Not sure where I saw something similar maybe further up on this thread. Let’s hope that they can’t really charge people 300 times more than normal that would be insane. I know energy is less in Texas but not that much less. There should be some protections for the customer especially during a national emergency on something that’s a necessity.

My Girl Scout daughter has been an absolute trooper and MAJOR helper during this debacle. I have a friend that said jokingly that he was going to audition for survivor and naked and afraid. He said after this, he felt absolutely ready.

***Second update from the west side of Ft Worth: Thankfully, I still have electricity. There have been problems at the main water treatment plant here in Ft Worth and lots of water main breaks. Because of the water treatment challenges we're under a boil water notice.
All water that is to be used for bathing, hand washing, teeth brushing, drinking, cooking, etc. must be boiled.
I have spend most of the day boiling water (must boil for 2 minutes) so I could do basic things like take a bath, wash dishes, etc. I most definitely wouldn't have made it as a pioneer.
Please understand, I'm not whining. There are still people in FW that don't have power yet. And some of those who do have power now are having to deal with pipes that have burst. This has been a long week full of inconveniences and challenges.

We had a new Aldi open this morning. We were able to get bottled water, bread, nut milk, salad and fruit. Thank goodness, because all stores around here are out of everything, or not selling perishables due to power outages. Their stuff won't last long, though! The supply chain has been broken due to the weather. My son works at a food warehouse distribution center. (They supply food to all of the local grocery stores and convenience stores.) They were without power also, so they couldn't work. He was able to work a full shift yesterday (Wednesday) and again today, so hopefully things will begin to get back to normal soon.

Friday update (SE Houston): We had a hard freeze last night, but mild compared to what we've had the past week (only mid-20s). Looks like this is the last of the pipe-busting freezes for this set of storms for us, yay! Sis is starting to recover, but it'll take a while. The main feed pipe off her well broke off (broke just off the well pipe and again after the first turn). She has to fix that before she can really tell what else needs fixed (besides the obvious exploded pipes under her kitchen sink). She's considering replacing with PEX (will depend on whether she can find any). She has to get the well going again at least to have water for her livestock. Lots of other people with burst pipes in my group of friends and coworkers, but everyone is okay.

I am on day 4 without running water. Every morning, I bring in a bucket of snow and let it melt all day. Then, at the end of the day, I use it to flush the toilet. I’ve been throwing my toilet paper in the trash. There will be significant snow melt today (yay) but I don’t know how I will flush after that. I guess I will walk up to the pool and get a bucket of water. This will be day 6 without a shower, I didn’t take a shower for a couple of days while I had water, because I was so freaking cold. I so wish I could go back in time and take a shower. The Austin water company says it will be several more days before we have water. I have one pitcher or potable water. I’m using it ONLY to brush my teeth and for my dog. I’m also out of clean clothes—especially underwear. I could have done a load of laundry while I had water, but was trying to be a team player and not use large appliances like they were begging us to do. There is no bottled water to be found anywhere. I just read a news story about 2 semis full of water heading to Austin, but it gave no details about when or where we could get some. Y’all—I’m seriously about to cry. I know people have it much worse. I really do. Doesn’t mean I can’t be a mess. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

Oldest DS lives in Pflugerville. No electricity all through this week. Finally found a motel room last night. Neighbors texted that Oncor was in the 'hood bringing power in. They went home....and an hour later the transformer blew. Have not heard if that was repaired tonight.

My sister is CEO of a credit union. Two locations. 2nd location is new, open since last summer. She has had a very wicked time with covid running through her staff and quarantine. Then the cold hits and of course the 2 locations are closed because of no power. 2nd location was closed because no power and it is in an area with boil water restrictions. This morning her employees said, "Something is wrong, we can't get the files (remotely) at that location. So, IT person heads to the #2 location. As he pulls into the parking lot he see water coming out of the eaves' vents. He opens the door and water pours out the doorway. She calls insurance company. No restoration company can come because they are wanted all over town. She pursues other help and ends up calling the contractor who built the building. He gets a plumber there within 15 minutes. 3 inches of water in the building. Plumber cuts off water at street and finds 2 leaks. Repairs,(tearing some wall out) turns water on and boom, 3 more leaks. repeats until they have repaired/found 8 leaks. Plumber says "just leave water turned off and we will do more tomorrow" Tomorrow the plan is to bring shop vacs and begin to vacuum up water. 1/2 of the building has no electricity at this point. She thinks 90 days to get building back in shape ...back to main building #1..They find no leaks, but plaster on ceiling keeps falling down on staff. Her ATM, which is in a little "shelter" east of the main building, was not working. ATM repair came and then told her, "You have been tagged" ...meaning the ATM "gangs" have spray painted her building with a code that means "You can steal this one." Twice in the past, thieves have tried to drag off the machine. So,she removed all money and shut down machine for awhile.
Yes, it was a very bad, horrible, very bad day.
