We stocked up on our regular groceries for the week. We didn’t get anything crazy. The only thing we’re not looking forward to is the possible rolling blackouts.
PLEASE! If you MUST go out, take extra precautions, take a blanket, water...stay as safe as possible. We all know what this weather can do here.

My husband made me turn on the heater so the pipes wouldn’t burst and I think I’m going to die. I hate the heater.

I’m a nurse so I can’t stay home. However, I am currently sitting in a cozy hotel room a quarter of a mile from work rather than driving 30 miles in who knows what kind of mess tomorrow morning. I’ve worked that far from home for 25+ years and never stayed in a hotel due to weather until now. That horrific pileup a few miles from my home scared the crap out of me even though I wasn’t involved. No more driving to work in the dark on questionable roads for me.

We are prepared here in Houston. Pantry and fridge are stocked, backup batteries all charged, plants covered or moved to the garage. Only expecting up to 1/4" of ice in my area, but that can change. I keep hearing rumblings of some possible snow as well. The cold is the worst part. Looking at six nights below freezing which is just unheard of this far south. KikiPea - What did you think about JJ Watts' announcement this week?

To say the least, we are bummed, but the Texans are making really stupid decisions, so his decision to leave was probably the best for him. They are pretty much getting rid of any reason that we were fans...Hopkins, questioning keeping Watson...

That’s my husband’s route to work as well. I have a friend who works at Cooks who will be staying with her daughter for her three work days so she doesn’t have to worry about it.

Yes! I stocked the freezer and pantry mid way thru COVID, and we can rely on this. We will run out of fresh stuff, but can turn to the freezer. We have been iced in since Thursday with no end in sight for my area. Luckily we are still teleworking, so work isn’t a problem. The school district is 100% remote til this clears out.
The trees are so heavy with ice, branches are laying on my car, probably why they have not broken. Lots of branches down, up and down my street.
Stay warm and safe! Sharon

Of course they kept O'Brien way too long We're stocked. I keep a pantry and freezer full. Hoping we don't lose power but at least we can just throw our food in a cooler on the porch 😂 DHs shop has already decided to close Monday. Tuesday is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I work from home so as long as he doesn't bother me endlessly on Monday, we'll be fine

We're as ready as we can be here in Central Texas. We have plenty of groceries and brought up a lot of wood. Praying we don't lose power. We already have some ice from Thursday and who knows what is coming in the days ahead. DH brought his work stuff home so he can work from home if necessary. I am ready for it to be over and move on to warmer weather! I hate this. What's really crazy is that we have to worry about our place/RV in Port Aransas too. It's not supposed to be this cold on the Texas coast!!

Earlier in the week we stocked up on 99% of things. Today we went out and got milk, eggs and more bird food.
We don't plan to do more than bring in the newspaper each day and feed the birds 2-3 times per day (refilling the feeders). DH brought more firewood up to the back door in case we lose power, we would have the fireplace for heat and heating things.
We both received our 2nd Covid vaccine this week so are nursing sore shoulders.
Books, TV and internet...what more could we need?

I'm stocked up on food too. I'm happy to be all warm and cozy in my apartment playing with my craft/art supplies for as long as this weather lasts. If there are brown outs I will snuggle under the covers and take a nap. If the lights go out for very long I will pack up and go to my brother's house 10 minutes down the road. He has a generator big enough to run Walmart! Ya'll stay safe now!

I will take a blizzard over an ice storm any day of the year. I’ve been in an accident on the ice and won’t drive on it any more, unless I am stuck somewhere and have no choice. I hope you keep your power. Most of the power lines in my neighborhood have been moved underground over the past 10 years, so we rarely lose power these days unless a transformer blows. They were showing trees knocking out power lines in NC on the news tonight. This has been an awful storm.

We’re ready! I felt like a genius going to H‑E‑B this morning at 7, because by 10 it was trending on Twitter that every store was packed. Just got my usual weekly grocery haul, no big stock up. I planned meals this week that are mostly on the stove, because I can cook with that even if the power goes out.
We went out and wrapped most of the shrubs this afternoon. Some are too big and will just have to take their chances. Brought in the potted plants.
I am over the moon that my district actually called school off for Monday and Tuesday by yesterday afternoon. Normally they prefer to wait until 5 am the day of. At first they said we’d be teaching remotely, but as the forecast worsened and power outages became a bigger possibility, they canceled entirely. Unexpected four day weekend! (Will be less exciting if we lose power.)
The real problem we’re having right now (and this is a problem every year, but it’s not usually quite this cold) is that our bedroom still has the original single pane windows from 1955. They leak terribly and it’s about twenty degrees colder in there than in the rest of the house. I sleep in sweats and socks, under a comforter and a blanket and sheet, and last night I put on a hat! LOL They are next on our list to replace. The rest of the house has modern, double paned vinyl windows.
Stay warm everyone!

We are ready. DH and I went out and got our weekly groceries yesterday afternoon since we had a day off of school (not weather-related, just a holiday). I'm really hoping for a beautiful snow and now power outages!

We had a weather day from school on Thursday. Friday was already a student holiday. Monday is already a student-teacher holiday.
The district said if they can’t open campuses the rest of the week would be remote.
Really hoping we don’t have to take any more days off because that would shorten our spring break 😭

Although I was readying on some other ISD pages that the TEA has an issue with districts using remote learning on weather days, because of course the TEA would like to find yet another way to screw us over, but I didn’t look into all the details of that.

What? What? You were planning on going through this cold weather with no heat in the house? Do you mean a space heater and not central heat? I am confused.
When it is below freezing outside, I want my home to be warm.

We’ve been told that TEA says that remote learning days only count as half days going forward m. Which is ridiculous. But there it is. So if we had to stay remote all this coming week, we might have to go even further into June than we already are, unless TEA gives us an exception.

I hate the heater and don’t really get cold. It’s on set at 57 right now. We’ll turn it down to 55 when we go to bed. And I’ll turn the ceiling fan on high and have two floor fans pointed at me. But if I had my way, yes, I’d just leave it off and enjoy seeing how cold it will get in here 🤷🏻♀️
