Brian Williams finished with a good bit.. not only is there the "big Lie" but he showed 6-8 clips of trump saying how much he (and we) support the police. in real life, he and his followers tried to kill or maim the police and succeeded.

And yet people will continue to elect these guys. That’s the real tragedy. They are constantly and consistently being fed falsehoods and lies. They are our battered spouses. How can we expect them (the electorate) to understand when Congress is leading the way? . Because they’re not battered spouses. They’re humans who should have functioning brains. I haven’t seen any who would qualify as incompetent. They’re choosing to consume the propaganda and believe it. They’re choosing to ignore reality and create their own facts. No one is forcing them to believe this craziness in any way. They are responsible for their own actions

You are fed and told so many lies you don't know where they start and stop. All your friends and family are fed these same lies. How on earth can we expect anyone to escape that? We have to start at the top and stop the lies. It's not spin anymore; it's outright lies. @freddie - yes, there are 74M battered spouses. Look at Nazi Germany. It wasn't just Germans that felt that way. Whole entire MASSIVE amounts of people can be brainwashed. If you think this past election and Jan 6 weren't proof enough, I'm not sure what would convince you.

Sure, they (the GOP) would convict them if they committed the “crime” of being a Democrat. Hasn’t MTG already drawn up articles of Impeachment against Biden for this very thing? Our founding fathers would be weeping if they were to see what the GOP is doing to their beautiful Representative Democracy.

Are they going to do anything to hold members of Congress accountable for their parts? Well those involved will surely vote to acquit, which frees them also.

These people aren’t battered spouses and I have no sympathy for them and their “beliefs.” They willingly committed criminal acts. They weren’t forced to participate in any of these acts. In the same way Charles Manson and his cult members were held responsible for their actions and the deaths they caused these individuals should be held responsible. They chose which information to ingest, they chose to follow politicians clearly out only for their own interests, they chose to believe random internet sites. It’s not like they are limited to one source of information— they voluntarily chose to limit what information they looked at. I’m not willing to let them claim lack of responsibility for their own actions.

I wish some of our Republican/Trump loving/Obama will never leave office pea friends would come here and give tell us how they would have wanted this handled if it had happened in 2016. My uncle posted a meme a few days ago that I loved...it said something like if you are wondering what should be done about Trump, ask yourself what you would have wanted done if it was Obama and do THAT.

If you think this past election and Jan 6 weren't proof enough, I'm not sure what would convince you. I think there’s a marked difference between a battered spouse who is gaslighted by an intimate partner and close family member - someone they are conditioned to trust before the gaslighting even starts - and a citizen who makes the choice to follow elected leaders and propaganda outlets with whom they have no personal relationship. The people who followed Trump and his helpers to the point of breaking into the capitol with the intention to cause harm need to be held accountable. These are not captives. They have not been misled by someone they love. They’re grown adults who chose to listen to the words of a proven liar and opportunist, and to make choices to engage in criminal action based in what they heard. The same goes for all the elected officials and media who chose to amplify Trump’s lies. All should be held accountable.

The House Managers aren't wasting any time today! I'm paraphrasing, but this is the gist of it:
They (the rioters) have said they were invited here, by the President of the United States. (and they're playing video/audio footage)
All of the other people involved in this are being held accountable; their leader must be held accountable as well.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YES! it won't matter to the reprehensible Trumplicans, and they'll still be spineless weasels and vote to acquit, but...

Here is my hope; that even if Trump is not found guilty, that people/voters will realize that he did indeed instigate this mob of animals. And that voters will understand that they need to vote, no matter what, in EVERY election. These state representatives who are trying to make voting more difficult? Many of them will be up for re-election in 2022. VOTE THEM OUT. Voting must be a priority, because we have all seen what can happen when it isn’t.

On a separate note. I wish one if them would say that after all to rioters/followers did his bidding... DT has abandoned ALL of them whether they were at the Capitol or not!!
The other thing, as often as they say they followed dt's orders, particularly the former military personnel, they are NOT to follow an illegal order!!

I have bristled whenever the battered spouse analogy started being used here (it’s been brought up in several threads and I don’t keep track of who uses it). There are lots of analogies that could come close but I wish the battered spouse analogy would end.
A person who has been beaten and lives in fear of the continued possibility of bodily harm and/or death from the person they share a home and often children with (with no foreseeable escape) is not the same as someone who has opted to follow a questionable source because the message resonates.

If you think this past election and Jan 6 weren't proof enough, I'm not sure what would convince you. You can chose to believe there are 74M brainwashed individuals, many with AR-15s. IMO these folks are not brainwashed but want to live in an America that no longer exists. These folks want the America of the 1950’s after WWII. Apparently they don’t like this America. There was a term I ran across before the 2016 election. It was a term that Republicans ran on. “San Francisco Values”. They tied it to Nancy Pelosi, and told their constituents they didn’t want to elect the Democrat because they would be like Nancy Pelosi and her San Francisco Values. I lived in San Francisco and worked there until I retired and had no idea what these terrible “San Francisco Values” were. Then I found an article that explained what they were. Liberals with San Francisco Values spend too much time working on “social issues”. San Francisco is a city with large populations of diverse people including a very robust gay community. So I think you can guess what social issues “they” were working on. And if you have any doubt about what I’m saying, look at this I found from a very recent poll.. “The level of distrust among Republicans evident in the survey was such that about eight in 10 said the current political system is "stacked against conservatives and people with traditional values." A majority agreed with the statement, "The traditional American way of life is disappearing so fast that we may have to use force to save it."
To these folks , IMO, the “Traditional America way of life” they want is to turn back the clock to the 1950’s. And in these dented little minds they refuse to see and accept the America they want no longer exists and is evolving as it has since the country was formed over 200 years ago. The America that exists today will be vastly different 40, 50, or 60 years from now as the country continues to evolve. That is not brainwashing, they are individuals choosing not to see what is before them. They are choosing to want to live in an America that doesn’t exist except in the history books and old movies. So we are going to disagree on this.

How can we expect them (the electorate) to understand when Congress is leading the way? Someone I know and love very deeply fell far down the Trump hole and became a stranger to me. I fully believe that his obsessive consumption of right wing "news", obtained primarily from YouTube and Fox, was causing him to become radicalized. That is NOTHING like being a battered spouse. I think it's a gross comparison to make. My loved one stopped consuming "news" once it was clear Trump lost. The difference in him is noticeable. It is definitely cult like, but nothing like living with an abusive spouse.

Alright GOP ladies, if we're to look at going back to the 1950's way of life, start wearing those girdles and stockings. BTW, just for giggles, yoga would likely be thought of as a portal to evil spirits (as it still is in many Evangelical circles). Want a bank account or credit card, you have to have a man to get that rolling. Birth control because you are kind of tired after popping out 4 kids? Not legalized on a wide scale until 1960 and even then, married women had a hard time gaining access to it. Also, you got 3-4 tv channels. Your phone was on a party line. No internet (remember that?). Ah, the 1950's...no thank you.
