Hi all, I'm still pretty new to this board but it has guided me into some really good crafty decisions that I would otherwise have not made. So, just for fun, what has been some of your biggest crafting regrets? Since I'm new to the world of photopolymer stamps and metal dies, I regret buying sets at full price only to see a great sale come up a week or so later. I am fighting impulse shopping new releases much more now after seeing how many happen during the year.

I regret some of the stamps I purchased because they were either the “in” thing or on a great sale. Fortunately it is not too many.
Oh wait an even bigger regret is all those $1 stamps from Michaels. I got rid of at least 70% last year.

I’m pretty much over it now but I regretted the one and only purge I ever did because I still look for things I got rid of.
I absolutely regret buying all the paint pens from the Dylusions line that are all garbage now. Complete waste of money. The original Dylusions paint pots were also a bad purchase. The paint is wonderful but the packaging was a poor design and they started drying up. I salvaged most of them but it was an absolutely annoying and messy half day project of pouring paint into bottles. I regret buying any sort of paint, gesso, matte medium product that comes with a screw top lid. I’m starting to regret all the ink sprays I bought (a lot!) because they are all getting clogged. I should’ve researched these products better.
Lastly I regret hoarding stuff instead of using it. Things do start to go bad and fall apart after awhile.

When I was newer to the craft, I bought one of the WRMK giant corner punch things that made the paper into doily-like papers. It was ginormous and a waste of space and money. I resold it. It taught me to think much more carefully about my craft purchases and how much use I could get out of something. Now, many years later, I tend to buy neutrals and tools, so I can make more of what I want.

I have a lot of sets that I purchased that I'm all "what was I thinking". LOL! Oh no, don't remind me of the Studio G stamps. Ugh, they were horrible. Thankfully they're all gone from my stash.

I regret spending $40 on watercolor markers that either put out too little or too much product, though it could be user error, also. It's not worth it if I have to spend hours figuring out how to use a product.

I found most of them at Ross for $9.99 though. I store them on my door, so they don't take up valuable space. I use them all of the time.

I have over purchased more than my fair share of items. I would say that I used to buy large paper pads and use a few sheets. I learned to buy what I like and not the whole pad. I like buying EP, CB, and SS because their packs are much smaller and they come with matching ephemera. I am also pretty good at purging items, so I can't remember all of my mistakes.

Ha ha, @zingermack and 950nancy! I have a couple of those big ones which I use from time to time, and co-own a set of the smaller ones but have used only the snowflake with any regularity. I don't regret buying them: they are part of my arsenal of possibilities. I regret buying die sets that have a ton of tiny pieces and no outline die to help with their placement on a layered or paper-pieced final product. I have either used the set once with great difficulty and then promptly lost one or more of the tiny essential dies, or just left the whole thing in the package and never once used it.

Buying sticker books...I don't use them at all. Not sure how to use them on my cards.
Buying ephemera packs, again I don't really use them , but I saw someone mentioned Tracie Reeds making clusters with them so I will have to find that video.
Buying a lot off cheap stamps because they were cheap!
If I really really love a stamp set I buy it now. I used to buy cheaper stamps to get the same look and I was never happy with them. Lots of times I end up buying the stamp set anyway or regret not getting it when it was available.
If I'm trying a new technique or craft, I'm buying a limited supply until I know I like it.

Washi...I forgot washi! I wish I only bought a few select rolls. I threw a bunch of it away because it went bad. And some I use for around the house. Kind of like a post-it note, but homemade with washi tape.

Not a regret really, but washi had such a short life span. I’ve used up a few rolls, but not many. Most went bad before I used much. I also overestimated how much I would actually use for scrapping. After a massive purge of washi, what I have left I actually do use; some for scrapping, some for snail mail envelope sealing, and surprisingly in my kitchen for random things I need to temporarily stick up like recipes when I’m cooking.

Lastly I regret hoarding stuff instead of using it. Things do start to go bad and fall apart after awhile. Yes to this. I hoarded a bunch of stuff and some of the kits I purchased in the past have rusted embellishments or just aren't something I will use anymore. I'm trying so hard to not hoard as much as I used to. Washi also was a huge impulse hoarding buy but now my 5 year old has helped me "use" a ton of it so at least someone is using it up!

I also regret hoarding supplies and not using them. I don’t really love them anymore and likely will not use them. I also regret buying glittery paper. I hate it. Also paper pads with all really bright, bold prints. I need the subtlety of some b side papers and neutrals.

My biggest regret is also not using supplies when they first come in the door, I have had to give away a lot of supplies from my earlier days of scrapbooking in the late 90s/early 2000s that I no longer like. I also regret buying so many collection kits when I really only like a few papers from different lines. I also have too many die cuts. WAY too many die cuts. Now that I am scrapping more and settling into my own style, I find that I don't use tons of embellishments on a page, so the stickers and die cuts go a long way

I regret buying stamps and related items such as embossing powders, every single piece of naked chipboard, fastenator, and that heat up tool that makes pockets (I can’t remember what it’s called) and might as well throw that quill accessory for the cameo. 🙄

My only real crafting regrets were purchases I made when I was in my 20s. I worked in an art supplies store, and I was so tempted to try everything. I ended up buying an air brush and a compressor, and never even used them. I eventually gave them away to an aspiring art student.

My sewing machine. I thought it was the perfect size for my type of crafting. When I bought it I thought it was inexpensive, when in reality it was cheap. It now resides in a landfill somewhere.

Plain chipboard. I have a whole drawer of it and never got the hang of putting paper on it and using it on a layout.

One woman's regret is another one's love! TOTALLY! Crafting is so huge and personal that everyone can find what works for them. The key is to do what works for each of us

My biggest regret is that I don’t have enough time to use all the stamps and dies and paper etc that I’ve accumulated.

Hands downs, the Blade Runner. Even bought the dang twice because after I got rid of the first one, I thought it was due to operator error. 2nd one proved it was junk.

Some of my purchases go WAY back, but since I spent a few hours today with some cursory organizing on my way to lofty organizational goals, I regret buying and buying and buying because things were on sale or clearance. Now that includes stores going out of business, clearance sales, yard sales, free give away tables. I have a desperate need to buy something that is cheap because I MIGHT use it.
AS a result, my stash is into at least 4 rooms of my house. I am very reluctant to get rid of anything either because if I ever need it I will be upset with myself. Now when LSS were bountiful, I sold lots of stuff at scrapbook yard sales. So much of what I might have regretted is long gone. I know back then I sold stuff I wish I had, like Disney stuff. Fortunately Disney is one of those themes I can still get.
Other than that, I had bought a used Brother Scan and Cut but I sold it pretty quickly, jars of Prima flowers I still have some of, lots of shape eyelets but I managed to pawn most of those off, I never got into stamping so I only have a few.
Lots of regrets that I spent so much money on stuff I haven't yet used with so much left.

Too many stickers, I prefer die cuts and rarely use stickers yet I was buying the stickers to go with every collection. Also I have found kits don't work for me, I am better off just picking out a few pieces I like from collections.

I sold most of my big regrets (Quickutz, other dies, large 12x12 hoard) for my last move, but I still have a box of color-sorted lumpy embellishments that I’ll never use. Ribbon and washi - too much of it but looking at it gives me joy... Making Memories paint - I owned them all and barely used them and had to trash them when they separated too much to shake together and dried shut. Foam stamps because they were cheaper than rubber but rarely used. I’ve got some border bunches and stamps I’ve only used once or twice, but I don’t regret them, yet. Ask me in a few more years.
