NYT (link above) - We think about 93,000 votes remain. If that's right, Ossoff would need to win about 51 percent of those votes. We think he's on track to win between 57 and >95 percent. (Our best guess is 77 right now)
Last model run: 12:12 AM ET

This is terrifying that it is even close. I felt the same way in the US presidential election, especially in my state of Arizona. I had a bit of hope that people would’ve learned from that and seen how corrupt Loeffler and Perdue (or however their names are spelled—I don’t even care) are, but alas, it’s another close election. I want to hold on to hope but these close elections make it really hard to have hope. Who votes for these corrupt inside trading racists anyway? Ugh.

Ok, I am so busy freaking out and stressing here, everyone forgive my ignorance, but if one Democrat wins then the senate is split 50/50, correct? Who then is the the person who holds Mitch’s position if that happens?
ETA. If someone had told me last year I would be this invested in an election held 3000 miles away I would have laughed so hard I would have split in two.

Who then is the the person who holds Mitch’s position if that happens? I thought BOTH had to win to get it to 50/50? I’m sure that in that case since the VP will be a Democrat and the tie breaker for the Senate, the majority leader would also be a Democrat by default.

Still awaiting some mail votes, provisional (roughly 10,000), and military (count by Friday).
Dekalb still counting votes could push Ossoff past Perdue.

It is entirely too much to hope that the Dems can both win. Thank you all for answering and not making me feel like a nitwit. This is too much stress.

Most in dem leaning counties and postal and overseas (military votes) these *should* push Ossoff over. NYT has him as the pretty likely winner.

If someone had told me last year I would be this invested in an election held 3000 miles away I would have laughed so hard I would have split in two. The Senate is currently 48 Democrat (and Independents) vs 50 Republicans. Both Democrats have to win Georgia to get a 50/50 split. Vice President Harris becomes the tie breaker, so Democrats would take control. Chuck Schumer would become the Senate majority leader and wield the power that McConnell has very effectively used to push through a conservative agenda. Democrats still have a majority in the House of Representatives (although they lost seats) and we will have a Democratic Administration. When Obama/Biden had this scenario, they reached out to Republicans and tried to work cooperatively. If Ossoff and Warnock win today, I don’t think the Dems will be playing nice this time.

I really, truly hope they don’t. I hope they take every advantage they get to push through the changes we need to see so another degenerate grifter like Trump never even makes it to the primaries again.
