Not legalized on a wide scale until 1960 and even then, married women had a hard time gaining access to it. My mother in law told me that she sat in her doctor's office and cried, begging him to give her a hysterectomy after she had her 6th child, and he wouldn't do it. She had had 4 kids in 5 years, plus two older children from her first marriage. She ended up pregnant again just a few weeks later, and had her 7th child, my husband 11 months after her 6th. Because women didn't have the right back then to tell their husbands no, and my fil was kind of an asshole anyway. But by all means let's go back to the good old days of the 50s. |

That's heartbreaking. My maternal grandmother has a similar story. She had 10 babies in 9 years (one set of twins and only 7 survived to adulthood) and could not get the hysterectomy she begged for because my abusive grandfather would not consent. |

freddie.. you are so right about "san francisco values".. living in this town, I hear this and think.. "are you against the values of a catholic grandma? " are you against helping the hungry, the poor the distressed?
but it is mostly code words for supporting lbgtq persons and people who do not look like you.
it always makes me mad.

More... Pence also had a 'nuclear football' with him. The Pentagon is just finding out that Pence was truly in danger. Seems they had not been told until the videos were released yesterday(or are only responding because the videos were out) The worst part is that dt knew how bad it was after inciting the mob further knowing Pence was in true danger. The 'football' is visible on the escape video by the stairs!! |

I didn’t ever watch Trump’s speeches because I value my sanity and blood pressure and pretty much only read the most horrible tweets you all posted here, so watching the trial I am just stunned at just how blatant and vile his speech was that day. It is absolutely horrifying to hear his words and see the reaction of the crowd and how he escalated his speech based on their response. It was absolutely chilling.
I honestly don’t know how the Senators who will vote against impeachment can be so devoid of morals and ethics and human decency. It just astounds and horrifies me that there are that many people elected to the senate that are so willing to lie(by denying that Trump is responsible) and put their (broken) party over country. It just amazes me that they are willing to defend Trump this way instead of trying to reclaim their party, which they have plenty of time to do.
I am disgusted by them all, and I am even more anxious that the West coast secede from the US and be annexed into Canada.
