I'd love to sleep in.
Today is our 12th wedding anniversary and I think my MIL is keeping our boys for the night.
Looks like I just might get my wish! š

Very low. I treat myself to a little something nice (I got myself a temperature-controlled teapot this year; very exciting!) and DH will grill the dinner that I plan and purchase groceries for. Daughters commit to being at home and at the table for dinner.
Last year I did get a new bass (electric bass guitar), which was a much bigger purchase, but thatās unusual.
The next day is always a workday and itās not like we can set aside all the stuff we have to do to get ready for the week, so itās never been a very big deal in our house.

Alright yāall. Iām heading out to see a friend for lunch (OMG, hurray for the amazing vaccines) but my adult son (lives on the opposite coast) told me that i need to be home by 4 for a delivery. Itās being made by his dad, my ex. That in and of itself is odd. It couldnāt be done earlier in the day because I was told that the business doesnāt open until mid-afternoon. Canāt be left in the secure interior hallway outside my condo door (I could buzz ex in remotely - must be home). And apparently it couldnāt be done tomorrow. What IS it? Who wants to chime in with their ideas? Typically MD is a card (maybe) and a call or FaceTime. My first thought goes to some sort of food item. But...my son has been known to totally think outside the box. I am stuck on that and am completely stumped on other ideas! Iāll check back in from my phone to see your guesses and will update later if thereās any interest another beautiful cat!

I have learned over the years to keep my expectations low. My DH and boys just don't think to do nice things, even the little things. I have tried explaining over the years that it is important to me to have some acknowledgement, even just a card because I love cards. ( I made 25 Mother's Day cards to send to friends and family members because I know that some of them get forgotten on Mother's Day) It has never sunk in to any of them.
DS#1 got married in November to the sweetest girl. A few days ok, DH said I should be proud of him because he had made reservations for my favorite restaurant for brunch for tomorrow. I looked him in the eye and asked what my favorite restaurant was. Crickets. He had no clue. But DIL made the reservations and told him he could take credit. I told her that she is my favorite child now.
So I have no expectations for tomorrow but I am excited that I will see my whole crew for brunch!

I'd just like a phone call from each of them. Doesn't have to be a long one.
DS has already sent me a message asking if he can bring lunch over for the 2 of us. We are his bubble as he lives alone, so he can come over (big restrictions in my province). So I will see him. DD is 2 provinces away, so she'll call.
That's all good with me. I don't need or expect gifts.

They are offering a pick up the day before Motherās Day brunch for two, and that was what was delivered. Along with an invitation to join him for a Zoom ābrunchā tomorrow morning. SUPER thoughtful, and Iām looking forward to it. We havenāt zoomed or FaceTimed since the first week in January, so it'll be great to lay eyes on him and his partner. Next best thing to them actually being here in person. And... I have enough food for another brunch on Monday I tried to give a serving to my ex, but he wouldnāt take any. Canāt ask for a better āUberEatsā delivery person. Iām attaching a screenshot of their menu. Iām going to be absolutely stuffed.

Iāve become more comfortable these last few years creating a day I will enjoy instead of waiting for my family to guess. When my kids were little I was so bitter because I had unreasonable expectations. I think marketing programs is to think that all these great things will happen IF our family loves us enough. And who needs that? My family loves me but I donāt like getting flowers-after two days they start shedding and I hate that. I hate going out to eat and waiting in lines. My family makes me my cards and with current greeting card prices, I think I need to do the same.
Tomorrow weāll have ribs and my birthday cake. My birthday is Wednesday but we leave Friday for vacation so Iām making it early so we can eat it all. I make cakes because they taste so much better than store bought.

None. Dh always works. It's schoolwork day and chores. No fun until school is out! I was hoping to go out to eat with my son and buy us tennis rackets, but work comes first because I don't have the energy to help during the school week. It'll be a great relief the closer he gets to being done! That's my gift.

Only expectation is that my kids get along and that they (and DH) pitch in around the house to give me a day off from the housework!
When it's warm on Mothers day, I usually ask for help with yard work, setting up the front porch or the back patio, but it's only going to be in the 40's tomorrow (usually in the 70's here by now).

I never expect anything that I havenāt planned.
Tomorrow we are going out to brunch because I made reservations a month ago.
I bought myself flowers at TJs on Friday in the pinks, purples and whites that I love.
Dh surprised me today with the fixings for mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice for tomorrow.
Today ds1 and I went boating with our neighbor and his son. Any weekend that involves time on the water is heaven for me.

I don't have a ton of it either but it's been a fun way to get into crypto. Last night I was up to about $200 profit but I'm at about $100 right now. I got into the game later than I should have, I thought it was dumb. I was up $300 on my other crypto, saw it drop, sold for $180 profit, waited till it dropped further and bought it again. Right now I'm down $80 on that one but I have faith. I'm not much of a gambler but this is kind of fun. All those young kids at work have me trading and learning. š

I have learned to expect nothing.
This year, it can pass by without notice. My dear MIL was my Mom for 27 years. We lost her too soon due to an accident last month. We are all vaccinated and Motherās Day was to be the first time we could gather since COVID.

I just has the MOST fantastic day. My kids - throughout the world - all zoomed in and we talked and played games. It was MAGICAL. I had the best time. I was so happy that they all were "with" me. I am super lucky.

My youngest is off to work, he's buying lunch either in his day off this week.
My eldest came down and we tried the Mexican restaurant in town I hadn't sampled yet. Oh, my. So good. I'm not sure it's a good thing to know being so close, tempting and all. I see it more often in my future.
We saw 20 tacos for $35 on their sign inside. Were thinking Christmas eve when we get together with their cousins, eat simple, appetizers etc. So we must have enjoyed if we're already planning "more". š¤£
Happy mother's day and all weekend to you all.

This evening, my Dh let me loose to go fishing at the local Costco pond with my friend for 90 minutes. I managed a nice bass and 4 bluegills - all catch and release, of course!

Turns out my motherās day started with the kitchen faucet leaking badly under the sink. I had planned to replace it anyway so made a quick trip to Loweās for a new one. Thank goodness for a handy husband who installed it with no problems.
While at Loweās, I bought blueberry bushes. The youngest son dug my holes and we got those planted. He brought me a hilarious card and fresh picked strawberries from his weekend with his girlfriend.
I got calls, FaceTimes, and texts from my other sons & DILs along with random other people. And FaceTiming with my precious grandson.
And, just saying... I am ridiculously excited about the new faucet. It wasnāt the planned part of Motherās Day, but might just be my favorite!
