knutschen I am so glad your dog came through the surgery so well. What a relief! And congrat on the new car! And just when things are opening up that you can maybe GO somewhere again! Speaking about being on the go, nylene, I missed the post about your being in California and doing book binding. Will that all be done at the same time, or are they two different activities planned? Love in the Gallery for maribeth and nylene. Dd & family left a couple of hours ago. It was a busy weekend. We put out the bedding plants (cabbages, tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, cellery), put cucumber and pumpkin and zucchini and bean seeds in the ground. Dh almost finished the step to the garden shed (the old one had broken) and the "kids" cleaned up a bunch of branches from his tree trimming this spring. We celebrated Alberta's opening up the number of people allowed for outdoor gatherings to ten by inviting dh's sister and nephew and wife for a roast beef supper on the deck on Saturday. Tried a new recipe for slow roasting in my portable roaster, so all cooking could be done outside. My personal battery power is below the red flashing line, I think. I actually lay down for about 45 minutes before I could even put together a simple supper for dh & me of LEFTOVERS . Hoping to get a good sleep tonight. Dh is planning to meet up with one of his friends tomorrow morning, so if I have the house to myself I may actually play with paper! Need to make some Fathers Day cards and a birthday card. I was registered for Maker Mania 3 this weekend, have the supplies provided, but with company on the yard, I had no time to participate. Hoping to look at the PDF's more carefully in the next few days and try some of the techniques.

Good morning Pokeys! I hope you all had a nice weekend. Mine was pretty mellow. It was beautiful out, so we spent plenty of time outside tidying up the yard, having dinner on the deck, etc. We also went to the outlet mall and did a little shopping, dh finally agreed to let me buy him some new summer clothes. He lost about 30 pounds over the past couple of years, but had kept wearing the same clothes...so he desperately needed ones that fit. I bought him some fun shorts with lobsters, tropical shirts, etc. Thankfully, he is a good sport about me buying him kind of bright, fun stuff. He pretty much wears whatever I buy. Our state dropped the mask mandate this weekend, so it felt really odd to be out and see people without masks at the mall.
Knutschen - I'm so glad that your dog came through surgery well. I hope the recovery goes smoothly.
Gramadee - It sounds like you had a productive, fun weekend with the kids. You got a ton done!
Well, I need to get moving, my first meeting of the day is in an hour and I haven't gotten ready yet. Hope you all have a good one!

knutschen, I am so glad your Phoebe did well through the surgery. I hope she heals quickly. What fun to have a brand new car. I hope you can take it on an outing now that things are opening up. I hope you will be able to use some of your time off to do scrappy things. Didn't you have a garage door that needed repair? How did that come out? It's always so nice to see your happy face pop up on the thread. shinyhappytina , your shopping trip sounds like fun. I really need to buy some new summer clothes for myself. I have lived in Cousin Camp t-shirts for the last months of Pandemic. It's time for something else! How is your work going now that things are more open? Does that make a difference in where you work? grammadee , your weekend sounds marvelous and very exhaustive! I'm afraid if I had the house alone after the weekend you have had, I'd be tempted to just take a nap! We are going to CA to visit our Calif kids and while we are there Sam wants to learn to bind a book. My neighbor teaches a college class in bookbinding and donated her time and talents to a Youth Auction. My friend bid on it and won, but they invited me to come learn too. That was several years ago and I had only made one since. So I spent the weekend making several kinds so I will be able to teach Sam and Anj. While I am there gramma and I have made arrangements to meet and have lunch together. Such fun to see my family and meet gramma all in the same trip. My DD will be baby-sitting Little Eddie on Wed, so if DH's Derm. appt doesn't go too long, we plan to take a little trip over to get some baby hugging in. I'm glad they don't live that far away. It's about a 30 min. drive. Have a great week, everyone.

nylene - baby snuggles sound good! They only smell like new baby for a short while and you need to get your fill! grammadee - sounds like an intense weekend! How you guys manage to fit work into your play hours astounds me. My family would think I was crazy if I suggested any gardening or yard work into a weekend visit! I trimmed the suckers off my smoke bush last week, and left the pile on the grass, asking DH and DS to pick them up next time they mowed. My DS mowed AROUND them. And DH chewed him out for that. And yet 2 days later they are STILL THERE! knutschen - yay for time off! We need a new vehicle too but pickings are slim right now so we haven't gone shopping. It's a problem, because we need a bigger vehicle to go camping in 2 months... I'm so glad Phoebe did well. shinyhappytina - my DH too is happy if I do his clothes shopping. Both my boys also prefer me to shop for them! They both ask for clothes for their birthday/christmas presents because then they know it's taken care of. I have created a serious dependency issue. OTOH, my DD shops for me I have 1 day off tomorrow (was supposed to be off today but staffing was inadequate) and after a long stretch of sunny hot weather, tomorrow is supposed to be HOT, MUGGY and POURING. Sigh. I guess I'll be forced to scrapbook

Congrats on the new vehicle knutschen. My Jeep is the first new one I ever bought and I still have one year of payments left! grammadee somehow I missed the news about your dgd and your grand dog. I'm sorry for your family's loss and sending prayers for your granddaughter. I took part in Maker Mania this weekend. A bunch of LSS all over North America and even 1 in the UK work together to put together a kit that each store sells. Then over three days each store shows off 2-4 projects they've made with the kit and posts directions. I watched a lot of videos this weekend! Now I have to decide which projects I want to try because the kit is definitely not big enough to do all of them. We got a Graphic 45 collection, a floral die set, a stamp set, an embossing folder, some gilding flakes, and some luster wax. The variety of projects is amazing. We ate at a restaurant with DH's parents and brother for the first time in forever. Our province raised the number of people allowed to sit together from 4 to 6, so we headed out as quick as we could. I was working from home for the last two weeks, but I'll be back in the building for the last three weeks of the school year. I won't have students in person, though. I'm hoping next school year will be back to normal. My yoga studio reopened today, but there aren't any early morning classes and my yoga buddy is dealing with health issues so I have to work up the gumption to go on my own. I hope you are have a great Monday to start your week!

Happy Monday! Hope you all are doing well today. I had a Zoom playdate with my cousins yesterday. I taught them art journaling and we had fun. I did two art journaling videos for them that I will share with you all, too. knutschen- Glad your fur baby is well and I know you feel relieved, too. Great news on the new car. I had a jeep in the past and it was one of my favorite cards. Also, congrats on three weeks of vacay! You nurses totally deserve it! Plus, all medical pros should get a raise and public recognition for all the people you helped during the pandemic!!! grammadee- What a fun time you had. I am glad you were able to spend time with family. I hope we can see our folks soon. Enjoy resting and recovering from all the excitement. nylene- Oh you are coming to CA! I am so happy you get to see your family. I know you and gramma will have fun, too. I want to see your book binding when you have something to share. Sounds fun! justjac- Yeah, you area is opening up, too! I hope you can find someone to go with you to yoga. Or maybe you will go and make a new friend. If I lived up there I would go with ya! The yoga I do at night is getting boring! LOL! Waving hi to you all and have a good rest of your day!

justjac - I think that might overwhelm me, having to decide which project to try. I love to watch and learn and then never put into practice. HOWEVER, you did inspire me to try a box card! It was a learning process. You certainly need a lot of bits and pieces to make it look good. I used die cutting, stamping, embossing, edging, fussy cutting, layering, inking, stenciling - it's all here I think next time I'll chose a stamp set like you used, enjoy the process of stamping/colouring the set, and then make a card around them. This started as a "oops, have to make a card for tomorrow" so I was less prepared Also - once you dig into it, can you share your impression of the lustre wax? I've been tempted by the gold, but I'd love a review! Would you use it on edges? Or just on embossed surfaces? box birthday card 18 by kirstendrew, on Flickr

Wow, kitbop and justjac, you two have some amazing origami skills. Is there a tutorial on how to make that box card? I love all the little bits and pieces you used. Perfect B-day card. kellyr21, we are going to be in Northern CA. Wish we were down near you. We haven't seen Anj and the kids since Dec of 2019. I just got new photos and can't believe how much they have grown. Time with gramma will be so fun. I love her sense of humor! I will post a photo of the book I made. I can see things I want to change, but it will be a great little journal. How wonderful that you could share your art with your cousins. I'm sure that helped to lighten the burden of grief and give you an opportunity to share good memories. Linda, how are you doing this month? I miss seeing your layouts popping up in the Share thread. They always give me new ideas. We have had our car in the shop since Friday and today I need to run errands. Be back later.

How is everyone this Thursday morning? nylene, you will have such a wonderful time in California with family. And the bonus of an IRL visit with gramma is icing on the cake. Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures! After this past year of isolation it will feel wonderful to just be there. Will there be a live Cousin Camp this summer? shinyhappytina, I look forward to seeing a page about the new clothes! Will you continue to wear masks when out in public when the mandate ends? At first it seemed strange being in a store at all. Now we are used to that with masks on. And the rules are changing again. And your hubby sounds like a good sport. Dh would not be happy with a wardrobe like that. I was hoping there would be an in person high school grad this year so I could talk him into getting a new suit. After losing so much weight, he is swimming in his. Linda, the time and energy and creativity needed to scrap ebb and flow for all of us. I am sure you will be turning out a crazy number of pages again soon. Is dd finished her home schooling for this year? Do you know if the girls will be in class in person in the fall? If so, think about all those hours you will have in that craftroom! So cool that you could share your artistic skills and techniques with your cousins on Zoom, kellyr21! Do they live close to you? Would you be able to get together at some point for an in-person play date? Hoping you are getting close to some well deserved time off, kitbop. How is your garden doing? Our plants seem quite happy this year, but the summer is early. It rained most of the night, and we are expecting some warm temps over the next week, so I am thinking the last of the seeds and the bedding plants we put out there will really jump ahead after that. Of course, they WON'T be ahead of the pesky weeds, so as soon as it is dry enough I will need to get out there with a hoe. One of these years, I will just learn how to cook and eat thistles and pigweed, and then our problems will be solved. How is your yoga buddy doing, justjac? Recovering steadily, I hope. Going out to eat in a restaurant with family sounds heavenly. We celebrated the province opening up to gatherings of ten outside by having a few people over on the deck for supper on Saturday. Our nephew kept saying, "This is nice." And he is not a guy who expresses positive reviews of anything LOL. I am working on the first pages of the month. Have printed pic's of ds's family pet and am putting together a spread with Simple Stories "Heart" supplies. Slow going. Started yesterday. Don't know if it's the subject matter and I want so badly to make it special but not over-the-top, or just that I haven't constructed a page for ten days. Started out with Saturday's sketch, but it won't look much like it when I am done. Oh, and I have an appointment for a hair cut and colour this afternoon! Gotta get moving...

Well ladies, I made it to yoga Tuesday. It was a warm class, but we had to wear masks, which made it hot for me! I won't be trying hot classes until the mask mandates are done. The teacher took it pretty easy on us which was perfect for me. I am debating going Saturday at 9:15. I have two different online scrappy things that start at 10! I think I will still go and just join in late. grammadee unfortunately while my friend was in the hospital for covid some irregularities turned up in her blood work so they did further testing. She was home for about a week when she found out she has leukemia. She is back in the hospital for a month of chemo. So far she's doing pretty well according to the texts we're exchanging. This might be TMI if medical testing makes you queasy. I have my mammogram this afternoon. I'm trying to be better about all the preventative testing. I'm also on the list for a colonoscopy because my dad had colon cancer. I'm waiting to deal with the pap test until I'm seeing my doctor in person (which I still haven't done; only telephone appointments.) I did get my blood work done and everything checked out fine. Trying to be healthy requires a lot of maintenance!

PLus it looks like DS might be home on leave soon so I'm trying to prepare for that (fingers crossed - leave request is still in processing and hasn't been approved yet). But yes - DD14 gets her second shot TODAY and will be headed back to public school in August. DD21 moves out in December-ish (exact timing will depend on DS's leave schedule then) so hopefully I'll have plenty of crafty time then

Linda, so many changes happening with your family in the near future. I hope DS is able to get leave and enjoy the family. Is your DD moving away for school/work? You will miss having her around. We will expect lots of great layouts when you are no longer doing homeschool. I hope your summer goes well and that you you can enjoy all the family around. justjac, I am so proud of your yoga commitment. As for all the medical tests, best wishes for great results. You are right that it takes a lot of upkeep to stay healthy. I am so sad for your friend coming out of Covid to have leukemia. Thoughts and prayers for her. Do you have any plans to travel when the restrictions lift a little more? Do you do any teaching of summer school? grammadee, your sweet DGD is in my prayers for a successful surgery and a finding of benign. Please keep us informed as it gets closer. Today I decided I had to get some summer shirts and not live in my Cousin Camp t-shirts. I looked last week and got discouraged. But today I picked up my new glasses near the mall in a neighboring town, so stopped in to take a look. I was very pleased that I found several that will be comfy for summer. We don't have a J C Penney here, but there is one in that mall. I thought about kellyr21 as I went in because I know you find great clothes there. I have a bunch more cards to post and a page needing to be put together. I need to make more Get Well cards. Unfortunately DH's brother has been put on hospice. He is newly home from ICU with around-the-clock care. Also Doug (my computer guru DSIL) has left for MI to see his father. They have just put him on hospice also. I think it's this time of life, when we are losing so many family members and friends as we all age. I understand that it's the circle of life, but it's hard. BBL

She was home for about a week when she found out she has leukemia. She is back in the hospital for a month of chemo. So far she's doing pretty well according to the texts we're exchanging. Oh no! I guess it is a blessing in a way that she was admitted for treatment for Covid so that they detected the leukemia earlier than they might have. But still this is a shock. Sounds like they are treating this aggressively: here is hoping that the treatment is successful.
I hope all your tests are positively NEGATIVE! Congrats on getting this maintenance done.

I think it's this time of life, when we are losing so many family members and friends as we all age. I'm pretty sure there have been a lot more deaths in 2020 and 2021 than normal. The stress of the pandemic, whether that be isolation, inactivity, loss of income, family stress...there are just too many impacts to list...and I'm sure we have lost a lot of people because of it. Is this the brother in law you recently went to have a visit with nylene? I'm so sorry. And on the flip side, have a WONDERFUL trip! I envy you; I'm having serious "I wanna go somewhere" twitches. justjac - so glad your friend's leukemia got found earlier than later! What a story... grammadee - after a week of incredible heat and humidity (over 100 degrees, and not weeding weather!) and then 2 big rain storms to finish it off, my weeds are thriving like yours... this weekend = garden!

I am debating going Saturday at 9:15. I have two different online scrappy things that start at 10! I think I will still go and just join in late. Is one of them the ScrapHappy LOAD wind up? I thought she was going to do this last weekend, but there was some chat there that Alice had been MIA for a week or so at the beginning of the month. Probably needed a break after hosting LOAD.
my weeds are thriving like yours... this weekend = garden! 2 1/2 inches of rain since Wednesday evening. Don't think I can even walk on our garden for a few days. Hoping not until Monday, but by then the weeds might be over my head LOL. Supposed to be hot on Tuesday, so I will have one day when the roots come easily out of the ground and leave the plants undisturbed before the surface bakes and it will be like jackhammering cement.
Did some final tweaks on my LO last night. Think the sun is coming out so I can take a pic this morning. Started playing with some of the Maker Mania supplies. Might try putting together a card or two. I need 5 birthday and 2 anniversary cards for July.

nylene I don’t teach in the summer. I am planning to visit my mom for at least a week plus my brother and my sister for an extended weekend each. That’s it so far. We’re hoping DH is back to work and won’t be free to travel much. grammadee one of my scrappy things is Scrapbook Live with Scrap Happy. I don’t think she’s doing the LOAD wrap up until June 30. My mammogram went fine. My appointment was on time and quick. I have a telephone appointment about my colonoscopy on July 20. I did sign up for Saturday morning yoga. I need to work on improving my range of motion. Our home renos have ground to a halt as we work on decluttering and emptying our office/library. You can’t paint or replace flooring until the room is empty.

We did have fun last weekend playing with paint and we will get together again, soon. grammadee , they live on the East Coast so it will be a while before we can visit in person. I went there last Friday and found some nice workout leggings and a top on clearance! So I was happy! Are you all doing "Cousin's Camp" in person this Summer? justjac - I am glad you made it to the yoga class. Hot yoga is definitely a thumbs down for me especially with a mask! LOL! kellyr21 - your art journal background is simply stunning! Can't wait to watch how you did it. 2 1/2 inches of rain since Wednesday evening. 2 1/2 inches of rain since Wednesday evening. We had a rainstorm Thursday - one of those deluges that is a solid wall of water, and has everyone (including my DH) huddled inside the store hoping it will abate so they can run to their car. He had to take off his clothes in the front hall he was dripping so much... I could have just put him in a swimming pool and he'd have been less wet! Afterwards, we took the doggos for a walk. Forgot that there is a "gulley" my off-leash dog likes to chase rabbits through. The gulley was a 3' deep lake. And my dog doesn't mind water. She too got a good towelling off in the front hall afterwards! This morning, I went out to pull some weeds, and discovered an open plastic tote we had left in the backyard from moving my Dad. The huge rubbermaid ones. It has - no kidding - 2 feet of water filling it - and I can't budge it! I'm gonna have to bail!

Wow, I can't believe both grammadee and kitbop are getting so much rain! We are so short of water that the Governor went on TV and asked the citizens to fast and pray for rain. We just didn't have the usual amount of snow and it has all melted off the mountains and the reservoirs are not full. It will be a dry summer for all our plants and gardens. Water rationing has already started. kitbop , I love your new avatar. It looks just like you! kellyr21 , I just watched your videos. I think that art journaling looks like fun. I wonder if I could loosen up enough to do it and enjoy it. You know me, I can't even tilt a photo! I'm sure a little art journaling messiness would do me good. Thanks for doing those for your cousins and sharing them with us. MARIBETHR , I haven't seen you popping in for a few days. I assume you are busy at work. I hope you are getting a little scrapping in. Are you working on challenges? justjac , I'm glad your mammo came out fine. I hope the rest of your maintenance tests do also. Your trip to be with your mother and your siblings sounds wonderful. It has been so long since we have all been able to enjoy family. grammadee , it's nice to see you scrapping. I get nervous if I don't see some pages from you every couple of days. I hope you can soon get to your garden and don't have to swim or wade to it. Do you think you could push a little of that moisture just a couple of states south of you? Today my DDs and I went to SLC to my sister's home for a baby shower for my niece. All 3 of my sisters came and a lot of their daughters and some children. The young kids played in the backyard and all us "older" folks got to visit and enjoy being together. It was supposed to be a "come and go" for 2 hours, but as more family arrived everyone stayed and stayed. No one wanted to leave. I was able to give out invitations to our big family reunion in Idaho in August. I am in charge this year and it saved me a bunch of mailing and emailing. I didn't realize how much I missed my extended family this year. Well, back to the laundry!

wow - so much rain kitbop and grammadee - we've had lots of rainy days lately but more on and off rain except for today when we drove into the city and the skies opened up on the interstate - close to zero visibility and we were creeping along at 5mph. nylene - how wonderful to get together with family. I'm hoping my sister will come this way later in the summer (her ILs live south of us so if they visit them, we might get a visit too). I would love to see my older sister again one day also - it's been 31 years but she's overseas. No big family reunions for us - there just aren't that many of us anymore. kellyr21 - that's beautiful! love the colours Hi to everyone. Glad you had a relaxing and productive few days away from work hassles. nylene I am so excited for you to be packing to go on a trip to see your family and meet up with gramma. You are going to have a wonderful time. Can't wait to hear all about it and see the pages. After not doing many pages this month, I completed five this past weekend. Spent most of Saturday stamping, embossing, diecutting and finding the elements I needed. This first LO is in reponse to Shimelle's latest class. Of course it looks nothing like hers, but I started there... Gardening Round # 2 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr This was the LO that needed the prep work. Since it is about picking up the Maker Mania 3 kits with justjac, I wanted to use the supplies in the kit to build the pages. Had fun with the floral dies and 3-D folder with pp and white cs which I had inked. Used alot of the lustre wax. And cut up some of the pretty G45 papers. I swear it looks alot brighter IRL, but I think the camera may have caught the shine from those foiled flowers. Ready for Maker Mania by Gramma Dee, on Flickr And just before I began to actually assemble those two LO's, I grabbed some strips that were left over from card making and last month's pages and put together a quick page to front my 2021 summer album: Hello summer 2021 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

Morning Pokeys.
We're trying to quickly pack up for a few days of camping - DH and I decided to take off on the kids (DD is not happy about this) and try a new Park about 3 hours from home. We are tenting however so no scrapbook supplies coming with me.
I'm feeling super sad this morning. A work friend who I've known for 20 years, a truly excellent amazing compassionate brilliant lady, 3 kids all the same ages as mine, even went back to school and did her masters in education just a few years ago so that she can part time nurse, part time teach at the college. I honestly would have been friends with her outside work if we didn't see each other so much at work. She went to the cottage... ?got sick... ?had a stroke... anyways, went to the hospital and has stage IV cancer everywhere, has had 2 strokes and is expected to pass away in the next day. I'm in denial. I just can't process not ever getting to talk to Donna again. Or why her. She did so much good everywhere she went, the Earth really needed her.
Life feels so scary and sad sometimes.

So sad to hear about your friend, kitbop . (((((HUGS))))) to you, her family, and all the people she has touched. Hoping you and dh have a relaxing rejuvenating time camping. I think it is sweet that your dd is not happy that you are a)leaving her at home & b) going camping without her. I will not be going anywhere today. For a couple of weeks, dh has been expecting a contractor to come, dig up a part of our lane, and put in a "Texas gate" over a culvert in a waterway. Yesterday the guy dropped off a big machine, so dh is hopeful it will happen today. (I am not so sure: ten days ago they dropped off the machine only to pick it up a couple of days later for a different job) I am just hoping that once they start the job that it will be finished in one day and that I can drive off the property again. I could go across this morning and leave my vehicle in the field by the road, but with that reasoning, my vehicle would have been parked out there for ten days already and still nothing done to our lane...
Spent most of yesterday in the garden with a hoe. Still have a few rows to finish, but waiting to see if the thunder I hear is for a shower "just passing through".

MARIBETHR - scrapbooking while camping - how fun! grammadee - I LOVE your layouts - always so colourful and fun. Good luck with the construction project. Our garage project has been moving at glacial speed. kitbop - I'm so sorry for your loss. (((Hugs))) and prayers. Have a wonderful camping trip I have another kitty story. Short version we're fostering a kitten (I suspect it might be here to stay). Long version. Yesterday morning a kitten was found meowing in the grille of a pickup truck at DH's work parking lot. It was brought inside, fed, and passed around the office. One of DH's coworkers took it home to see if it would be okay with her cat. DH got a phone call at dinner - the kitten and cat did NOT get along and their dog needed to go to the afterhours vet (the final visit), would we take teh kitten at least overnight. So we drove out there to get the kitten and help them get the dog (big black lab who could no longer walk) into the truck. Kitten has been hanging out in our bedroom ever since. He's very small, I'm estimating 6 weeks, and very cute. He did NOT sleep through the night - he was up at 4am peep peep peeping until I finally popped him on my chest and he fell back asleep (but I didn't - yawn - I'm not a back sleeper). I think he's going to be called Steel Dust - "Dusty" for short - as DH works for a steel manufacturer. DD14 is trying to talk us into "Beskar" but I don't think so. Vet visit tomorrow morning.
