I saw my surgeon yesterday and the pathology results from my hysterectomy were shocking: no abnormal cells anywhere! None in my cervix! And they also checked my uterus and Fallopian tubes, just in case, and no abnormal cells there either! I know the tissue was removed so in some ways what was in it was irrelevant, but I just feel... so much lighter. I mean, hopefully this means that all those precancerous cells are GONE! I have never shown any signs of abnormal cells in my vaginal walls so hopefully that remains clear. I go back in six months and one year for follow up Pap smears. I feel light. This feels surreal. I feel like I’ve been given a new life.

That is terrific news .I do have a question though , if they removed your cervix why is there a need to do a Pap smear in 6 months?

That is terrific news .I do have a question though , if they removed your cervix why is there a need to do a Pap smear in 6 months? Because abnormal cells can still be present in the vaginal tissue/ walls. Any woman, even without a cervix, should still have Pap smears and exams performed regularly.
