That's appalling. Don't have a vaccine if you don't 'believe in it' but to stop other people getting theirs is shocking.Except that the sad part is that it really isn't any more. If I've learned anything from this administration and this year, it's that no matter how low you think the bar is, someone is always willing to lower it more. Yes. And the bar is very, very low. Like down in HELL. I hope they press charges and I hope this person loses his/her license, goes to jail and is NAMED.

It doesn't specify whether it was a nurse though. It could be an admin person or even a cleaner. It just says a hospital employee. In the US, vaccines and other potent drugs are kept under lock and key (or codes, with new technology). Access wouldn’t be given to just anyone; just those who need it. So it likely want a cleaner or even an admin; it was likely a nurse as they’re administering the vaccines in most places. Well they are here as well. Wasn't thinking when I posted that

“We immediately launched an internal review and were led to believe this was caused by inadvertent human error," the hospital said in the statement on Wednesday. "The individual in question today acknowledged that they intentionally removed the vaccine from refrigeration..." "Inadvertent human error" tells me it was a mistake. Like the person intentionally took them from the freezer before the appropriate time and the vaccine was compromised. This could have nothing to do with anyone's beliefs or politics. Why are so many of you so eager to assume it does? The person responsible will likely lose their license to practice as well. I think that would be appropriate. But criminal charges? Based on what?

Wisconsin has a huge antimask and Trump contingent. I think it is entirely possible she is one of them since it was intentional.

Okay, then. I didn't see that. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. It's so incredibly sad thinking about how the last four years have damaged the minds of Americans in ways I never would have believed possible.

I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I think that’s nice. I do the same. I think some of us had a bit more info. It was reported/updated on the Chicago stations since not too far away from here.

That's appalling. Don't have a vaccine if you don't 'believe in it' but to stop other people getting theirs is shocking. The irony of being an anti vaxxer and working in a capacity where you'd have access to the vials is staggering. I know some people think that the vaccines have been approved too quickly, but the mRNA vaccine science behind it has been successfully used for years for cancer treatment and has been approved by regular channels. Repeatedly. This person should have criminal charges brought against them, although it might be difficult to get a conviction. 500 medical professionals being vaccinated could save thousands of lives.

Hmm, you are probably on to the source of my confusion. Thank you. I assumed they would be using a similar sized vial because of the handling protocol, but that doesn't mean I am right. Off to go peek about. Yup, the Moderna vials have 8-10 doses. What an asshole to deliberately do that. This now has me wondering if said asshole was hoping to get them put back away before getting caught. And if so, is this putting our supply in danger if their are other rogue nurses out there. Ugh. Mean people suck. ETA gsquaredmom, Doh, I quoted my own self. ☺ You’re not the only one that went there. I have thought that someone would try this. Not stealing them but tampering with them to make them ineffective. Nothing would surprise me any more. I hope they throw the book at this person and really make an example out of them.

Why would it be difficult? She's committed a crime. Leaving aside the damage of depriving others of that vaccine, she's wilfully and deliberately destroyed the " property" of her employer ( or whoever " owns" the supply of that vaccine)

I think our local news reported it was a nurse, but I may not be remembering correctly. Whatever the case, if it is the same healthcare system, it may indicate a more systemic problem. That would concern me more. One stupid nurse or are there more? I know there are a lot of good nurses, but the pandemic has shown me that nurses can lack common sense as much as anyone. I have a few nurse friends on Facebook who are very much in the “there are worse things” camp. And several others who say things like “I have a friend who is a nurse and she says the virus is no big deal”. And of course the “nurses for Trump” yard signs.

Hmm my mind didn’t go to political intentions. I wondered if she was going to try to sell the vaccine or administer it for a fee. If it is the Moderna one she didn’t need special equipment.
I’m sure the motive will come out in the upcoming days.

I’m sure the motive will come out in the upcoming days. She didn't steal them. She took them out of the freezer then left them out past the use by time. They were the Moderna ones. This was the first report but she then confessed she did it intentionally according to a later report

I don't know if it is because it is a more conservative population or what

People who do this intentionally should be charged with attempted murder, or something those lines because that's really what they are trying to do.What the hell, omg. I agree! It should be 500 counts of attempted murder. But the person will probably just get a slap on the wrist. And make tax payers pay for the wasted vaccine. That seems to be how things work in this country. Sorry, but I needed to vent, I am so tired of the people who want covid to never end.

He is really one sick in mind individual. He was going to let all those people believe that they were protected from this virus and all along they would have been all at risk of catching it - that is surely deliberately endangering someone's life and yet they haven't charge him with that!

I see three charge descriptions... I wonder how that shakes out quantity wise? One of each per vial? Per Dose?

It will be very interesting if this asswipe also refuses to dispense birth control or the morning after pill because of being "pro-life".
