doesn't like her because when she was a DA she sided with police officers and handed down heavy sentences to POC for rather minor offenses. There were more examples my daughter gave, but that's the one I remember distinctly.

Most men fear strong women. I still haven't figured out why though. Male fragility? Because they can't envision a world in which true equality exists. They are fearful that if women attain any power, they will marginalize men the way that men have marginalized women for centuries. They can't conceive of a world without an oppressor. That's my theory anyway. ETA: I wasn't crazy about Kamala Harris in the primaries, but as time has gone on, she has become one of my favorite people in politics. I believe we will be lucky to have her as VP.

my friend had a chance to hold a high position in her campaign,, and chose to work for cory booker. but harris, though maybe has some flaws, is human and not perfect. I voted for her in San Francisco, and for state position and for senator. she will be fine.

For the record, the district attorney doesn't hand down sentences, the judge does. The DA decides the charges to bring, and whether there will be a plea bargain, and will make a sentencing recommendation, but the sentence imposed is ultimately decided by the judge.

I completely agree. I find it highly offensive, but it's a pretty typical way people tear down powerful women.

And even more than that they don't like strong black women. And on top of those two things they are threatened when a strong woman, black or not, gets in a position of power. Horrors, they might have authority over a man! such nerve...

I've always liked her and watching her in the debate really cemented it for me. She is a strong woman that will not let a man talk over her. People don't like that. Of course there's the affair she had with Willie Brown which is where we got the "Joe and the Ho" memes from. Because men in politics never have affairs.
Probably the only complaint about her that I have heard that seems legitimate to me is that when she was running in the primary she was wishy washy and seemed to never take a firm stand on anything.

Because men in politics never have affairs. My BIL said he doesn't like her because, "She doesn't act like a lady." WTF dude! Because your hypocritical ass can't seem to see that some of the men in politics don't act like men, they act like sleazy scumbags. I am so SICK of men right now. (sorry if I offended the good dude peas on this board, or any of the honestly good guys. Between my BIL and the thread about the peas who have not-so-good DH's that are Trump supporters, I am getting irate)

The right doesn’t like her because she’s “too left” a ‘radical left wing socialist’
But many on the left, especially the far left, aren’t pleased about her because she was a tough prosecutor who put away a lot of people and she’s too conservative.
Go figure ( BTW the lefts argument is closer to true than the rights argument but neither are exactly accurate )
