I used to LOVE Barq’s but it has a ton of caffeine so I quit drinking anything caffeinated decades ago. Every once in a great while I’ll have a root beer at Culver’s. It’s called pop around here. But most of the time I just drink plain water or flavored sparkling water. I find the fizz really feels more refreshing when it’s crazy hot outside. We don’t use and none of our friends do either so pot/mj/weed doesn’t come up in conversation very often. About a month ago the neighbor’s nephew was at the lake cabin. DH let the dogs out before bed and saw the nephew and his wife sitting by the fire pit. He came in and said, “Smells like someone’s smokin’ something funky next door,” LOL.

I did not think any root beer had caffeine, but I googled to double check and Barq's absolutely does! We usually have A&W or IBC. Not sure we have ever had Barq's

I probably drank 3-4 cans a day and realized how crabby I would get if I didn’t have any. I quit cold turkey and had a raging headache for at least a solid week when I did. Culver’s, A&W and Mug doesn’t.

If I was going to have a “soda”, it was Diet Coke. It’s been at least 12 years since I’ve had one. I got the stomach flu one year and couldn’t drink anything other than water since I’d just bring back up and soda hurt. Lol I had the very worst headache of my life due to lack of caffeine and decided I never wanted to do that again, so I quit any caffeinated drinks. I started drinking Diet A&W root beer. In 2012 I had enough of being overweight and quit all soda. Now I just drink water straight from the tap. Bottled water makes my stomach upset for some reason.
As for MJ, I’ve always called it “weed”. I’m from Southern CA. My dh and his friends call it Pot. They are from MO.

Favorite pop, which I try to drink very little of, would be a tie between Dr. Pepper and Root Beer, specifically A&W root beer.

I rarely drink fizzy drinks. My favourite is sarsaparilla which wasn't on the list, so I chose the closest one there which is root beer. I've only tried root beer once, at an American BBQ restaurant. I prefer the stronger flavour of sarsaparilla. And it's got to be Saxbys! I just ordered a box of 24 bottles from Amazon, which should last me a while.
I just googled the difference between root beer and sarsaparilla:
"Sarsaparilla root is an ingredient used in both a root beer and sarsaparilla beverage. The difference is that the sarsaparilla drink only contains one flavouring ingredient – the sarsaparilla itself. A root beer is more of an adulterated version of the sarsaparilla root beer."

I have maybe 3 Dr. Peppers a year but I usually drink unsweetened ice tea every day all year around. And it is referred to as grass by most that I know.

We don't drink soda too much either because we prefer water, but root beer has been my favorite soda for as long as I can remember. Luckily DH likes it too. Recently we discovered A&W Root Beer restaurant makes their soda fresh daily with real cane sugar instead of from a bagged pre-mix so we ate there for the first time. It's delicious! Well, the soda is.

I do not like or drink any carbonated drinks. I call them sodas. If I HAD to drink one for lack of anything else it would be a diet cola most likely. But ugh.

Interesting anecdote: in Utah, Barq’s is caffeine-free.

We call it all coke n then the server says what kind and I say Dr Pepper... Just curious, if I said I wanted a “Diet Coke”, would they ask me what kind, as in what kind of diet drink and I would have to say “Diet Coke” again?

I’m with you, and ice water is 99% of what I drink. But for sodas, I prefer Dr. Pepper most days with root beer a not so distant 2nd. Do you have a BJ’s near you? They have an in-house root beer that is excellent. OH are you kidding?! Yes we have a BJs in town and I never knew about the root beer! Now I'm excited to try it, thanks! I didn't know this either. For sure checking that out.

I don’t drink any of the ones on your list. I drink sugar-free Irn Bru (pronounced iron brew) otherwise known as Scotland's other National drink. I don’t know if it’s still the case, but for many years Irn Bru was the only indigenous carbonated drink in the world that outsold Coke in its home country. It tastes like no other drink, and is an excellent cure for hangovers. 😊 Last time we were in England with Ds I made us try Irn Bru because the commercials are so awesome. I took the first sip, and it came right back out. Dh and Ds laughed. Dh had the next sip, the look on his face caused Ds to slip out his phone for a picture. Ds couldn't get past the smell and didn't end up trying it. We decided it must be an acquired taste. 😁

Not really with diet coke because it is usually the only diet offered... if they have pepsi products... you would say diet and they say diet pepsi or diet dr pepper depending on which they serve... I promise its a thing in west texas

I'm a weirdo, I don't like carbonated beverages. Neither does our grandson. I love, love, love fountain Coke. I keep it to one per month, or less, because of all the sugar. McD's frozen Coke is yummy! I also like Seagram's ginger ale once in a while. We call it pop here.

I'm a weirdo, I don't like carbonated beverages. Thank you for "confessing"! I thought I was the only one. I quite like the cinnamon flavour of full-fat Coke but not the fizz. I have shaken fizzy drinks until the fizz was gone before drinking them before. And in my bit of the UK we call them fizzy drinks. Not pop, not soda. The other stuff I just call "illegals".

Mostly I drink water, coffee, tea/iced tea (unsweetened), wine, beer or other cocktails now and then. After giving up sugar, all sodas and sweetened drinks taste overly sweet to me, and I despise diet drinks - my system cannot take any of the artificial sweeteners. This is almost the same for me. What stuck out is a true aversion to artificial sweeteners.

Mine is Kevita. Boyfriend just bought some Zevia Root Beer today. I might have a taste but I’m not a soda drinker. I usually just drink water or coconut water. But when I was a kid my favorite soda was Root Beer. Root Beer Floats! ☺️

So what's your hot summer day favorite bubbly refresher? and..is it Pop or soda or something else to you? I am not a soda drinker at all, I almost always just drink water. Lately though I've been on a Root Beer kick. Its so delicious and for whatever reason it doesn't burn my throat or my nose like the colas to. What's your favorite? I tagged all those I can think of. Seeing the other thread where we are all calling Mary jane by different names got me thinking about the soda vs pop debate. And, actually, what do you call the herbal green refreshment? In my world its weed. My favorite is a Roy Rogers but I love you for listing Cactus Cooler. Such a drink of my California childhood!

I have heard term root beer, mostly in movies but I've never tasted one.
Generally, I only drink tea, the hot variety, and water. I don't like fizzy drinks.
The unusual varieties over here are Irn Bru which I have seen described as a cross between rust and bubblegum and another called Dandelion and Burdock.

The only fizzy drink I like is Ramune but it's really difficult to get hold of now. Growing up I loved Dandelion and Burdock but it doesn't taste the same anymore. Coke is revolting to me.
